This is quite possibly one of the most awesome fics I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is so awesome, that Tvtropes put up a page regarding just how fucking awesome it is. Of course, just saying that this fic is awesome doesn't do it justice for explainging why it is awesome.

This fic relies on a very simple premise. As the author says: "Shinji to be awesome doesn't need to be an asshole. Or be replaced utterly. One simple, simple thing. Just change his childhood. Make him happy. Everything pulls its own weight after that." And by god does it pull its weight here. All the changes that take place revolve around that simple little change. Quoting tvtropes, "The irony of ironies is that Shinji's exposure to W40K actually gives him the purpose and courage to make Neon Genesis Evangelion a less dysfunctional and more optimistic setting." This fic is insanely over the top, and it is awesome because of that.

A nitpick about this fic though would be the way the author formats his works and some minor spelling/grammar mistakes, though he honestly didn't have an editor at the time to deal with that. He has people who help with spelling and grammar, but the author has decided to keep the format as it is so as to keep the fic looking consistant.

    This fic gets a 5/5 from me.:D

Damn, just finished chapter one and all I can say is wow.

That was epic, I know the word gets thrown around a lot but for once it actually fits, that was fucking epic.

    Mind = Blown.

Seriously, even if you've never seen or can't stand NGE the Prologue itself stands alone as an awesome piece of writing.

The quality of the writing in this story is incredible. While as noted by Robo Jesus that there are a few grammatical errors, the author has put an insane amount of care into plotting out this tale.

That said, the story bored me. Despite there being a few incredibly humorous parts, I failed to connect to the characters at any significant level. I actually fell asleep reading this at my desk. This is not going to be a popular opinion, but I felt that this story just ran too damn long.

    3/5

I've been reading it for the last nine hours, fuck university this shit is astounding. The amount of thought behind this fic is boggling to my mind. I have another ten chapters to go and I am so eager to finish them.

I could see why some might find the fic boring, the story moves slowly, the introspective moments are long-winded and repetitive at times.

Nevertheless, I love it 5/5. The characters are interesting, the interaction within Shinji's mind were what I initially found fascinating. Subsequently I greatly enjoy the manipulations and the action sequences.

[Edit] Just reached the bit with the Magnos Tancred and it getting fixed up, this fic's descent in the W40k universe is just AWESOME! Yes I'm a W40k nut, now fuck off and read the fic.

[Edit 2] Alright four hours later and I'm a few more chapters in and it's lost its shine. The character developments came too fast, then he reverses them at will. This latest chapter I've read with the whole random trip to China has just been shit. I'm probably not going to finish the last 8 or so chapters that I haven't read today, because I'm tired and this fic has lost it's sparkle.

The first 15 chapters or so were awesome but then the Angels started getting overpowered, which resulted in turn in the Eva's getting more powerful. The AT fields are just getting ridiculously OP. It became less about manipulation and imagination and more about exploring new characters and developing them in relation to Shinji's role as the Emperor, which hasn't happened yet but the foreshadowing is fairly easy to spot. That would all be fine if it had been done a little better. As it is the weird super Soji and Ken (the two boys that are mates with Shinji) moment was sort of cool but their subsequent almost renormalization and fall into their old patterns of behaviour annoyed me. The ongoing unresolved issue with Asuka is really getting tiresome, the kiddie Ork thing just comes and goes when the author feels the need to flesh out chapters it seems. All in all less cool, more drool.

[Edit 3] Well I finally finished the damn thing off. It's a very, very good fic. That said the sheer awesomeness of its pseudo-evolution of the W40k universe is restrained by the long introspective moments which although fascinating at first by the 20th or so start to feel a little repetitive.

Three words of warning, people this fic is pretty fucking huge at 550 thousand word and at times it's not great but it has really awesome moments. A lot of people might not stick it out the whole way through but I feel that it's definitely worth doing so.

Second warning the author plays with the fourth wall, almost every chapter, it's humorous in my opinion but some may not like that sort of thing.

Third, and finally to really understand this fic and some of the best aspects of it pretty deep knowledge of Warhammer 40k is needed. Without it, it's still an inspired fic but the hints and jokes won't be as funny or may not make sense.

I loved this fic and I'm going to be eagerly awaiting for updates, having finished reading it retains 5/5 I gave it when I was only halfway through.

Heh. The Javaal arc was a bit of a hassle to get through, but it serves an important purpose for things that have been happening in the past few chapters (nessacery evil I guess for what the author did and is still doing with it). And did I not state beforehand that things were over the top in places?:p

New chapter posted yesterday. Not that great really, just an intro into a new arc.

What Kraken said, this latest chapter isn't particularly great, new antagonist in Nawori and I'm not all that interested in him to be honest. Needs moar Shinji in giant robots killing shit, less philosophical spiel.

    Setup chapter mainly.

The forces of the UN are being corrupted from the inside by Kaworu's forces (can anyone else say "Birth of the Inquisition" here?), Europe is being setup as the place where the next major battlefield takes place, Ritsuko has utterly lost her fucking mind and become a full fledged spark, and someone or something has awoken and is walking around in the body of one of Rei's sisters.

I kinda feel like this story lost its way a long time ago. Eventually became way, way, WAY too big for its own good, and now it just seems like a mess whenever I try to read it. I suppose Warhammer fans will still enjoy it, but as I'm not one (indifferent to it), I really don't. Not a whole lot about it that's recognizable as Eva to me anymore. Shame, as I really enjoyed the earlier chapters of the story.

It's not an Eva fic at all anymore, but it's not a Warhammer fic yet. It's in some weird transitional stage. The Warhammer is just about all that's keeping me interested these days.

True. I do agree about it needing to be a little less speechy and more break and smash.

I'm pretty certain that bpen (I can't remember if he confirmed this or not) was using an combo WH40K/Eva universe to start with (a lot of obscure Evangelion canon data would easily fit into the WH40K background if used right, and vice versa).

As for my personal opinions, I think the figures that created the point of divergence in this story are quite possibly the result of the dickery of either the Eldar or Tzintchi, and that is why we're seeing the parrallel's that have been popping up (self fulfilling prophecies and all that ("The future only calls for events to be altered to suit itself. It is the present that is malleable, never the future.")).

I read this a few weeks ago, actually. I've never seen Neon-whatever before but wiki got me through the things I couldn't pick up. I mostly read it because I was bored, I like Warhammer 40k and I wanted to see what managed to get an entire TvTropes artcile on it.

I'd give it a 3/5 as well. Sure, it was interesting at the start but I felt that it got too big and too ambitious and just created a clusterfuck of different stuff. Frankly, I stopped reading around the late teen chapters (or was it the early 20's) because I grew bored and was just skimming stuff.

No way, how can you not have seen Evangelion, it's the greatest anime ever. Period.

    *Almost agrees*

Certainly worth watching if you haven't seen it already shezza, it's one of the best anime out there, try to watch a Japanese subbed version if you can, they cut out a fair bit in the American dubbed versions you can buy or rent in Australia. As you've wikid it you'll lose some of the best moments of revelation but it's still an amazing anime. I don't think I have been more creeped out then when Shinji masturbated over Asuka's comatose body in "End of Evangelion" (cept maybe by :office).

5/5 in my opinion, if only for the sheer thought put into the plotline.

Warhammer40k is rather lengthy and hard to keep track of at times, but I'm the sort of person who can stick to something like this (God Emperor of Dune, anyone?) and all its "philosophical spiel."

Naworu's become an interesting twist now that he's rather trying to steal Shinji's thunder through global politics/charisma. Instead of clear-cut mech battles, the upcoming struggle will be much more sinister, dependent on human agents, I think. And with Asuka as the only pilot capable of facing Naworu, we're sure to have some heavy Asuka-development in the upcoming chapters.

The plot develops smoothly as always; at this point in the story, I'm not sure how much I personally like the way the story's progressed or how Shinji's become so far removed from the action, but the story's still an admirable piece of work with all its logic well thought out, and I enjoy very much this ride.

Updated again. Pretty good chapter, and author said it marks the 75% completion point. Next chapter looks like it's going to be pretty damn epic though.

I really liked the start but around chapter 15 the story reached a whole new level of fucking stupid. The scene where Shinji and Asuka sat down and discussed philosophy was especially cringe-worthy, and I got the impression that the writer had just completed an Intro to Philosophy class and wanted to show off. I kept at it for a few chapters after that, but seriously lost interest. The fic just turns bad with an abruptness that rivals Chunin Exam Day.

I give it 3 Perfect Lionhearts out of 5, if only because I really enjoyed the beginning and the author clearly put a lot of effort into this.
