    Title: The Anatomist
    Author: rosa acicularis
    Rating: M
    Genre: Drama
    Status: Complete
Fandom: Sherlock (The recent BBC one)
    Pairings: None
The relationship between Jim and Molly is definitely, disturbingly hinted at in this context, at times, but it's not a "Pairing" in my mind.
Summary: "When they are children, Moriarty is a game. A story they tell only to each other, in whispers." Jim and Molly Moriarty, from the beginning.

The FFN link only has the first two chapters for whatever reason. The full version can be found here: http://rosa-acicularis.livejournal.com/30916.html

Length: Feels like about 30-40K words. Novella length. Reads fast.

So, the premise for this one is basically "What if Molly (that medical examiner you'll remember as being daffy and kind of crushing on Sherlock on the show) was Moriarty's twin sister, and every bit as screwed up as he was, but in a slightly different way?"

The writing is very, very solid. This is the kind of writing I can really get into - it's paced within an inch of its life, and you could cut the tension with a knife (that was an unfortunate rhyme), but it's very understated, very cool and collected. Stories like this, where all the pieces fit together, where the events make sense, but you can't easily predict them, are a real treat.

You'll feel mildly-to-majorly disturbed throughout the entire thing. You won't really know what you're rooting for to happen in the end. I can't be too much more specific without giving away plot points.

The only blemish, for me, was the end. There was one bit that felt a bit contrived, but only because the rest of it was so seamless.

Read it if you're a fan of any/all of the following:

    1) Sherlock Holmes
    2) The BBC One version of Sherlock Holmes
    3) Clean, crisp writing in present tense that moves smoothly in time and space
    4) Psychological thrillers

I found this to be pretty gripping all the way through. The author has a vice-like grip on the tone and the characters. The blemish at the end isn't enough for me to ding this down a full point, so this is a pretty easy 5/5 for me.

Oh, yeah, if you do give it a go, one thing that confused me at first were the numbers that are used as scene breaks. Took me a bit to pick up on the fact that they're Molly's current age at the time of the scene.

    Very impressive. 5/5 for sure.

One thing to note is that it's only based on the first season, so there are some obvious inconsistencies with later ones.

Newcomb, your post says it's complete, but I can only find 3 out of the four chapters on the Livejournal link. I want to finish reading, assuming it's fully completed, before leaving a review, but as of now it is probably the best Sherlock fic I've read. Very easy 5/5

    That's weird. Here, I'll link all 4:

    Chapter 1
    Chapter 2
    Chapter 3
    Chapter 4

For some reason, on chapter 3, hitting the + Right button on the top links you something else. If you scroll to the bottom of the chapter there's a link to chapter 4.

Its sad this has so few replies or reviews. A friend just asked me what I loved about fanfiction, and this was the one I linked them, which came to mind. It's an example of how you can know nothing about the setting, but love it for the genre. Highly recommended - again!
