So sum assholez were all 'Oh, hey Vlad, check out all the Dresden/Molly you missed in the past years.' And they linked, and I read. And there... was not enough. Never enough.

So here's the basic idea. I'm treating this more as a plot bunny for now because it's been so long since I've read the heart of the series that my head-space continuity is fucked. Serious refresh of canon is required. Just want to get a feel for the basic idea. So throw out any thoughts or ideas. ANY AT ALL.

Harry wakes up with a crick in his neck and back - fell asleep on the floor of the kitchen, apparently - with Molly hovering over him looking completely terrified and also looking a complete mess. Harry's head is all fuzzy and his throat feels like complete ass. Been awhile since I woke up like this..., Oh hey Molls, sup?

Molly explains the dealz/Harry pieces it together:
    - Molly woke up in some random place downtown where Molly might be.
    - Everything is completely silent. Freaks out, heads home. Traffic is just stopped in the roads, people are lying in the street. Everyone is DEAD!
    - Good news, everyone is NOT dead! Bad news, everyone is asleep. Tries to wake family up.

So at this point, you came to see yours truly to see if I could fix it, Harry quips, more in nervousness than any arrogance but Molly is all err... not exactly <_<. Typical Dresden angst as the head fuzzies start to lift and he realizes just how terrified and upset Molly is.

    - Molly has been up for three days trying to wake fam. Came to Harry now because she had no luck and is on her last legs herself, and terrified that she will fall asleep and not wake up again. TV and Radio don't work, no idea how much time she herself was out of it the first time.

Harry is all Oo. Okay, game plan: you gotta sleep. No way around that. You're beat. Don't worry, I promise I will wake you up like you woke me if it comes to that (knowing he might not be able to keep that promise). She stumbles into Dresden's room.

Harry's got some detective work to do. Goes outside: BOY was it a good thing this mojo happened just as he'd gotten home and not before had set the home protections, or Molly woulda been shit outa luck. Yep, everything eerily quiet. Creepy. Grit on the ground everywhere - guess that's what happens when there's no trash pickup. (THIS R ACTUALLY SUPER BRILLIANT FORESHADOWINGZ! DUN. DUN. DUN.)

Goes back in. Call Murphy, Thomas, doesn't really expect an answer and gets none. Sees Mister/Mouse sleeping, finds it more creepy than comforting.

Goes to see Bob. Bob also is AWOL. Starts to panic a bit - if magic is affected... oh shit - tries spell, spell works, feels a bit better.

Ok, so magic works. Tries to summon Toot... no good. Idea! Make two circles - outside one to keep the bad mojo out, inside one for summoning. Excellent - it works, but before he can summon Toot, Leanansidhe appears inside summoning circle.

Gives him the schoop. Sandman is real, and big and scary and cthulhu-esque and has bad plans that include the entire Chicago population. Nobody quite sure what, exactly. Outside world is being told it's a biological attack/disease/quarantine order.

Lea offers to make Harry a deal, but he is quick enough to figure out that she offered so much information for free that clearly, Mab wants this dealt with as well. Lea not entirely amused with his astuteness.

From here, we have Harry and Molly traversing a nightmare version of Chicago looking for a giant monster that wants to do horrible things to people in their sleep and killing it.

    Notes:

    1. Circle within circle cannot be used to wake up people, because reasons. Probably because they are already infected even if brought into the inner circle.

    2. White Council can't get into Chicago because they have no arrival point that isn't affected. Harry could make his double circle and leave Chicago, but would have no way to get back. Harry being Harry of course opts to stay and solve problem.

    3. How Molly and Harry wake up, I am note entirely sure. Perhaps Molly's mind majix give her some sort of natural immunity that take awhile to kick in? Maybe she actually uses some sort of mojo that affects Dresden but nobody else. Maybe nobody will give a shit and just accept the conceit if it means another Harry/Molly story on ffnet?

    4. Yes, at some point it will be Harry/Molly, that being the whole point of this exercise. In my head at some point they realize that they are now immune to falling back into total oblivion!sleep (or Harry makes/remakes a giant circle around the bedroom or something) and then Molly can be like. Harry, I'm still scarrrrrrrred. I dun wanna be alone <_<. Or what have you.

    5. Yeah, how you like that, Ramirez? You were real useful, being inaccessible on the other side of the country while giant shitstorm went down. Don't worry though, Molly r fine.

I would read this. Because, as you say, there's just never enough Dresden/Molly.

So set before Turn Coat at peak Dresden? I'd read it. As a contrivance why Harry and Molly are the only ones awake maybe the lingering black magic corruption partially shields them. Since Molly's was mental it was enough to keep her up, while Dresden's is only enough to let him wake up. That also lets you avoid having them wake anyone else up. If Dresden knew of any other warlocks he'd have dealt with them one way or another so he has no option but to fight instead of trying to wake up as many people as possible so they can escape.

Fraid not - don't watch teh Who.

I just googled mythological beings until I came across the wikipedia picture of the sandman which looked so ridiculous I figured, there's gotta be some unspeakable evil hiding underneath...

    This is my favorite part.

Okay, that's a lie. It's my second favorite part. Favorite is the Harry/Molly.

Still, lolz at rubbing Ramirez's face in it.

If you're going with pre-Turn Coat, just remember that Harry is still having trouble thinking of Molly as an adult, so he'll have to witness some serious maturity on her part.

As for why they were able to wake up... I don't know. Tradition states that the sandman sprinkles sand in your eyes, right?

What if this wasn't just a metaphor? What if he does something that affects the 'third eye'... maybe Molly was practicing using her Sight, and Saw right through the Sandman's enchantment? This could be one of the signs Dresden's been subconsciously waiting for, to know that she has matured into an adult.

To be completely fair to Ramirez, not his fault there are so many heretics who deny the glorious OTP. And Ramirez shippers are still leagues above Dresden/Marcone infidels (may they perish painfully).

Course, if there is one verse where fairness need never come into play, it's Dresden.

First off... Nice initiative. As you say, there is nowhere near enough Dresden/Molly. There have been a few stalwart champion's parading flag of the OTP but lately, barely anything.

    Obviously not okay!

I'd really like to read this idea of yours. Question is... How do we get sit rolling again on the large scale? The heretics need to be shown the light, after all.

As for the enchantments. Subtle enough workings can seep in through thresholds and, presumably, magic circles. If the practitioner is good enough. Alternatively, Outsider magic doesn't quite follow the same rules.

Why not post Cold Days or a Cold Days era AU? By then, Harry will have already come to recognize Molly as an adult in Ghost Story and that a lot of his arguments for not being in a relationship with her don't apply as much as he thought they did.

If this is still pre - Turn Coat, you'd have to go through some similar epiphanies here I think for him to take seriously the possibility of him and Molly getting together, even if he acknowledges that she's quickly approaching White Council caliber.

Maybe consider having the Sandman specifically exclude Dresden, Molly and maybe 2-4 others in the city as part of a grand plan.

I'm thinking like Supernatural when Yellow-eyes brings the right or so guys and gals to that ghost-town in a battle royal to decide who will be Lucifer's general.

Instead have; Molly, Harry, North and a few other practitioners alive in Chicago. They're informed of the rules of the game. Kill or be killed. Or in order I coerce the likes of Dresden and Molly, play the game or all of Chicago dies.

This sets up all sorts of interesting battles, reactions and general fun shenanigans.

Not sure if this is best plot bunny for Dresden/Molly. Seems more short story of a previous case, and not the best. Sorry vlad but I have to overrule you. This plot ideas are vague bunnies that may hopefully attack an author to force out great Dresden content. We do not have nearly enough.

Plot 1- Orphaned at 6 and cast into the foster system, Harry Dresden learns from the School of Hard Knocks. Nobody will look after him except himself. His life gets further complicated by his budding magic, faeire godmother, and that asshole Morgan who brings him bound before a group of old men who are bent on telling him what to do.

How would Harry Dresden grow up without Justin DuMorne or Elaine?

Plot 2- Molly is left alone while Harry is out of town on Warden business. However an urgent matter forces her to solve her first solo case.

Post-White Night tale of the growth of Molly Carpenter, apprentice of the infamous Dresden. How would she deal with being cast into Dresden's shoes?

Plot 3- He knows its morally wrong. She's almost half his age, his own apprentice, and his friend's eldest daughter to boot. She's also young, beautiful, courageous, and been through more crazy shit with him than any other female.

Harry Dresden/Molly Carpenter done right. Post Dead Beat AU telling of the growing relationship between an adult Molly and her boss.

---------- Post automerged at 01:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 PM ----------

Plot 4- He was not prepared for this. Why didn't she tell him? How could she do that? Why did she have to die? How would Harry deal with raising his daughter Maggie when Susan dies on a St Giles mission. She's a vulnerability, she's his blood. His enemies (and even allies) would be thrilled at such an opportunity. Between the corruptive influence of a shadow of a fallen angel, the Vampire Courts, manipulative Faerie Queens, and his "allies" of the White Council he has quite the challenge to keep her safe. He must rise up like never before to the occasion. For its not his own life or an innocent's on the line.

Harry was willing to go to extreme lengths to protect a daughter he didn't even know in Changes. How far would Papa Dresden rise, how far would he go to protect the daughter he raised personally? Post Death Masks AU

Plot 5- She's manipulative, ruthlessly amoral, seductive, dangerously, intelligent, deadly, and exists only in his head. Dresden's head gets more cramped when the shadow of the Fallen Angel Lasciel moves in.

We need more Lash. Give a Post Death Masks AU of how Dresden deals with his own personal fallen angel on his shoulder.
