Here is my recommendation of Nodame Cantabile. This is the review I left on myanimelist.

Watch it if you haven't. It also has a sequel with a 13(?) episodes and a finale special thing. I'm halfway in the sequel right now.

Nodame trilogy gets pretty sappy toward the end. Stops being mainly about the music and turns into shojo romance. If you can tolerate that, I think you'll find the series satisfying on the whole.

Mm, hardly. The second season is still mainly about music and Chiaki's career, though you're almost right regarding the third season. There's definitely a more pronounced tilt toward the social side of things, and the worst part, for me, is the shift of focus towards Nodame as protagonist.

I swear to god, every third word out of her stupid mouth is 'gyabon' or 'mukya'. It was a sort of cute character trait when done sparingly, like in the first season, but when it's spammed so much, it becomes incredibly obnoxious and throws Nodame straight down the stereotypical retard protagonist hole.

Still, there's solid pacing and plot progress all the while.

I don't know if anyone else is watching Orange, but holy shit, the art quality.

In a single episode the quality of the animation dropped so hard that I considered just not watching, and this is coming from someone who generally doesn't give a shit about the art in anime. It was literally distracting me from the story.

Anyone else notice, or am I imagining things? Cause it seemed awful. D:

I was watching the new Orange today and checking DLP at the same time, but now that I've read that its true. The character design was never really original, but it usually had good clean lines and shading that were missing from this episode. What happened?

Also I watched Haikyuu recently and had a lot of fun, its a pretty typical sports series but done very well.

If you want amazing art, you're better off watching Mob Psycho 100, believe me.

Watch Mob Psycho 100 is what I'm saying.

Eh, I'm sure its good but after watching One Punch Man I feel like I know exactly what I'll get from it. Ill save it and use it for when I feel like getting some popcorn and watching some shounen.

Sorry to double post but I have an update. Started watching Mob Psycho 100 because i was on the mood for some light fun. It starts off a little bit slow but its actually not that much like OPM. Its a bit less of a straightforward deconstruction, and it feels like it has a bit more to say.

The show manages the humor in a similar way to OPM, but with a little bit of extra tongue-in-cheek. And the animation has taken another step forward, using psychic powers as a vessel to move into new areas of beautiful artwork. The opening in particular is a visual feast that I always enjoy watching. I just watched the episode where Mob fights Teru and its so good. The visual humor of his hair, the way Mob's figure is distorted towards the end, the buildup of Mob's psycho counter thats then subverted with the emotion he releases.

Suffice to say I like this show. Thanks for the rec.

Holy crap, Re:Zero.. All that work all gone for nothing.

It's like playing Dark Souls and having 500k souls and just losing it...

One Old and One New, a thread for anime recommendations

So I'm a lover of all things anime. Anyways, I feel like this would be a good way to share some anime tastes. So basically as the title says list One Old anime show and One New anime show that you particularly like or find interesting or feel like more people should watch it.

Fate/Stay Night (relatively speaking it really isn't that old) I believe it aired in 2006. If you haven't touched it, I'd recommend checking it out. Technically, I'm just now getting around to watching Fate/Stay Zero, but I wanted to watch this show in the order that it had originally aired. I wanted to do this so that I could get the same feelings or be showed the same surprises that the creators of the show had intended for the viewers of show. Genres include: Fantasy, Magic, Supernatural, Action, and Romance.

Alderamin on the Sky (It just started airing in July 2016.) I guess its first season is going to end this coming Friday if I'm not mistaken; as it was a Summer Anime and this Friday airs the 13th episode. It's a war/military, fantasy anime. I love the strategy, and way the show is portraying the war. It has been awhile since I have been last really excited about a war based anime show.

Oops, I didn't actually see that thread until after I had posted mine. Plus, I keep glancing over my shoulder trying not to necro-post on accident. I saw one for manga, one for books, one specifically about one piece, but somehow missed the one about anime. *Owner is sorry.*

Don't worry about it; I've merged it into the anime recs thread.

Regarding necro-posting, so long as you have something of substance and on topic to say (your anime rec post is a good example), then it's fine.

Edit: I ended up watching Alderamin based on your recommendation and posted my thoughts over here: Summer 2016 Anime Season

Can anyone out there recommend me some good yuri anime?

There seems to be an awful lot of yuri-baiting shows that only tease it and never go any further; the girls in question then proceed to suddenly fall for bland male characters that they barely interacted with and were never shown to like.

For example, I'ave been watching current anime that I thought was yuri. I just found out that the anime is based on a series of novels and all of the yuri was added in to the anime. The main character apparently ends up with the childhood friend she barely interacts with at all in the anime (he has a crush on her. but she has never shown any sign of liking him and turned him down when he asked her out). This pisses me off so much considering all of the focus the progression of her friendship with a female classmate has gotten compared to the the male characters minute screen-time.

Apparently what I thought was a burgeoning yuri relationship was actually nothing but yuri bait. The male character's role was a lot bigger in the the books and his relationship with the main character was more pronounced. The anime cut all of his scenes and replaced them with the two female characters increasing intimacy.

The yuri was the reason I stayed with the show. I didn't know there would be yuri when I started it, but the relationship ended up by far being the best thing about the show. The plot is nothing special but I cared the characters' relationship.

I have to drop this show. I can't watch the show the same anymore knowing in all likelihood it will follow the books and that I've invested in these two girls' relationship for nothing. Hopefully one day I'll hear they didn't follow the books and the girls got together. On that day I'll continue watching.

For once I just want an actual yuri show where its not just teasing and actually goes somewhere.

Are there any such shows out there? Or is it all just bait?

I think you're looking for porn there buddy. Anime is usually shown on TV in Japan, so you wont find many actual lesbians hooking up in mainstream Anime.

Im sure you'll find loads of hentai with just a cursory search though.

Edit: There are yuri anime though, I'm just kidding. sorry I dont know any.

I heard Sakura Trick was good? I'm not interested in yuri myself, so I don't know much others.
