Just a thread with on going plots meddled in authors heads.

Mine? Not sure if this is done before, but the connection between Naruto and the Kyuubi screws up, resulting in their minds to link. Problem? The Kyuubi is starting to fade and Naruto is undergoing a change.

I have quite a few at the moment actually. The one that most has my interest is a genjutsu!naruto. Kitsune of japanese folklore where supposed to be tricksters and illusionists if I recall correctly, so instead of insane chakra he'd get something of an affinity for illusions. I'm tired of seeing all power and no finesse in Naruto, he's a freaking ninja, not a heavy artillery unit.

    LIES! Heavy Artillery Unit FFTW!

Yeah that would be nice to see and read however it has been attempted but none of them were very good, read sucked horribly.
Though I wonder how a F/SN crossover would work out... not very well now that I think about it some more.

Bah, Genjutsu is just usually very boring to read as its a slow art. It doesn't bring the pleasures of battle like Ninjutsu and Taijustu.

Pah! Genjutsu!Naruto has so much to offer! It's just that, as Mercenary said, it's always totally botched by the authors attempting it.

Someone has yet to really flesh out the theory behind it:
workings of the chakra, weaknesses, strengths, limitations, different branches, etc etc etc.

    Examples:
You never really get to know the differences and advantages of the different genjutsu types. Hearing, seeing, smelling...it's always the same.

Genjutsu is for some reason never really bound to any limitations. It always just needs 'good control'.
Amount of Chakra, long hand seal sequences, strain on the body/mind and certain prerequisites (i.e. consumption of special drugs, blood sacrifice) are never an issue.
No matter how strong and advanced the illusion, you can just do it...that's lame and adds to it being overpowered.

Strenghts and weaknesses are never clearly defined. For genjutsu the most important things are how to capture someone and how to break out of it.
As it stands, a simple 'Kai' will get you out of any shit, no matter how strong.
Likewise, people are just caught in them in an instant with no chance of avoiding them.
So again no limitations and no clear differences between strong and weak illusions.

Sure, if it's like that it gets quite boring to read a genjutsu fight. But that shouldn't be a surprise when the author tries to come up with some 'cool' genjutsu that ends the whole thing in one go.

I have also yet to see at least some sort of progress while Naruto learns it. It always starts with the big ones. There is never something absurd like beginner level genjutsu.

It's the same as if every academy student has to start with throwing giant fireballs or water dragons around instead of simple shit like bunshin and kawarimi.

So it's no miracle that genjutsu becomes a pain to read with an incomplete theory like that behind it.

Sure, it'd take time for a good author to go into all of those points and it definitely wouldn't be a fast-paced story, but that way you'd get a quality fic with enjoyable fights.

And I like the idea about Kyuubi giving Naruto an affinity for it. It'd solve some of the major control issues Naruto has and would give the Kyuubi an area of expertise (like Ichibi's sand affinity).

To all enemies of genjutsu!Naruto: Hopefully, you'll all get eye cancer from reading this

*sigh* ... ... I always get so passionate when it comes to defending genjutsu.

I think genjutsu is an assassination or diversion technique. As li.u said, a simple "Kai" will get you out of pretty much all techniques. So to prevent that, either kill the target quickly or get your ass out of there before they find out its just an illusion. With this viewpoint, I can see why theres not a lot of good genjutsu!Naruto.

That may be true but i disagree with the simple Kai part. Itachi is a gen master. Getting out his techniques is like trying to go through a wall. Unless he lets you go through a wall.

I think that genjutsu is a very subtle and rarly used because of the increadiable disclipine one needs to utalitze the pottential of a jutsu.

All it needs is a strong and discapline mind and even a group would be messed up. Hell, if naruto were to learn some of those techniques, no doubt, he would think of some pervarted shit to drown the enimes with naked women until they die of blood loss from a nose bleed.

The huge problem with that is canon Naruto theory is amazingly fucked up. The ranking system is awful, there's never really a good explanation of the inner workings of chakra, nobody knows what does what... You get the idea. However, if Surarrin sits down and composes a working, solid genjutsu theory, it would be amazing. I'd probably ritually sacrifice every puppy at the nearest Animal Control center in the name of Surarrin the Great.

Yeah, well...that's what I'm saying. The canon genjutsu theory is pretty useless but that's mostly due to its state of incompleteness.

They tell you only the tiniest bit and frankly, that's enough for canon. A story where almost every ninja is specialized in either nin- or taijutsu has no need for an intricate genjutsu theory.

Still, you can't hope to pull off a decent genjutsu!Naruto with just that scrap of knowledge. Most authors fail to realize that and it ends in an amazing pile of written shit.

Nonetheless, I'm still hoping to see at least one good genjutsu centered Naruto in my lifetime. So naturally, any author who is willing to at least try a decent genjutsu fic has my blessing.

Yeah, I'll take up this challenge. My other story has already lost too much steam anyway.

    Off to start planning.

This is an interesting idea, however, Sasori of the Red Sands was unique, because he was the only one who could make people into puppets with all abilities intact. Insofar as we know, the Sand is the only village which uses puppets, so unless the story involves Naruto going to the sand and being raised by Sasori, there is almost no chance of this idea being realistically doable.

meh it's not to hard to create a storyline line where Naruto goes to the sand when he is a child. Also there are a good amount of fics that have Naruto going to the sand and being raised by Sasori well don't good authors know how to make a bit of off cannon stuff to suit their purposes

Thing is...Sasori would probably just want to make Naruto into a puppet himself. Demonic chakra and all that.
