Anyone else watching Travelers? It's a really good show about mental time travel done on a massive scale. I highly recommend it.

    Finally watched American Vandals.

It's great. It has to be one of the best mocumentaries ever. It parodies the type of "investigative" journalism you see in modern documentaries. The tortured logic, leaps in reasoning, ambushing and coercing witnesses.

    It's a complete hoot

White Gold kept on popping up on Netflix. It put me off for some reason, but I put the gut feeling aside and gave it a go last night.

You have to suspend disbelief quite a bit, but it is lots of fun. It's essentially Ed Westwick being a grade A twat and loving it. Picture the extreme narcissism of Danny McBride in Vice Principals/Eastbound and Down, but with more social acumen and slightly more self awareness.

Supporting cast includes Jay and Simon from The Inbetweeners. Nice surprise there.

    ---

The 2nd season of The Good Place didn't bode well, but I still kept up and ended up liking it. The plot is actually going somewhere (but where?) and not dragging on, so hopefully they don't completely fork shirt up.

Not sure why Go On (another quirky NBC show) got cancelled. If I recall correctly, it came on around the same time there was some trouble re: Community. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the name did it any favours either. Heck, maybe they had aired it in a particularly shitty time slot. At any rate, it features a grieving Matthew Perry who reluctantly joins group therapy and shenanigans ensue. Brett Gelman (Murray Bauman in Stranger Things), as the enigmatic Mr. K, is the star of the show for me.

If you haven't seen this, and you like The Good Place and Community, it might be worth checking out. I saw the whole thing 2 or 3 times.

So, I was really suprised that I couldn't find anything about this: Amazon is creating a LotR tv series. It's going to be a prequel, and because we don't know what that means, I'm of two minds about this. If it's a series featuring stories from The Silmarillion, it might be pretty epic, but if they will simply tell the story of a younger Aragon... I don't know.

And yet, I'm looking forward to this, at least until we know more. At least it will probably have a huge budget, and there is not enough good looking fantasy on TV (is there any besides GOT?).

I just picked this up 3 ep in and I think this is the best time traveler show I have watched since Continuum. (And Doctor Who but I don't count that.)

Been watching Dark on Netflix. Pretty good imo. Its in german, but you can get some terrible english dubbing if you can't understand the german. I've gotten @Xiph0 into watching it and I didn't see anyone else talking about it here.

Its pretty hard to describe. Its some dark imagery. There's a murder plot going, and then there's a bit of sci-fi and other stuff thrown into the mix and it just works. The storytelling is pretty good. I like how connected everything is. One episode you're left wonder who someone is, and then you're answered, and then its just a building plot line that gets deeper and deeper. It could be the fact I'm high on cough medicine, but I couldn't find a major fault with it.

Interstingly enough Amanda Tapping plays a small role in this. Shame she doesn't have abigger role. I loved her in SG-1.

Just watched Future Man. And freeking loved it.

It's like they took all the cliches from time travel stories and stuck in some heavy handed references to other shows and somehow got it to work. The end result being akin to a good crack fic tbh. It's stupid but meshes together really well.

The only problem is that it feels like they planned out a 24 episode season and only got 13 on air. So some of the later stuff feels rather rushed compared with the early episodes.

I had my problems with "The Blacklist" in the past but I have to admit that I really like this season. I never had the problems with the female MC that others had but I really think she is doing superb work this season and her arc and interaction with Red is very entertaining, at least to me.

Thanks for posting. Ten minutes in, and I love it.

I've been out of the tv show game for a while. Used to watch loads of them, but gradually stopped and replaced the habit with fanfiction.

Anyway, this show has so many sitcom actors I really liked. Funches, Keith David (Elroy in Community), Eliza Coupe (from Happy Endings, which can be annoying, but also pretty good), and Haley Joel Osment (only seen him in Silicon Valley). Quite pleased to see them all in here.

I may have missed other people as well.

I enjoyed the available 3 Counterpart episodes, a new Dark SF Noir show. It's a low key with J.K.Simmons who is just brilliant. It's about a connection between 2 different earth realities and some spy game going on between both realities under secret but official diplomatic relations. One earth seems to be closer to 70s/80s, the other seems to be our time. It plays in Berlin for now and the look is drab and atmospheric.

Great acting. It's slow and not flashy so people with an attention disorder might not enjoy it:)

Actually, from what I understand, both realities are in the same year, they just developed differently due to diverging events after the unexplained experiment that caused the universal split a few decades ago. The other universe seems to be less advanced with computer tech (no smart phones) but more so with biological tech (genome mapping, treatment for HIV, Hep C cure, agricultural stuff) due to a massive pandemic of some sort (for which they blame the other Earth).

Otherwise, I totally agree. Great show. J.K. Simmons is really showing his range.

Just started watching Salvation. I got about halfway through season one before dropping it in disgust. It's a morass of overused tropes and poor writing. The premise was fun if a little unoriginal, but it descended into this shitstorm of poorly written cloak and dagger and wild conspiracy. For that matter, there are so many plotholes and sloppily inserted fixes the whole show looks like the frathouse whore. They also absolutely butchered any and all science they used, to the point that a child could have pointed and wondered what the fuck was wrong. A quick wikipedia search would have provided some easy fixes that wouldn't have compromised the narrative.

    Don't watch it.

All you say is true but the real attraction of that show is its meta layer. At least it keeps me wondering how it got produced in the first place because of its interesting political and military messages while the US mainstream media is "managed" by the CIA/Military. Is there some kind of preconditioning going on and what kind because there are so many layers there:)

This show is made for a prime TV channel for the masses and not some niche channel.

    Ooooooook.....
No, there is a lot of good mainstream TV these days, most of it done very well, even outside of HBO, Netflix, and Amazon. This was exceptionally shitty. Hell, the Syfy channel managed to produce some good TV recently.

In the last few weeks I decided to watch a few of the Korean and Chinese TV-shows and many of them are actually quite entertaining. And is certainly interesting to see such different cultures at work, for example K-drama tends to be surprisingly "conservative" when it comes to relationships. I mean some of the stuff, like the bigger focus on family/parents, I expected but other stuff, like people viewing divorce as a massive social stigma or even a hard time imagining a male and female living together without being married/romantically involved is really unintentionally funny to a guy like who grew up with the western TV-shows.

Edit: And the Chinese stuff on the other hand tends to be far more liberal^^.
