    Definitely this.

Don Winslow's Power of the Dog would make an awesome miniseries if done properly.

All of these books by necessity of budget and diversity could only appear on Netflix or premium channels...but I would love to see the different perspectives contained in each of the following books on TV. Restricted to English-speaking shows, the US/UK are pretty much the only settings we get. I understand that most shows want to be relatable to the average (white) viewer, but I do think there's a market out there for people who want to see something that actually broadens their world a little? I enjoyed Sense8 despite the nonsensical plot just because of the diversity and ambition of the premise itself. Maybe in a couple decades these adaptations would actually be possible too.

Year of Rice and Salt-This book would be perfect as a TV series. Each life the characters cycle through can be an episode/two parter. In the first life they're sold into slavery to the Chinese courts and political/historical drama ensues. In the next life one is reborn as a tiger who protects the other, who's a village boy, reminiscent of folk tales. It would be very similar to an anthology show, but focused on the historical past in the Middle East and Mongolian steppes...and throughout it all, we have these two souls, spiritually bound to each other so that they meet in each new life, though whether that leads to each others' death or salvation is uncertain.

City of Stairs-The magic system in this book would actually be pretty well-suited to TV. The effects wouldn't be any more difficult than the ones seen on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and I can easily see the show unwrap much as the book does. It begins with a spy sent into a hostile nation to investigate the brutal murder of one of their most respected citizens...but that investigation only leads to more and more secrets being uncovered, connecting the past with the present, and perhaps answering that one big question: Did the Gods truly die?

Temeraire-I just want to see more dragons on TV, okay? (No idea how so much CGI/large-scale battle scenes would work on a TV budget though...think GOT x 500.) The way the entire series travels across the world prevents any adaptation from getting stuck in one place, and it's pretty interesting seeing the effects of culture clash and colonialism in other countries. We also get a protagonist who begins with pretty much every advantage in life...who then gives it all up for the sake of honor (read: understanding and accepting those different from himself, dragons and human alike).

A Legend of Grimrock miniseries. I may have missed some important clues but the lore is fascinating to me. Why throw prisoners into an endless dungeon? What about the races place in the society? Does the king knows what is at the bottom? Or maybe he doesn't and hopes to find out without risking the lives of his soldiers? Also, Toorum. It may not be the biggest game out there but it definitely is fun and I think it could be translated well. Hell, if it's successful they could make a second season with the Lost-inspired tone of the second game.

A movie based in Scott Snyder's Witches. I haven't had quite a scare with a book in a long time but this definitely did the job. Would like to see it made with someone like James Wan.

Neil Gaiman's Sandman in an HBO serial or big budget movie series. Don't think I have to explain this one.

Also, a Del Toro adaptation of Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane would be nice to see

Someone already mentioned Mass Effect and Dragon Age and I cannot do anything but agree with them.

I think there's definitely a place in the universe for a Castle in the Attic movie. It (and its sequel Battle for the Castle) were some of my favorite books as a kid.

It's in development. Apparently - nothing much has happened with it since 2013, but stay hopeful!

Dresden Files. Seems like this might be happening. Butcher sounded optimistic.

Magic: The gathering. Is supposedly happening, though I dunno about what form it'll have. Would have huuuge amounts of lore to play with. Could be cool.

On the Dresden note, he's being kept on as a creative asset, apparently. That should help keep things in line somewhat, though the budget restraints of the other series could easily see things like Hrothbert of Bainbridge making a return.

I heard something about Joseph Gordon Levit being involved in some form or another as well.

Another dream would be a miniseries based on Carter Jensen's 'We, the Drowned.' It's a beautiful story about a Danish town spanning around a hundred years. It involves both World Wars and while the length of the story may be a difficult thing to out on screen, the way the characters are introduced in the book could work well with the show. One example is a character that was introduced in the second part of the story as the child of the characters on the first part.

Also, Brent Week's Night Angel Trilogy.

Instead of making an entirely new thread, I'm bringing this one back.

Just saw this on /tv/ and I'm wondering what people think about these casting choices:

I'm not sold on Keanu as Revan, but then again he's supposed to be amnesiac most of the time so perhaps he'd pull it off.

I remember @Odran knowing some stuff about KOTOR, would appreciate input.

I like Helen Mirren and Jake Gyllenhaal, but I'm not convinced about the rest.

I suppose Keanu could pull it off since he can be bland enough for a generated by players RPG character and still be a badass when necessary.

I always thought that Emily Blunt would make a nice Bastila. But she's too old now, I suppose.

For Kreia just get Sara Kestelman, her VA, since she's an actress anyway. For Sion, Mark Strong would be a far better fit, more intimidating than whatshisface there. Revan should be played by someone more fitting to the mullet avatar you get to pick from in the first KOTOR game. Charlize Theron is too old looking for Bastilla. Find someone more appropriate to her looks. I don't really have any objections to Mila Jovović playing the part of Handmaiden, but I think the role of Mira would suit her better.

Why the mixed up cast of KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2 characters though? Just settle on one or the other.

I'd like to see another Tom Clancy movie based on one of the books (Shadow Recruit was total shit). Rainbow Six could be a fun movie.

Remake of Neverwhere. They have to do it eventually right? It was literally made for TV. :(

I want a miniseries adaptation of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. The OG MW from 2007 is just so good. Potential for so much epic shit. That Hans Zimmer theme. Not sure about MW2 and 3, but 2 has that airport mission. Imagine audience reactions from people who don't know the games when they just start unloading on the civilians...

Medal of Honor TV show. Not an adaptation of the game though. Rather an anthology presenting the recipients of this decoration and how they got it. If you read some of the citations about their actions, you get ready to film stories of impossible actions and heroic sacrifices.

A live action show featuring The Wolf Among Us/Fables Comic series, made by HBO.

I personally think that it would be amazing. The great plot lines (especially the Adversary, the Homelands, and Boy Blue & Red Riding Hood), would make the prospect into a truly awesome show.

The show would be excellent, but only if they end it once they defeat Mr. Dark because the actual finale was very underwhelming in my opinion. Basically we got bunch of anticlimaxes and some teaser of future miniseries that never happened.

Not sure if it wasn't already mentioned, but the World of Darkness, focusing on Vampire Masquerade, would be perfect for multiple seasons TV series. Starting with introduction of multiple characters and their centuries long relationships and ending with Gehenna.

The sort of main character would be some new vampire taken under the care of Beckett allowing for an early introduction of a more mythical lore of the Vampires and not keeping to just one location because of his often travels. But since most important characters are centuries old, not only place, but time and historical setting could change.

Even more legendary events about Caine could be presented, though maybe in a different style compared to "real" events. Something like stylised presentation of Snyder's 300.
