The Summer 2017 anime season is about to start, and it's actually looking pretty interesting. Especially in terms of movies. F/SN fans specifically have two things to look forward to.

The shows airing this season can be found here.

The most popular shows on MAL going into the season are:

    1. Hajimete no Gal: An ecchi series about, I assume from the cover, a short guy and an amazonian prostitute. I don't know why over 30 thousand people plan to watch this, and I'm not interested enough to find out.
    2. Fate/Apocrypha: An adaption of a light novel from the F/SN franchise, set in an alternate universe. It actually sounds exciting - however it's a LN adaption from A-1 Pictures, and its director is the same guy who directed Charlotte, so I'm going to hold my breath.
    3. Owarimonogatari 2nd Season: Second season of Owarimonogatari, part of the Monogatari Series. If I was caught of Monogatari I would definitely watch this, it's probably going to be really good.
    4. New Game!!: Second season of the 2016 4-koma adaptation, "New Game!", which apparently was pretty good.
    5. Kakegurui: Psychological/Drama anime centered around a school for rich kids with a curriculum based on gambling. There's also apparently some yuri subtext, which is never a terrible thing.

Also worth noting is Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu which is based on a card game or something - but it's made by ufotable so it's probably going to look really cool at least.

Finally, No Game No Life: Zero, a movie which adapts volume 6, and takes place a thousand years in the past is coming out on July 15th. There's also a Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya movie coming out in August, and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Reflection coming out on July 22nd - which actually has new material instead of adapting older material into a movie. I'm not lying, I'm more excited about all three of these than I am any of the shows airing.

Oh, and a KonoSuba OVA is coming out as well, which should be cool. Also, Digimon tri. 5 is coming out in September.

So, what're you guys planning on watching this season?

Long story short: guy gets pressured into asking out a turbo-slut and she actually says yes. Only she's not actually a turbo-slut because muh pure waifus. Que twelve episodes of PG romance and blue balls.

I do not understand why these things are popular.

Ballroom e Youkoso is my headliner of the season. I adore the manga so I'm hoping the anime does it justice.

Anime titties, is the reason. Fairly clear to me IMO. I've read the manga and it's basically bland "romance" shit that'll never actually go anywhere. Going to watch it, but I doubt I'll make it past episode 3. If that.

    Other things I'll watch:
Fate/Apocrypha: I'm hopelessly entrenched in the Fate fanbase by now, so I have no other choice. What's been translated from the novels makes it sound like it starts off pretty good and then just endlessly goes downhill, but who knows, maybe the adaption'll change it for the better.

Ballroom E Youkoso: Shounen (?) about ballroom dancing. I have basically no interest in ballroom dancing but somehow the manga kept me fairly interested. Depends heavily on good animation and soundtrack how much I'll like it.

Tsurezure Children: Occasionally funny, occasionally boring and melodramatic. Will check it out, but the manga never really progresses the romances and bored me. Part of why is I couldn't distinguish the characters. The anime should help with the second, not sure if it will the first.

Shoukoku no Altair: Arslan was fairly good, so I'll check this out.

Vatican whatever: This show doesn't really enthuse me, but cool priests doing cool things is an attractive prospect, so we'll see.

Boku no Hero Academia: If you're not watching this, do so.

KonoSuba OVA KonoSuba is fantastic, but also dead in the water, since the author's confirmed there's no plans to continue the anime adaption. Hopefully this'll stop my tears.

Seitoukai Yakuindomo Movie same as above

Lookin' at Fate. Maybe Knights, Reflection (such a vague description).

Maybe the smart phone one? Looks like it'll just be a dumb standard Isekai, but hey, maybe it'll be good.

Made in Abyss? Art looks weird.

Youkai Apartment could be good. Might be too slice of life for me, though.

Man, there does not seem to be much this season.

I don't know about Fate. It's not gonna be produced by ufotable but by A1-Pic and they have a history of being very good but they can be really horrible as well.

But really, no ufotable graphics and animation!!?

I'll watch any at least somewhat decent generic fantasy battle harems. Hard to think of any better guilty pleasures. Knight's & Magic seems like a sure hit.

Just watched the first episode of Kakegurui. The gambling itself was underwhelming, but the characters are decent enough - and the visuals are absolutely hilarious. The facial expressions alone were enough to carry the episode.

Kakegurui - I expected Yamamoto OP to be the only good thing about this show, but despite weak technicals and pretty stupid premise the first episode was really entertaining. But I'm afraid that they may not manage to keep the series varied enough to keep my interest.

Fate/Apocrypha - Meh, overly wordy infodump. Well, Fate/Zero also started with one, and it was good, so maybe this will be too. I sure would like it to be, but I don't have high hopes. Honestly, I would prefer an adaptation of LN with a more interesting premise like Prototype Fragments or Strange Fake, or Case Files.

Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu - Hoped for better animation, but it was decent enough and the storyboarding for fights was really good. Hiring swordfight specialist clearly pays off. The premise could lead to some interesting conflicts, but considering that the time-meddlers look like undead with dark aura and red eyes, I doubt so.

Isekai Shokudou - Ugly, badly paced and failing both in attempts at humour and in presenting moving intolerance story. Dropped.

Aho Girl's first episode is hilarious. Definitely going to watch the rest.

Actually from what I have read of the Light Novel the romance, and the harem aspect of it especially, is pretty lowkey and basically non-existent in the latter case. It is really mostly some (one-sided) "flirting" between the MC and the girl of the twins and while the rest of the cast has some females (though it tends towards male friends) I can't really remember any other serious love interest.

And the actual story is actually surprisingly good, at least for something in this genre. I was actually quite surprised by how it manages most of the more common tropes of its genre besides the OP-MC (and even that was mostly tolerable and funny).

Apparently the author of Knight and Magic doesn't do the whole "female fanservice" thing. He's all about the mech fanservice. Fuckin' loves robots.

    It was surprisingly hilarious.

Only really watching New Game 2, but I'll probably work Fate, Monogatari and maybe this idiot girl into my schedule.

God dammit, most of the anime that looked interesting for me are on Amazon rather than Crunchyroll.

I'm glad everything's getting licensed, but dammit at having three separate streaming sites.

New Game season 2 looks just as lovable as the first so far. Ill probably keep up with BnHA and Im catching up on Monogatari after watching the new Kizu part that came out recently.

I had already read the manga for Hajimete no Gal and it felt a lot better than the first episode. I didnt hate all the characters like I did in the anime so...

Also might check out that gambling show since people are liking it, and Made in
Abyss seems worth a look as well.

By the way guys, not sure what the DLP stance on self promotion is but this is my roundup of the shows I watched last season. Its my review blog with a lot of anime as well as Asian and Western movies.

Anyone tried out Classroom of the Elite?

Not amazing, but it's certainly not bad, be curious to see where they go from the first three episodes.

I did and I have to agree with you, so far it is an entertaining anime and I am interested to see how it continues. I especially like the MC and his "passiv"/laid-back nature since it is a welcome change from the standard shonen character (which I can't really stand).

I did, feels like a very pretentious discount version of SNAFU.
