So I ended up catching up with the story
I am really enjoying her relationship with Hagrid, it's both adorable and easily my favorite part of the fic. The whole care of magical creatures focus is pretty interesting and unique. Harry's reluctance to use animal products in potion's is interesting, and does fit with someone whose only friends are animal's. Though I dislike how simply it was resolved, while I have no problem with the idea of potion's being to be modified to to no longer require animal products, but a first year student with less than a month of potions experience under her belt being able to do so is jarring. Though I am curious if she's going to go full-blown Vegan!Harry which is something I have never actually seen before.

I feel like her true name should have already come out by now. I mean the original impetus for the change to Riddle came from her getting harassed in her compartment on the Hogwarts express. Did those boy's completely forgot that the Girl-Who-Lived was on the train, and never questioned about the identical copy of her with a different surname?

I am having mixed feelings about the relationship with Quirrel. On the one hand he's shown to be charismatic and manipulative, a depiction that is all to rare in this fandom. But then he tells her he's a parselmouth on their first meeting and she never questions him about it or tells anyone. She already knows that it has a dark reputation and she learned from Padma that it's a family trait. On the whole it feels like a stupid decision from a character that won't have any consequences because of plot convenience.

On the whole I'm really enjoying this fic I am really interested to see what the author does with the with the various plot threads she has going on. Especially the Nagini subplot which the fic seems to have been building towards the whole time.

I would currently rate it at 3.5/4 with the potential to go up or down depending on how the author handle's certain things. This fic is also on Spacebattles, if your in to that sort of thing.

I enjoy fem!Harry but hated Parselbrat, from the fact that she's still called "Harry" to her annoying social dysfunctions that actually make it vaguely satisfying to see bad things happen to her.

I've always hated the "Just Harry" trope and Parselbrat has amped it up to 11.

I have been completely engrossed by this, even without reading the prequel story, however I'm going to pause this one and go to it soon It's driving me crazy how I don't know the details of Draco Malfoy's coup and fallout - that we're only really dealing with now, but I don't know. I'm not entirely sure I want to ruin this tale by learning backstory. I'm having a tough time explaining why I think it's so good. I really love that Harry is a true leader, competent yet not omnipotent. The Dumbledorean vibes are strong (they have to be, the story wacks you a few times with it), not with his sheer power or wisdom, but with the incredible sense of leadership you get - the fact that it is essentially Headmaster Potter, is another trope I dig. This fic captures a tone of the mystery elements of the first few books very well.

    The mystery is pretty great
As of now I still don't have any idea whether Ginny is a prisoner or a willing participant in the Masters of Death. I don't know if Grindlewald is connected at all, or just a red herring. I don't know if the current Minister, after the death of Amos Diggery, is good or not, and I don't know what to think about Kathryn.

And holy mother of fuck chapter 14. The feels. Right in the stomach.

    Hagrid no :(

    Spoilers for days

For fuck's sake its Ginny again after the incarceration of Harry. I can't feel my ass. And she revealed that Nurmengard is the HQ of the MOD. I don't even know if she's lying. Please send help

    seriously read it

To the end of the story as of the last update. For fuck's goddamned sake

Life, like the sands of the desert, are so quickly changing that it is hard to keep grounded. When his life changed without warning, he didn't fight or give in, he took the change and made himself stronger than ever. A chanced meeting changed everything for both of them, a letter surrounded by his desire to learn and a will that never saw light; will change the very sands of fate.

I'll leave a comment simply because I read it. 1.5/5, because until the GoF scene, I actually didn’t have to force myself to read it -- not recommended.

So, the good: It consists of words you can read.

    The rest: See everything below.

Harry is more powerful than god, richer than than Bill Gates, and all around the second coming of Jesus.

Also, he has a 1967 Impala. Because why not.

It then runs down the checklist (Friendly!Goblins, will, heirs, super abilities, magic blocks, GreaterGood!Dumbledore, endless!summer) and eventually does end up back at Hogwarts. The bits out of the 2005’ Construction Kit For Indy!Harry and the Muggle stuff aside (which to be fair only gets a mention, so he isn’t driving round in his Impala and picking up chicks), the plot goes from here to there to everywhere, and the weirdest parts isn’t even that Sirius bangs Amelia Bones (yes, that is an actual plotpoint) or when Daphne starts to sing The Hanging Tree, or when Dumbledore goes fully bananas and is chucked into Azkaban, or when the Crouch/Moody thing is resolved off-screen (or I missed it?), but the detour to Germany where some sort of mafia branch of the Black Family runs the land and wants to marry their daughter to Harry by sending thugs to kidnap him at Hogwarts.

I suspect at this point the author just makes stuff up as he goes along. I also love how at some point, a magical animagus is avoided for fear of overpowering Harry ... when he already has the laundry list and then some -- and ultimately, Harry ends up with two forms XD

    I guess everything is relative.

So, sure, it has minor bumps -- such as Harry picking up a property in Somerset to be close to Daphne, except they then consider the Knightbus or Floo to meet, where it stands to reason he could be in Scotland and it’d make no difference, or descriptive gems ("Theo glared at her, with a smirk."); and it has major bumps such as Harry randomly starting to kill drunkards with ninja skillz because no other way is efficient to deter them, the author-insert!rants, the marauders revival including everyone!Animagi, the obnoxiousness that is supposed to be cool or bad-ass, but really makes him just look like a brat when shouts at everyone and their uncle (cringe at that "showdown" in the GoF scene) ... In other words, on the plus side (if someone considers it that), it’s a true Indy!Harry. On the downside, it’s a true Indy!Harry.

A lot better is this story. It's actually my current Best New Thing and it's only here because it hasn't really progressed yet.

    Old Blood
The Battle of Camlann never happened, thus the legacy of Arthur lives on. The blood of the founders still walk the halls of Hogwarts, while ancient enemies clash to this day. Years later, Harry Potter wakes up a stranger in a strange world. Between over competitive house relations and never ending mysterious plots, he must struggle to find the truth about that fated Halloween. AU

So I actually don’t know anything beyond what I learned in the story, but I don’t think that matters when reading. It just means I can’t give you any additional informations now :p

As far as I can tell, the idea is that the magical world and muggle world are still separate, but their wars are not. There’s a war for the Arthurian (Muggle) throne in Camelot, and the challenger is a peer, but a wizard, with claims based on an illegitimate son somewhere down the line. In his service is Voldemort, and the story starts with the defeat of both. After that, we follow Harry in Hogwarts.

This means the story actually has an interesting problem. So the world is all awesome and interesting and I want to know all about it ... and then comes Harry and is, well, not. You would rather want to read about Bellatrix Black (with the dangerously low cleavage, motto: Some problems can be solved with beauty, most with intelligence, but all with power) in the Wizengamot, or all about the war of the Ursurper, instead of watching Harry bumble cluelessly through Hogwarts.

That’s entirely unfair, of course, because if anything, Harry is more proactive than in Canon in trying to figure things out, and there are limits of what you can have him do, if you don’t want to go the 11-year-old-in-name-only route, but still ... get him involved in shit. At least it’s reasonably to expect that will happen, either through his history and the death of his parents, through Fem!Quirrel, or Scottish!Daphne (haven’t seen that one before). All have their own ties, and that way, the tangled web is in place.

TL;DR: Technically entirely adequate; an AU world that is different to the standard stuff, an interesting cast of characters -- I’m happy. A lot of potential, a lot of potential to go FUBAR, even more potential to never get finished, and all in all the most promising start of a story all year. 4/5.

Pretty decent story, it's got interesting plot with a good mystery trailing along. Couple of eye-roll moments, the biggest being that it actually took that long for Harry to have a talk with one of the countless flunkies he's disabled ever since they started moving openly.

Calling it now, Daphne is the mastermind and Ginny is the phantom.

I'm only in chapter 3, but balls, this is good stuff! I really like how the author twists canon in unexpected ways just because they can, and everything still feels right. The Harry Potter-ness really shines through. Much better than most of the stuff currently up for review IMO. Thanks for the rec!

Swords and Sorcery (Fate/Stay Night & Harry Potter)

So this a story that I've just reread and as I couldn't find any mention of it on the forum I'd like to recommend it. It's on spacebattles, so doesn't have an official description block but I'll try to give a basic summary although I don't think I can do it justice.

The story is a fun take on a slightly cliché concept. Shirou (from Fate/Stay night) is de-aged and sent into the Harry Potter world on accident and begins to try to find his way home. He meets Iris Potter, "The Girl-Who-Lived" on the Hogwarts express and proceeds to help her on her adventures.

Again as a basic summary it's accurate but really doesn't do the story credit. This is easily the best de-aged character goes to Hogwarts that I've ever read. It's well written and I don't recall spotting any glaring grammar errors.

Although Shirou is a big part of the story, Iris Potter isn't sidelined at all and still feels like a if not the main character. Shirou enables Iris to be even more awesome than in canon rather than just overshadowing her. Also while he would ideally like to find a way home he acknowledges the near impossibility of it and it's mostly mentioned in passing rather than spend half the story on it. The characters all feel real with their own motivations (even if as children some of them are rather simple) and there's no bashing.

The story explores and adds to the Harry Potter world. It keeps the Harry Potter tone from the early books and stays funny without straying into full parody.

There are a few negatives to it though, the main one for me is the start. The story doesn't quite hit it's stride until hmmm... I'm not sure exactly but the very first chapter is definitely the weakest, as it's dedicated to setting up the crossover. This could be due to not being that familiar with Fate/Stay Night though.

Overall it's a good fun story. 4.5/5 rounded up to 5 for me and easily worth a read.

I read a decent amount of it after seeing it pop up on the subreddit a few times. It's ok, but feels kind of random with the plot elements that the author decided to go with. I never finished it, and one day I just stopped reading it. Not sure why.

The Augurey By: La-Matrona After the war, Harry Potter is desperate to make sure that not a single life more is ruined by Voldemort's legacy. Aided by the ever loyal Hermione Granger, he makes a decision which will forever change more than one life. An epilogue disregarding, Cursed Child inspired, Harmony romance.
    Rated: Fiction M - English - Romance/Family - Harry P., Hermione G. - Chapters: 18 - Words: 73,449 - Reviews: 640 - Favs: 342 - Follows: 746 - Updated: Jul 6 - Published: Jan 7 - id: 12310861

The short summary: Delphi Riddle's name appears on the Black Family Tapestry while the gang is hiding out at Grimmauld Place. Harry ends up having orphan guilt after the war and goes looking for her.

The story touches Ron bashing from what I've read so far but it's not overly gratuitous and the HP/HG stuff isn't insufferable. I'm giving it a 3.5 rounded up at the moment and will probably put it up for review tomorrow (it's 1am atm and I'm not finishing the story now).

    Edit:

The story keeps dragging on with baby shit; chapter 17 and still no real progress with the story. Unless the story has a serious time skip and get us past the tedious baby shit I'm knocking off a point off the rating.

I just finished reading what there is of this, and I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from a decent grasp of basic mechanics (a few typos aside), which is always a pleasant surprise, the author is a decent story teller to boot. The author has done a lot to fill out their changes to the world, both muggle and magical, without throwing it too much in the reader's faces. It fades enough into the background of the overarching plot that it becomes something that just is rather than a giant blinking neon sign advertising the author's creativity.

On the other hand, some of the characters feel a little bland. In the first few chapters it seems a little hard to care about Harry and his problems, if only because he seems to not really care to do anything about them.

4/5 Probably library material when it gets a little further along.

Old Blood is also quite good, and the AU changes are delightfully subtle. Most authors can't resist shoving their world in everyone's face, but this gal seems content to let it proceed at its own place.

It's a little light on plot for the most part, but it's also not that far along so hardly a sin. Greatly looking forwards to reading more.

Easy 4/5, probably go higher once there's more to judge.

Something about it? Maybe the use of every cliche in the book for fem!Harry or a LOTR crossover?

For fucks sake, she's named Harley and even though Aragon asks for her help, she declines and then follows them for the Journey to rivendell.

    This is terrible.

2/5 simply because the author can use a damn spellcheck.

    Edit for shitty phone typing.

Did you actually read it or are you talking out of your ass?

    ---------- Post automerged at 14:00 ---------- Previous post was at 13:58 ----------

I assume you're trying to imply Harley is a special snowflake name. It's not.

And oh now, the character changed their mind, shock.

    I read it.

So far, it's a poor retelling of the books that falls into the same category as 90% of all HP/LOTR crossovers. And again, as I said, the only saving grace is that the grammar and spelling is thankfully on point.

The thing about war is that it never ends. Not really. The battlefields just change locations. Harry and Ginny after the war. Sequel to The Changeling. Harry/Ginny. In-progess.
    Rated: Fiction T - English - Drama/Hurt/Comfort - Harry P., Ginny W. - Chapters: 5 - Words: 26,866 - Reviews: 45 - Favs: 35 - Follows: 68 - Updated: Jul 26 - Published: Jul 12 - id: 12569750

I don't know if anyone else has seen, but the sequel to The Changeling (which is already in the library) has been posted. It alternates between Harry and Ginny's POV and new chapters are coming out almost every week.
Not much has happened yet, but it really feels like a war has happened and people are struggling to deal with the consequences.

(I thought I shouldn't put it up for review yet because it's only 26000 words atm. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Usually I believe the policy is to leave sequels in the thread of the original story, although if you want this sequel to make it into the library on its own merits then posting it to the Review Board is also fine.

It, along with theChangeling , is excellent. Far too short to review, though the style and elegance in the author's writing remains.

They're both very well-written, though only now do we see much substantive divergence, so I have trouble remaining all that interested in what happens.

The fics are great as character pieces, though I don't much like the Parlor characters-- they feel a bit cliche to me. I like Tobias, though, and Snape, who are both intriguing to read about.
