Time for a new thread. The other one is getting pretty big. Old thread can be found here.

Even older ones can be found here, here, here and here.

In that spelling's defense, that was how I pronounced her name when I first started reading the book. Granted, I was in the second grade when it happened, but yeah.

Still, Warlocke's post essentially addressed most of my gripes with people's misspellings of shit that should be obvious by now.

Also, the use of Legilimens as a verb. I believe, to accomplish this, the author twisted it into Legilimentalise.

    I don't even understand.

That applies to most spells in general. A character is "Crucioed" or "Reducto'd", or a character "casts an Imperio", or some other retarded variation. Some are more offensive than others, but it's always annoying.

Unfortunately, JKR does the same thing. On HP Lexicon, there are examples of when she has used such wording. I've seen it on the wiki, as well. Annoying as all hell.

    New thread, huh?

You couldn't have cut the old one off at 111? :)

Thought I'd quote this bit, since these are handy sites.

That last one, particularly, since most people who give a damn already know where they can find a dictionary or thesaurus, but Brians covers a lot of homophones and phrases people goof up on an inexplicably regular basis. He even added that godforsaken monstrosity, "minus well".

Question; was Legilimentalise inside or outside quotation marks?

“Legilimentalise?” Hermione blurted. “That’s not a real word.”

Although he did what he could, Harry’s crappy Occlumenmagusy skills failed after a pitiful second, and the greasy haired man now knew where he’d buried all his victims’ bodies. There was only one thing the terrible author writing this story could do, he or more likely
she was forced to resort to Slash.

Oh, and I agree with Warlocke by the way, ignorance it one thing but laziness is way, way worse. I can now spell McGonagall, and the Sites link was just as spectacularly useful too me as the How to Write Dialogue Sticky was.

This example was how it was used.

Well shit, that’s gotta be annoying as hell.

I hope the next time you see the guy someone will have magicked up a large animal conjugation to go maul him to death.

Just to help kick off this new thread, how about an old and much-mentioned/lamented peeve: Stories that never get completed.

Partially Kissed Hero just got another chapter (its one-hundred and second), after about a 14 month gap. And, yet, I'm still pining away (pining, I tell you!) for another chapter of Inevitable by Mhalachai, which last updated almost 4 years ago. :(

It's a cruel world, no doubt about it.

Back in 2006, when dinosaurs roamed the internet, and DLP had a reputation system, instead of the "Thumbs Up", someone anonymously neg-repped me for writing "Ginevra", saying that it was actually "Ginerva"... :facepalm

    I was not amused.

Incidentally, that thread is another one of the forerunners of the previous Pet Peeves thread.

Which, I suppose is another pet peeve: Getting 'corrected' by people who are wrong about a well known fact, when you got it right in the first place. Even worse is when they correct you because you didn't 'properly' employ their fanon assumptions in your story, as though they were facts and not a fuckin' (mass) hallucination.

Huh, I just passed 1,600 posts...

Amen, brother. I got this gem of a review for the first story I ever wrote, back in the day.

The reviewer in question is apparently a teacher, possibly the most depressing thing about it.

I think I replied informing her politely that she was wrong, and that was that.

One of my latest pet peeves is, amusingly, Peeves. The poltergeist that is. It annoys me how he's just always so damn helpful to Harry. For some reason writers never have him actually doing anything annoying, he's always distracting Umbridge or pranking a manipulative!Dumbledore. I honestly think that he's the character who is written most OOC in a lot of fics.

This is particularly prevalent in the ones where Harry is the heir of Gryyfindor, Slytherin, Hogwarts, Merlin and Chuck Norris, which doesn't really help.

Accidental Hero is awesome. It'd have to be Antithesis and Traitorous for me.

People writing "common" when they mean "come on".

I'm assuming this is some kind of corruption because some people write this as "c'mon" in dialog.

And, I hate it! It makes no fucking sense to do this if your brain is functioning at any level. GAH!

I would read this story. And the lulz would be fine indeed.

Yeah, you could ham it up like crazy or something, keep making Harry's crimes more and more ridiculously over the top...

Besides, am I the only one who finds that the word Legilimentalise is growing on them? Kind of tempted to actually use it in a story for some reason.
