Looks pretty cool. I didn't really care about Will in season 1, so I'm able to connect with him more in season 2 if he's going to be a main character now.

This trailer suffered from an unfortunate lack of Mike and Eleven.

I thought the trailer was weird and creepy in the best way possible for the series. I am excited for season 2.

What I love about Stranger Things' trailer so far is that you don't have a fucking clue of what's happening. Nowadays trailer almost show you the entire film; it's no longer a glimpse or a tease for a movie or TV show, it's a summary showing you all of the highlights. Love that after watching this trailer I'm just left wondering wtf is going to happen there.

Stranger Things is the new Breaking Bad for me, everyone and their dog talks about it, but I've never felt the draw. As I understand it's a horror series. Now, I don't do so well with horror. Is the fear factor cranked up high? Will I lose out on the experience if I don't watch at night with lights out and allow myself to get spooked?

It's got a similar feel to any Stephen King novel you've ever read. Builds up the tension through mystery and the occasional scare, but with the focus being on the people involved, rather than the monster in the dark.

I'd recommend giving the first episode a you if you're not sure on it. You'll get a good idea of how it's going to go, feeling wise, based on that.

Also, all horror shows should be watched in the dark.

I wouldn't classify it as 'horror', really. There are a few 'make you jump' bits, but it's really not scary in the way a particularly terrifying horror movie might frighten you. It's more of a creeptastic paranormal thriller trapped inside the setting of a cheesy alien/monster movie from the 80s.

Best description I can manage: Poltergeist got knocked up with Stranger Things after a one night stand with E.T. Neither could afford the expenses of childcare, so they gave the child away to their friends Twilight Zone and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a very nice couple who secretly enjoy swinging with their neighbors: The Goonies.

Also, 100 times more entertaining than Breaking Bad.

Comparing Stranger Things and Breaking Bad is like updating this thread with anything less than a leaked episode: a dick move.

    Interesting

    ...

SNOW BALL MOTHERFUCKERS. SNOW BAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL. GET HYYYYYPE! THAT'S ALL I WANTED!

    *Cough*

Oh, I should probably add it was phenomenal. Watched it all in one night. I was worried after the third season that lightning wouldn't, couldn't strike twice.

I think the only 'meh' bit for me was El's 'field trip', everything else was just riveting from start to end.

Seriously choked up during Mike and El's reunion too. They're adorable.

    What a show.

    "What about Bob?"

    Just gonna leave that there.

    Just finished episode nine.

Honestly, better than the first season. The new characters fit in seamlessly with the old ones, and many of them quickly became my favorites. Max and Bob stand out, as well as the conspiracy theory guy.

Somehow Steve Harrington is now my favorite character, and Jonathan and Nancy are ranking among my least favorite. I have no idea how that ended up happening. Steve's scenes with Dustin were comedy gold. If current trends continue, Billy will be my favorite character by the end of season three, whenever that comes out.

The only episode I was iffy on was episode seven. liked Eight and her friends, but it felt like there was too much character progression for Eleven at once. It was... off putting. It felt like it should have been paced out over at least one more episode or something.

Other than that, the entire season was amazing. I can't wait for season three.

tl;dr: The new season was totally tubular.

    I finished it this afternoon.
I thought it lost a little of the magic the first one had, but it was still an excellent season. On the negative side, there were very few misses, but they were there. The first miss was the character of Billy. He was too flat and too much of an amalgamation of several 80s era cliches. Moreover, his character just didn't go anywhere and what little conflict it introduced, was really unnecessary for driving the storyline or development of other characters. The second, as another has mentioned, was El's development and the friends in Chicago. That whole thing felt a little ham-handed, which was sad sinceEl's story up to that part of the story, and again after that part was great.

On the positive side, Max was a great character and worked very well with the others. In all honesty, both young women in the show are excellent actresses, and Noah Schnapp (Will) really showed off his acting chops as well. Very impressed. What impressed me more, however, was the behind the scenes stuff that really helped. Things like editing and little additional sound effects. For instance, in episode 5 when the sheriff is in the tunnels, there was this anxious feeling. In the background noise, just under the other sound effects, they had phones ringing (or effects that sounded like phones) It was a little off-key so it didn't immediately sound like a phone, but it was still noticeable if you focused on it. The effect was an anxious feeling like you know you had to do something, but you weren't doing it (like answering the phone). It was well played.

Speaking of well-played, I liked several of the foreshadowing elements of the show. The DigDug video game was great (for those of you too young, Dig Dug was a game where you ran around underground trying to kill monsters). The position of the fireplace as the camera panned or followed El in the Sheriff's cabin told me it was important long before it was. Using the shed to hide where they were as they woke up Will told you already that they were going to be found (just as Will was found the last time he was hiding there from something in the Upside Down).

I agree about Billy, couldn't quite figure out where he was supposed to fit in, especially the brief showing of his parents, I expected more from his role other than Billy Badass. I think they had more planned for him but it was thrown to the side for more development like with Max and 11.
