    Title: Fate/Somnium Summer
    Author: Verg Avesta
    Rating: M (I think?)
    Fandom: Fate/Stay night
    Pairing: OC/OC
    Published: October 15, 2011
    Updated: July 27, 2012
    Status: Work in Progress

Summary: Seven years after the original Holy Grail War…It starts all over again. Seven Masters and Seven Servants. All fight for the one and only Holy Grail, in the battle known as Heaven’s Paradox.

Link:Beast's lair, as it's not on FFN yet I think.

Beast's Lair produces a whole lot of shit, but this is the nugget of gold. It's written in the style of the visual novels, and there are grammatical errors, but I love the fuck out of this thing. It's frequently updated, too. 5/5.

One of my favorite things about this fic is the way the author has actually managed to keep most of the servant's identities a goddamn secret. So many FSN authors make their new servants' identities completely fucking obvious, or just straight up namedrop them because wouldn't it be zomg awesum if Leonidas from 300 was Shirou's servant guys check out this cool idea I have.

They seem to forget that half the fun of the visual novel was having no fucking idea. Saber was deliberately genderbent just to achieve that end, and an entire route (Unlimited Blade Works) was built around the identity of one servant. Keeping the cat in the bag isn't just fluff in the Nasuverse - it's a fucking requirement for quality, and every FSN author should take notes from Verg Avesta.

It doesn't hurt that Verg is also quite good at writing Nasuverse style battle and lore.

This is quite excellent and it really does remind me of the original VN with the way it is presented and its style.

I honestly have no idea why any of you think this is good. I've read through most of the prologue and the writing is horrible, the dialogue is shit too. The little bit of mystery so far is interesting enough, but that doesn't excuse the fact that it reads like it's been translated into English by an idiot.

The bit with the Brit magus was especially cringe-worthy. Take this line for instance.

    Is 'tickity-boo' even a phrase?

The writing needs to improve drastically before I'll consider reading anymore of this.

Yes it is, though I've only ever heard it spoken out loud once.
