I would love to see more political-historical dramas in the vein of HBO's ROME.

    Possible settings:

An Shi Rebellion in Tang Dynasty China.

    Peloponnesian War.

    Something set in British India.

It's going to be generic summer blockbuster bullshit.

Actually, you know which MMO would've made for a better generic summer blockbuster than Warcraft? City of Heroes. The Freedom Phalanx were straight up imitations of the Avengers and the Justice League, and that's what makes it so perfect. A studio could easily use Statesman, Synapse, Positron and Mynx to tell whichever terrible Superman, Flash, Iron Man and Wolverine story they have in mind, without having to pay DC and Marvel billions.

And as a bonus, maybe we wouldn't have to suffer though Batman v Superman.

Worm would do better as an animated series, I think. Aside from the problem of hiring decent child actors for the Undersiders, you'd also have to have an unreasonably huge budget to get all the powers on screen. Legend alone would be worth a small movie's worth of special effects.

Six episode mini-series done twice a year, IMO.

I doubt anybody else even knows about this one, but I'd like to see something on Raymond E Feist's Riftwar series, which is the series that got me into fantasy.

I'd also like to see Gene Wolfe's The Wizard Knight series done by a trippy filmmaker like Darren Aronofsky, Terry Gilliam, or preferably, Darren Aronofsky AND Terry Gilliam.

There's also Mike Carey's Felix Castor series, which ain't never happening, but I'd love to see it.

And finally, there's Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, which should've been adapted twenty years ago.

    1. I would weep tears of joy if HBO, FX or AMC did a one or two season The Lies of Locke Lamora (and not the rest of the series).

    EDIT:

    2. Sembia: Gateway to the Realms as a TV show would be cool. And/or a tv show that followed Eerevis Cale's... adventures.

    3. A Series of Unfortunate Events tv show done well would make my childhood.

    4. Also, seconding the Dragonlance Chronicles/Legends.

Let's all agree on one thing...if it is a TV show for adults...HBO should make it. Now that said...

    1. Shannara Series by Terry Brooks.

    2. Alternate History

    3. Teen Titans...live action movies. Let Marvel use the big name adult heroes. Start out with a Dick Grayson movie of him coming into his own as Nightwing which leads to the Titans.

    4. Agreeing to the Dragonlance. Get a good movie trilogy, then have a spinoff on the Brother's Majere.

    5. Knights of the Old Republic. They've shit on player choices already. So just do a badass Revan film. Or Darth Bane series. I would be fine with that too.

I know that there has already been talk of this, but if a Suicide Squad movie was made that would be awesome.

I would also love to see The Kingkiller Chronicles get the HBO treatment even though (correct me if I'm wrong) FX currently has the rights to the series.

    1. God of War

    2. Halo

Dresden Files of course, and yes, a Warcraft that didn't suck would be fantastic.

The Riftwar and Castor series could be awesome. Or if not the Riftwar the Serpent War Saga. The Magician would make an excellent miniseries all on its own.

I'd also like to see John le Carre's Smiley books turned into tv movies or a miniseries like the miniseries The Company (follows the CIA during the Cold War).

Robert Crais' Cole and Pike series could be an awesome tv series, though I think he said they'd never be adapted.

I'd also like the City Watch Discworld books to be adapted to TV. There have been some adaptations done of Hogfather, Going Postal and a couple others, but none have focused on Vimes and the Watch. Secondary to that would be some focusing on the Witches. Lords and Ladies in particular would be amazing to watch.

    Discworld.

    Grossman's Magicians.

Rothfuss's Name of the Wind series (once he finishes).

Never ever going to happen. But a man can dream.

I could see them making a TV show out of some of the smaller more focused WH40k properties. A rouge trader or Dark Heresy series done to even doctor who standards would be great.

Are we just listing pipe dreams? Because I have a few of those:

    1. "The Black Company" TV show adaptation that would at least cover up the first three books; in truth I have no wish to see anything beyond the first three, but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

    2. "Book of the New Sun" or "Latro" (Mist, Arete and Sidon) being adapted into a TV series; this will naturally never happen as they would prove near impossible to adapt properly without changing too much of the source material

    3. Eisenhorn (Warhammer 40k novel) adapted as a film trilogy; the Triumph alone would bankrupt the people financing the film

    4. "God Emperor of Dune"

    5. "The Caves of Steel", "The Naked Sun", "The Robots of Dawn", "Robots and Empire" and the "Prelude to Foundation"

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Mirroring some others, I'd love to see another go at a Dresden Files show. Unlike others, I'm going to deviate from the HBO idea and say the BBC should do it. See: Sherlock and Orphan Black.

Makes me wonder about a certain What If.

What if instead of being adapted into theatrical movies, the Harry Potter series was instead made into a HBO (or BBC) drama.

Think about it, it would be great, they could fit in a lot more stuff from the books and make it more faithful.

The Mistborn trilogy could be interesting, but I think they fit better on the big screen. I mean, the first one is essentially a heist film, but with a Big Bad at the end.

The HP books are unsuited for TV adaptation. A "Hogwarts High" teen drama, on the other hand...
