What, really? Nobody here watches it?

Well, the premise of the show is pretty simple. Mainsteram sci-fi. Man (Alien) travels through space and time (ending up in modern day London quite often), acquires many companions along the way (who tend to end up being 18-20 year old girls), and solves various contrived situations (usually through deus ex machina).

The show's been running on and off since the 1960s, and is a staple of british culture these days. There was just a special released today for Easter.

On what basis do you assume that no one here watches it? Or even knows what it is?

And your summary of the premise is...lacking shall we say. Exceptionally lacking.

The basis that nobody had created a thread for it yet. Most fans of the series, me included, tend to be the obsessed ones.

It's really had to describe this show simply. Care to describe it better?

No, because its impossible. I would simply tell folk that its an awesome show, and advise them to go watch it.

Though admittedly the Easter Special left something to be desired.

Now, now... no one expected anything great from Tennant, either.

That said, I want to punch the new guy so hard in the face. He looks like he's got about as much depth as a car park puddle.

    Time will tell.

Can't wait for the specials that they will be realeasing through out the year with DT, and I am somewhat apprehensive about Matt Smith.. he looks a bit young to be the Doctor, don't you think?

This. I honestly couldn't tell the difference from the guy who played in Twilight and the 11th Doctor. Emo looking Doctor already makes me hate him... A lot. But we'll see, I suppose. It'd be hard to replace Tennant though.

Yesterday's Easter special wasn't as good as the preview made it out to be, but still something to watch, imo.

I really wanted him to take her with him. It doesn't really makes sense to me that he won't take new partners after the loss of Donna. I mean, why would he take new partners after the loss of Rose, which he had a deeper connection with, and not after the loss of Donna?

We haven't yet seen what Matt Smith is made out of yet, so I think I will withhold my judgement until that time.

/me runs off to watch Planet of the Dead

EDIT: I saw Rose as a sort of girlfriend, and Donna as his bestfriend so the reaction/aftermath would be different. Also, maybe he is feeling guilty for what he did to Donna; taking away her memories and such. And that's why he won't take new companions.

EDIT2: At first I thought Lady Christina was Gwen from Torchwood. They look a bit alike, don't you think?

Overall it was pretty good, though the last part the four, or whatever, knocks was a lame attempt at foreshadowing.

I have to say, I can't wait for the next special!

I though it was more of a brother-sister relationship with Donna. I mean, she was almost disgusted at the prospect of him being a (to) mate.

Well Doctor who, what can I say? It's brilliant. David Tennant especially makes the show spectacular and he's one of the few actors that DESERVES their fangirl following. As for Matt Smith, i'm not optimistic. He could be good and like Joe said, noone expected anything of David when he first came onto the screens. The idea he could usurp Ecclestone who had been fantastic at reviving the show was almost ludicrous, but he managed it beautifully.

I get the feeling Smith isn't going to be as successful, he doesn't seem to carry the charm that is so often associated with the Doctor. And his young age is just going to make any scenes where he is persuading enemies or allies seem all the more unlikely and unrealistic.

In a show that ignores realism completely this could be no problem at all, but it tends to ignore realism on a huge scale, and often it is the little kinks that stand out to the viewer.

So until he proves otherwise, Matt smith gets a big fat meh from me.

Also did anyone think the companion in the easter episode couldn't act to save her life? It was the flattest performance i've ever seen.

I think it's more the fact that he loses them every single time that makes him leery about trying again. Of course, we go through the "I shall never travel with a companion again" rigmarole whenever he loses one, so take it for what you will.

Anybody else want to see Jenny Doctor show up again? Maybe the hottest actress they've had on that show, and is IRL a daughter of a former Doctor (I forget which).

Easter special was pretty good. Christina came off as a little Mary-Sueish, but she might have redeemed herself if the story had continued. Catherine Tate is funny as hell, but significantly lacking in the eye candy department.

Big D: I definitely want to see Jenny turn up again, though considering that IRL Tennant is tapping that, it seems unlikely we'll be seeing her for a while.

(She's the daughter of the 5th Doctor btw)

Anywho, I was pretty underwhelmed by the Easter special, it had more stupid cameos from UNIT and there "I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU IF YOU DON'T ACT LIKE A TOTAL BASTARD!!!11!" which just comes off as laziness on Russell T Davis' part.

Christina was dull, I don't rate the actress that highly (though she was decent in Jekyll, written by Stephen Moffat (as this episode should have been)) but her character was basically Jenny but with black hair. She was however memorable though for having the absolute worst line I have ever heard in Doctor Who; "That's how the aristocracy survives, by being ready for everything."

I've never been so embarrassed to be a Whovian.

Also, did anyone else find the "chops and gravy are the most important things in life" scene to be fairly un-Docteresque? He's a man who lives for the extraordinary, not the banal.

Edit: Oh, and I wish to applaud Davis on the subtlety he employed when naming the sexy female thief "Lady Christina." Obviously no one would compare her initials to another famous thieving LC, huh?

I'll reserve judgement on Smith until the first episode (read: He looks totally gay and emo.)

I will concur. It was fucking awesome. Loved seeing the darker side of the Doctor's personality.

Can't wait for Xmas day's show. The 3 minute preview revealed on Children in Need tonight left me wanting more!
