I really like Percy Jackson and I can hardly find any good fanfics. Most are terrible. Annabeth cheats on Percy in like half of them. Do you guys have any recommendations?

I know Son of the Western Sea is a good one.

The only good PJO fics I can think of are Ryuugi's, though they're all crossovers.

Post-Chapter 15 or so of Starblade's Everlasting Promises was good. The earlier chapters... not so much.

Shame he appears to have abandoned it.

This is not a perfect story: there are some plot points that were beyond belief. But if you don't mind a stronger-than-canon!Percy, then you could give it a try.

Honestly, I wouldn't read it once more (already read it twice, years ago), but I think it was well-written and full of action. After reading canon, reading this satisfied a part of me that needed to see a highly capable Percy.

There is also Champion of the Sun, Trials of the Sea and Harbingers by Avarianus. This stories feature a Percy who is champion of Apollo from a young age. This series has a surprisingly complex plot, and it is also well-written. And lots of actions. Romance didn't ruin the story too.

I'm trying to read The Blood of Olympus: A Heroes of Olympus Fanfiction at the moment. The beginning is average, but it was said that after the beginning chapters it will get better. We shall see.

Indeed, he didn't always seem the healthiest in terms of mental state. He also got into that huge spat with his beta and I don't think that helped. He definitely started Chapter 19, though, if that excerpt is anything to go by. But he hasn't been on his Twitter in over a year now so Shrug.

Yeah, hoping everything is well with him.

I actually tweeted at him one and he responded, it was something about league of legends so I assume he plays. This could be him and I might go on and add that to see if it is. Just to make sure he is alright.

Yeah that might be a good idea. I should try that too. And he probably plays League, if the people he follows are any indication.

In any case, if that really is him, at least he's still alive and presumably doing well enough to play league. I believe he should be in college now, so that may explain the lack of updates.

Yup! I just talked to him today. He said he was fine and all and thanked me for asking about him. As he said:

"it's been like years since I've touched Twitter, heh."

"Just had to transition to college and I have so little time now.
Perhaps one day I'll pick it up again and update lol. I think my next one would have been chapter 20 lol. Probably end up at over 100K words for that chapter if I had continued. And I'm not that much into it, but I've always had random thoughts about it in the back of my mind. Especially in my showers lol"

I know what you mean about PJO fanfiction. Many of them have very interesting premises that are ruined by frankly terrible writing. That or writing that appeals to children which is what you're going to get when the famdom has such a young demographic. But to the fics.

If you want good Percy stories, you'd be best to browse slice of life stories over epics. Concrete Angel is a good enough one though it doesn't deal with the mythical aspects at all, just the characters.

As far as the powered-up-Percy stories, which litter the fanfiction page, two that I've seen with decent writing are The Last Spartan and Purgatory. They're my guilty pleasure stories concerning an OP Percy, solely because of okay writing.

Otherwise, I suggest you expand into the Heroes of Olympus series since they have their own interesting cast. However, I typically browse by pairings for these so I don't know any good epics. Firsts is a good Calypso/Leo fic. Though not canon, Reyna/Leo fics are universally pretty good and Obviously has an interesting plot.

Finally, a good PJO oneshot author is HecateA who updates rather frequently.

It's really difficult to wade through a sea of terrible and mediocre PJO fanfics, but beyond the classic Pertemis and "Percy is the son of ___" stories are some gems. I'm still trying to find them myself.

Reviving thread because I'm genuinely curious...

Someone go read Gambit's Refrain by paradoxed and then tell me if it's potentially the best Percy/Artemis or I'm just a sucker for angst.

Is this supposed to be a a paired fic with Reprise? How am I supposed to read it?

    Just read Refrain.

Reprise was apparently supposed to be basically Refrain from Percy's POV, but it isn't complete yet so...

It's pretty good. I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable about all the Roman books so some of that went over my head.

It felt a bit contrived for the first man who showed generally decency was the one to thaw Artemis. The characters felt pretty sound otherwise. I enjoyed reading the story. I liked that Artemis chose the path she did. It felt better than a lot of the other fics I've read in this fandom.

I'd say it's worth putting into the library honestly.

I just read refrain...damn! Must be the first genuinely good PJO fanfic I have ever read...guilty pleasure sure, but this!..Just wow. Props to the author for writing it to be somewhat realistic, concise, emotional, and original..Very rare and exactly what this fandom needs.

To be frank, I think it's a pretty damn good story; inspired me to revisit and produce my own PJO ideas from some time ago.

There are parts that I'd definitely argue require suspension of disbelief (Annabeth stabbing in chapter four), but the idea of a goddess turned mortal + the execution of said idea sells it well.

The little details added to the story add a lot of flair and depth to the story too.

I mean, whimsy on the wit of the words doesn't exist as a book I don't think, so the beginning of chapter five is pretty darn impressive.
