I'm guessing their eyes were quite large when they realized their take. Are they still going to do the Lando movie? Or was that just rumor.

    Nope. Nothing.

They're only concentrating on Ep. 9 and the next trilogy. Nothing else.

That's idiotic. The reason Solo did poorly at the box office is because of Episode 8 and Rian Johnson...Not because of the spinoffs.

Do the people in charge of this even bother to check the temperature of the fanbase?

I mean...that's definitely going to be a part of it, but it's not the whole story by any means. I loved TLJ - I can understand (to a point) why some people didn't, but I thought it was fantastic, as did my best friend. Neither one of us has bothered to go and see Solo yet. We just can't get enthused about it; like Rogue One, it just seems like a story that doesn't really need to be told, certainly not in a dedicated film. It was this kind of story that the old EU was made for, and still could be, even in its new form.

This is why I would love a change in leadership.

The reason Solo failed is numerous.

The Last Jedi debacle. (Plot sucks, screenplay sucks, the way they treated Luke sucks, fans rebel)
Directors being fired in mid-stream and replaced by Howard.
Endless reshoots always spell doom for a movie, and in this case doubled the budget. It would have made money, albeit, barely breaking even otherwise.
Putting a no-name actor in for Ford.

And the big one for me. It never should have even been made. Having a Solo fanboy as a producer isn't reason enough to blow $500 million dollars.

They should have gone for the sure thing. Kenobi and/or Boba Fett.

    Branch out!

Rogue One was brilliant, and had a brave ending. It was sort of tangential to the main plot, so had a bit more freedom in how everything had to fit.

I liked Solo, by itself. But it felt like they just wanted to rehash Han's character - he started as a brave ne'er-do-well with decent intentions, and stayed that way the entire way through. Sure, he was out for himself first, but he wasn't willing to refuse to help others. But the storyline in isolation of the previous films wasn't too bad.

I think the problem was they stuck too close to already established characters, and they just couldn't measure up to expectations

Make a pod-racing film (call it THIS IS PODRACING), and have it be a tale of the up-and-coming Dug racer, Seb. How he does okay in the small leagues, but crashes and nearly dies in his first major race. How he has to struggle to get the funds to buy a new speeder, and start again from the bottom, before facing his fears on the major track.

A political thriller, on a senator trying to send relief to a besieged garden world, where an ignorant monarch nationalised the energy supply. They're fighting against popular opinion ("She raised our gas bill!"), and political pressure ("This is a legitimate corporate blockage") to do what they feel is right.

A romcom between a male Togruta and a female Human, clashes in cultural understanding leading to a comedy of errors. If you want, set it during the years of the Empire, and have them go against the humanocentric racism for a slightly heavier tone.

Word of mouth and fatigue sunk Solo. It's great. I'm guessing majority of the people shitting on it haven't even seen it.

The new 'trilogy' has been average (7) to pretty terrible (8). The spin-offs have been the breath of fresh air I needed from that cinematic universe.

Imagine we lived in a world where 7 and 8 didn't exist, where no one was super worried about a huge, overarching narrative and was just focused on telling good, contained stories.

    I want that.

I'm so sick of nostalgia wank and everyone trying to redo/recapture the past at this point - one could even argue the spin-offs are nostalgia wank. I wish they'd just be bold. As much as I think I'd love an OWK standalone, do something new.

Though tbf, knowing SW fans, they'd probably hate it and rage about not getting a Fett film.

I don't think nolstagia wank is necessary. I just think they need to respect what came before. There is a difference.

The article I read specifically stated that the everyone that was previously working on developing Kenobi is no longer doing so. That article linked is so full of double-speak it's silly. "We're not saying there won't be a movie, but there might be a movie... maybe." That's what I got out of it.

Is it out of the question? No. Definitely not. I suppose the best way to look at this is that they are testing the waters to measure out public opinion on trashing the Anthology series. Then again, with the daily rumor mill popping out the kitchen sink, they may have run out of decent things to talk about. So, they stir the coals to keep interest in the main series... or something like that.

I would take all those 'sources close to the studio say' articles with a grain of salt. Wait until Disney actually makes a statement to be disappointed.

Kennedy came out and said Boba Fett is still in the works, but it needs to work on marketing it different than Solo.

Her thoughts are that if a movie starring Han Solo, one of the most recognizable figures in SW, fails then Boba Fett might follow the same path. Yes, Kennedy... it was the marketing.

Kenobi is redlit. Everything has ground to a halt.

SW:Underworld (Live action TV Show), which I thought was shelved a long time ago, was actually in the works. But it's now canned in limbo with Kenobi.

    Sad day.

Would take a million Solos before I'd take Episode 9...

Well, if Hamill isn't returning... we need a force ghost other than hilarious unhinged yoda?

Cool, one of those trailers that gives away most of the movie. :/

I’m exited for this. Unbreakabls and split were both fun movies.

    I dunno.

I mean, on one hand it has an absolutely stellar cast. On the other, it’s directed by M. Night. Lets-do-a-plot-twist. I’ve never liked his movies.

For a second, I thought it was gonna be a surprise Tarantino flick. Haven’t seen Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson co-starring for a long time.
