I hadn't seen a thread for it so I decided hey why not. It's Diablo 2-esqe so if you liked D2 you might like this. It is also currently in Beta.

If you're interested in seeing what it looks like for yourself you can take a look at TB's video. http://youtu.be/DuPwHYlrHCA

It really is a brilliant game, especially considering it's the first produced by such a small indie developer. I've been playing quite a bit and I love it.

I'm sticking with the idea that this was the Diablo 3 we should have had. Not what we are getting from a bunch of WoW developers. The atmosphere is foreboding, the areas are dark and depressing in true diablo fashion, the combat is fluid and intense, the enemies are well designed and varied. Also, holy crap is that skill tree intimidating and at the same time amazing. I want this game.

I got into Beta awhile ago, and the first week or two of this game is great, but once you realize that the build variety isn't that great, and the game play is pretty similar no matter what build you are running, it gets a little dull.

Maybe the game got better since I was there, but no matter what I tried I was either a tank, or I developed a strategy of run/fight run/fight run/fight. The game has no real epic encounters with mobs(and I played hardcore)

    It got pretty boring.

I think some better CC and interesting skills mixed in with some decent random encounters(Instead of just engaging group by group without any real surprises) could make this game a lot better than it is.

It is however a great accomplishment from the small company, but I don't think it's going to put up much of a fight when comparing it to D3. The slot system for items is a great idea when you are at endgame and you are looking for that perfect item, but at the same time, it really limits what you want to do when you are leveling, for fear of not being able to find appropriate items for your skills.

D3 is going to be a shit load better.

Well, I played the D3 beta weekend, and immediately pre-ordered it. After playing the beta of this I cancelled that pre-order. PoE was just the far more fun game to play, been playing quite a bit and haven't even come close to getting bored of it. That and the fact that the guys behind it are constantly improving it and updating it means that player feedback actually matters. I find it all very, very impressive.

So I started off playing with a ranger and it was okay. The ranged combat feels very nice, I would like to be able to move and shoot but that can be dealt with later. The dexterity abilities are varied and make the crowd clearing a lot easier once you start mixing some of the AoE abilities and the elemental attacks. It was fun but forgettable.

That Witch on the other hand.

I am sitting at level 25, can raise an undead horde to attack my enemies and then explodes with knockback when they die, all the while I rain fire down on anything that moves. I won't say it's easy because even that style of play is still pounded by the game but I think I love their spellcasting more than anything else now.

Got to say, I do love my Minion focused Witch. Nothing quite like filling the screen with undead friends to munch through some enemies, whilst still dealing death with fire and ice. Need to keep levelling her, but I keep switching characters to try out different build ideas. The possibilities are pretty endless.

Yeah... I was wrong. D3's gameplay is far more fluid than PoE will probably ever be, but D3 has some fundamental game flaws atm. D3 might eventually get to a place of greatness, but currently I'd say PoE is a better game.

With the failure of D3, I've come back to PoE for some Hack N' Slash enjoyment.

Beta has improved since the last time I played. They've expanded the passive tree and added quite a bit more passive skills and support gems for variety. It's still got some major flaws, but the gameplay is improving. I also like their redo of the passive skill web. Classes have a greater impact on your build/playstyle.

The biggest thing however is the fact that it's a small company and the Dev's are actually quite immersed into the community. It's clear they are heading into the correct direction with patches. D3... not so much.

Anyway, the main reason for the post was to let everyone know that there is an Open Beta weekend starting in a couple days for anyone who still wants to give PoE a try for free.

Been in the beta for this for a couple days now, I'm planning on a full-length review after I reach 'max' level (here in about a week, probably) and get a feel for what it entails at the moment.

So far? I'm loving the variety of builds you can go down. Of the four (out of Six) classes I've done in depth research on you can find at least three different 'common' builds, and then a whole slew of less common/more gimmicky/amusing builds.

I enjoy how dark the world is, as much as I liked D3's art, this is more realistic and morbid, it's a vicious place you're adventuring in, and the world shows it rather well, at points, without being overdone or artsy.

Optimization is pretty good, I haven't had any issues with FPS drops or Lag.

Meh, like I said, full review here in a week or so, in the meantime, you can buy access to the beta for 10 dollars, and it is SO worth it.

This game is definitely worth the 10 dollar buyin for the beta. The cash won't be wasted since for 3 of those 10 dollars you can purchase an extra stash tab. You also get to reserve the name you want for ob+release. *coughs* InariOfRaith is taken now *whistles innocently*

Watch it on HD full screen to maximize awesomeness.

Path of Exile is going Open beta in less than two days. Meaning the last character wipe and open access for anyone who wants to sign up for an account.

If anyone wants to get in a tad earlier supporter packs are still up but will go down when Open Beta starts.

I'll be playing when I get home from campus on Wednesday evening(around 6 US Mountain). I've been enjoying the closed beta since getting a random invite around twelve days ago. Besides... Dat Skill Galaxy, or Yggdraskill, if you prefer.

I just started a marauder this weekend. He's now lvl 48 and getting his ass handed to him in Cruel Act 3.

    2H Mace using:

    Warlord's Mark
    Enduring Cry
    Leap Slam
    Decoy Totem
Glacial Hammer + Weapon Elemental Damage
Heavy Strike + Melee Physical Damage + Added Fire Damage
Ground Slam + Life on Hit + Melee Physical + Added Fire
    Blood Rage

He's at 1.3k HP with 30% Physical, 75% Fire, 27% Cold, and 47% Lightning on Cruel. His Heavy Strike hits for 1.1k DPS and Ground Slams clock 600 DPS.

This is what I have so far:

    Currently

I'm not sure where I should be trying to improve. Probably getting a few more HP nodes?

And yeah, game's fun until even a tank build gets 2-3 shot by a mob. Then it's annoying. Probably gonna make a summon Witch to farm things easy.

Hmm, looking over your build I'm a little confused on what you're prioritizing. While life is a great stat, you're passing up some really great armor nodes, and some really good resistance nodes.

Plus, you seem to have gone out of your way to grab Endurance charges and life regen nodes, while ignoring an Endurance charge node that has a secondary point that gives life regen based on charges, effectively worth at least 1%/s.

Personally I'd grab the remaining Endurance charge and the associated life regen, grab the Marauder armor nodes (they're some of the best in the tree) and grab the Increased Maximum Resistance node. If you're at maximum resistances it basically reduces the elemental damage you take by 20%.

Then, if it were me, I'd grab the all the armor nodes you have near Berserking and the Templar area and start using Granite flasks if you aren't. You can get easily 8000 armor (12000 if you have the right modifiers on your flask) during it, which is pretty absurd at 48. Plus, with Warlords Mark you should be able to keep it topped up fairly often.

Main reason I skipped all the armor nodes and that early endurance charge was to rush the Diamond skin near Duelist and Body and Soul in Templar for bonus resistances.

Having +40 Resist before gear is nice. The life regen/endurance charge one was skipped because I wanted duration bonuses since the charges weren't lasting between fights or between boss phases. The both duration boosters made them stick long enough.

I'm picking up the last endurance charge right now and getting the two +12% life nodes I missed.

    Lvl 65

That's what I had planned to have at lvl 65~. Not picking up armor because granite flask + endurance charges should be covering it until then. After that, I'll probably start investing heavily if physical still feels too painful.

Thing is, you're rushing resistance nodes while passing right by others. While Body and Soul is a great passive, from a resistance perspective it's only worth two of the Marauder nodes that you've ignored. Plus, because it's 10% in all 3 it's easy to lose some of the benefit because you've already reached cap in one area.

Which also doesn't explain passing by Elemental Adaptation, which would only be one point and would be a pretty large benefit.

Aside from that, a rare armor can only have 3 prefix and 3 suffix mods on it, and of the available suffix over a third of them are resistances. And of the available suffix, resistances would probably be the most beneficial to your spec, so planning around not having it on your gear doesn't seem optimal to me.

Of course, planning around end game doesn't help you from getting your ass whipped now, but I still feel like the points could have been better spent on nearby nodes rather than rushing far off ones.

Honestly, I think prioritizing life is far more important than armour and resists on the skill tree. Resists and are really important, but ideally you want to cap your resists with gear.

For a blood magic Marauder, 1.3k hp seems very low for act 3 cruel. For comparison, I had roughly 2.2k hp when I was in act 3 cruel on my Shadow caster. If you're having survivability problems, I think getting more life is the best way to go. In merciless, poison arrow almost one shotted me and I had 3k hp and 3k armour.

For now, I think you should grab the easy hp nodes that you're close to. There's two below blood drinker, and three above Golem's blood at the bottom of the tree. That's 52% increased maximum life added on top of the 63% you already have. It should help a lot.
