    Title: The truth decays
    Author: Marz1
    Category: Adventure/Drama
    Rating: T
    Pairings: Unknown
    Chapters: 15
    Words: 96,617

Summary: Edward Elric can't get back to his own world, so he tries to make a life for himself in the closest one he can find. Yep a nice quiet life, no military breathing down his neck or monsters trying to live forever, but then a kid in an orange jumpsuit...

I actually think that this has the potential to be right up there with General Grievos's fics. Yeah, it is pretty good. A slow pace coupled with a slow update rate might hamper the fic though.

That said, I think that this is the first time I have seen a crossover that doesn't place a person in the super category. Ed isn't some quasi ultimate ninja that just happened to grow up in the alchemist world and somehow found himself in the shinobi universe deciding to learn ninjutsu and taijutsu and genjutsu. No he sticks to what he knows...It made the story an interesting read. Not much Naruto as of now, but I expect that they will have more interaction later when Naruto's mission is over.

One thing that annoyed me a little is the fact that everyone was singing praises when ever they met Ed. It has that 'ohhhh, he is so cool' feel about it. But considering it is Ed I think I can forgive it. :p

xP Yes, everyone except for the ANBU, the Council, and the Torture and Interrogation department.

Ed is/was the Alchemist of the People. He is naturally helpful and goes out of his way to lend a hand. Its no surprise that the civilians and the few ninja who aren't out for his head like him.

Been following this one for a while, and I like it a great deal. Wish there was more, but its a relatively new fic. 5/5

How about you actually do the fic the honor of capitalizing the titles? It's quite annoying. And I make it a rule never to read stories where the author doesn't have the decency to correct the grammatical mistakes in the summary or story title. Call me petty, but that's usually the first and best indication of the author's dedication to crafting a good fic.

    *sigh*

Which is why I find it annoying when others can't properly capitalize the titles, especially in a forum meant to publicize fics.

    ==========

More on the fic, however: I loved it.

While the start was rather anticlimactic, especially with how Ed was completely disabled by Itachi and other shinobi, the most recent set of chapters have truly pushed this fic beyond epic.

I especially enjoyed the scene where Ed sinks the interrogation department.

    Definitely 5/5.

    I enjoyed it.

Ed's skill at sinking Kanoha into the ground is funny and how he dealt with Sasuke was epic.

I can't wait for Naruto, and the others to get back and see the chaos that's irrupted because Ibiki decided to be an illogical asshole.

    Edit: 5/5 for me...

Edit 2: Now if only some of the other FMA/Naruto crosses out there would update life would be gold...

    Okay.

I had to stop reading halfway through the first chapter.

As a serious fan of both the Naruto and FMA mangas, I find this story difficult to get into.

The author goes out of his way to make Ed look like some completely mature, rational person while dumbing down Naruto beyond reason.

He's literally retarded in this story.

If you don't see the difference between manga Naruto and this Naruto, I suggest you go back and reread the finding Tsunade arc.

    Naruto doesn't have ADD.

Ed and Naruto have more things in common besides their blond hair and stature - they're both incredibly naiive about the worlds they inhabit.

Now I know that begins to change in both stories as they progress, but I'm not appreciative of this bastardization of both their characters.

And yes I did read the part about Ed being from his home world after triumphing over evil, but still. His character isn't at all as cynical as he appears to be here.

Basically it rubbed me the wrong way and I don't think I'll continue reading it.

On another note, Naruto makes for pretty terrible crossovers in my opinion since ninjas from the Naruto universe could slaughter pretty much anyone.

The ability to move almost as fast as the eye can see - a basic skill of all mid to high tier ninja - trumps pretty much anything in any crossed story, bar Bleach or something similar.

Ed would either have to be given a huge leg up in order to overcome the physical advantages that nearly every character in this world has or the ninjas would have to be severely dumbed down.

That's all there is to it.

    Errr...
You think Ed is naive? He is emotional, hot-tempered and many other things, but he is hardly naive.

That is what I was thinking. Ed, who is responsible for his brothers loss of a body being "naive" isn't what I'd describe him as. I assume you are talking about the bit where Ed tells Naruto that ninja and trouble are synonymous. To Ed, who was in a military, ninja in the Naruto universe must look a lot a like. He never wanted to be " a dog of the military" why would he want it now?

Ed is pretty much in character. Hot tempered, emotional and pretty much doing what canon Ed was doing. The only bit that surprised me is the fact he was willing to pay for Naruto's food... And even then it was only was that he could get Naruto of his back.

Naruto is in character as well. He wanted to find out what those flashing lights were and concluded they were some jutsu. Naruto was being naive right there and the fact that he thought that Ed would just up and teach him if he bothered him enough is proof of it.

    Also;
Ed isn't a ninja and because of his handicap, he got his ass handed to him by Itachi.

In the FMA manga Ed is very naiive - learning all about the horrors of the world as he stumbles along. Like Naruto, his character has a deal of autonomy but is also led around by the nose by the adults (his superiors) quite often. In almost every new arc he learns something new about the harsh reality of the world he lives and the army he serves.

As I said, that changes over time with him learning about the true motivations of many of the key players, but he never stuck me as a character who'd become as cynical as this.

And as I said before, this Naruto is too stupid to function. Canon Naruto just isn't like that. This author goes out of his way to make two characters whose canon portrayals are very similar (big hearts, strong sense of morality, idealistic, and hard working) look like night and day. It's not well done.

And I went back and skimmed the rest of the chapter as well. While Ed did lose rather terribly, he should have been dead after Kisame's first strike cleaved through his automail arm. The dude is fucking stronger than Gai. And catching his sword? Yeah I don't think so.

If you want an FMA comparison, fighting a ninja in the Narutoverse would be like fighting Wrath on steroids, and that guy is fast as hell.

Well, I'm not sure about the manga. But in the Anime he never wanted to be in the military because of some war that happened that had killed a lot of people, including Winry's parents. His teacher even shouted at him for joining the milatary. By the time the anime ended, he learned his dad use to be aprt of the Homonculus conspiracy. The leader of the military, the guy with the eye-patch was a homonculus and was using the war that had killed Winry's parents to gain the Philosopher Stone.

But that is beside the point. Ed had said; "ninja and trouble are synonymous in this country". The way I interpret this is that he was speaking of his own military experience, which did make him harden up more after bertrayals and information about other things like how the Philosopher Stone was made. Keep in mind that people, like myself, have only watched the Anime. I understand that they become different around chapter 25 in the manga.

The view that Ed holds of ninja isn't the issue I'm having, it's that the author tries to make him seem like this worldly old soul who can take anything in stride when in neither the anime nor the manga is he portrayed as such. Even in the anime he is shown to be incredibly shocked at the horrible things that people are willing to do to one another and the reality of the world at large - including the manipulations of Wrath (King Bradley) and the rest of the homonculi.

Yet in this story he comes off as someone completely at ease and in control, when reality is that he was jerked around by others through his own story just as much, or more, than Naruto is in his.

And I also sort of resent the author for reducing Naruto to a lost puppy willing to ask anyone or anything to show him a technique - that's not how he is in the manga at all.

Sure he asks Kakashi and Jiraiya for that sort of thing, but they are not only his teachers but are also both in the top 20 of the world's most dangerous ninja, Jiraiya being in the top five.

Like I said before, Naruto is not retarded, which is just how this author seems to want to portray him.

Too true. It was the reason I stopped after chapter 3, when I read it a while ago.

This story doesn't appear to be abandoned - it updated as of last month.

It's also worth a read, I like the interplay between Itachi and Kisame, and later Ed and Anko.
