I see fics where James is a playboy but all everyone ever talked about in canon was his love for Lily.

    So...

    What do you think?

Unlike Harry, i think that James probs would have pulled some chick into a cuboard and had a happy time with her.

Given that Harry had been made to live in a cupboard since he was very young, his reluctance was understandable.

It would be highly unlikely that anyone in canon would turn around and say to Harry, an orphan who doesn't remember his parents:

"You dad loved your mum. Course, 5th year he shagged Elizabeth Abbott behind the greenhouses."

This is one of those situations where you can't take the absence of canon as proof of anything, kinda like 99% of the history, culture, and relationships of the HP-verse, as it's all limited to the point of view of a largely ignorant teenage boy...

I dont think so, it seem like the wizarding worlds custom to wait till marriage, Harry/ Ginny, Ron/Herm. Cannon said he was in love with lily since he was young. I would be surprised if he has a girlfriend other than lily.

Actually, Fred, George and Fleur have been implied to be sexually active before marriage, and Ginny had two boyfriends before Harry.

    Well yeah, the french

Don't recall anything in canon really suggesting any of that though - except maybe some logical connection betwern Fleur and Bill once they were affianced?

And for all the annoyance that is Ginny, there is nothing at all to suggest she's particularly promiscuous. She wrote a few letters and probably had a few trips to Hogsmeade, and a bit of snogging with two boys over her fourth and chunk of fifth year. Whew.

It could just be, sheltered as Harry is, he's just never aware of sex (or even snogging/semi-sexual behavior) in his immediate periphery. I'm certain someone got around to explaining the 'Birds & The Bees' bit to Harry (maybe Sirius, likely Lupin, funniest would be the Twins) before his sixth year, but Rowling never wrote a thing about it because it (and romance in general) isn't really in her wheelhouse as a writer. Hell, there aren't many writers, fanfic or professional, who can really nail down both the awkward and the honesty a scene like that would take - I'd say Stephen King nails the "cringe" factor in a few of his books with young protagonists.

Well Fleur is French so they are more open minded about that type of thing. They also had little sex education at Hogwarts. In the Bible Belts of the states teenage pregency is up due to not having this class available. So I could buy James sleeping with someone before Lily came into the picture. They're hormonal teenagers that are away from their parents and have access to many unsupervised locations within Hogwarts.

Nah, everyone leaves Hogwarts a virgin. It's a wholesome and pure relationship before that.

The only love the students have is for Lady Hogwarts. With her they share a magic beyond all we do.

Considering the age group of the readers, there is definitely no sex happening. The most is heavy "snogging" or parents would be up in arms about it.

There probably is offscreen sex happening.

Girls can get into boys' dorms and there's no adult supervision in Common Rooms. That's just asking for sex to happen.

There's also this prevalent theme of "abandoned classrooms" around the school.

    And of course the RoR.

Teenagers + secluded places + no supervision = Probably lots of sex.

I wasn't talking about the French thing, but rather specific passages in the books where sex is pretty heavily implied.

In GoF Fleur and Roger Davies were seen to have left for gardens for some privacy and same for Fred and George and the veela cousins in DH during the wedding.

I don't see why anyone would be considered promiscuous for being sexually active with their partner.
The only active argument against Ginny being sexually active I can think of is her relatively young age when she had the two boyfriends before she got with Harry. But then again there are people who start early(ier) and there's no way to really say either way.

There are MANY allusions to students having sex in the series, and nothing to suggest that Harry isn't aware of it. Rowling just didn't write about it, for pretty obvious reasons, and I think the books are better for it (and would've been better without romantic drama as a whole).

Because wizarding culture seems to have stagnated a while ago? It would be understandable if their values, including on the topic of sexuality, were also what modern society would consider conservative.

Yeah... Your views seem to be influenced more by fanon rather than what actually happens in the books and before you bring about the 'pureblood suppressing the muggleborns' argument or variations of the same, that has been called out as racist behavior even in the wizarding society which has parallels in our own.

And if the views on sexuality were really as conservative as you believe then there wouldn't be any pre-marriage romantic relationships at all in the books.

Attitudes toward sex have a lot to do with the risk of pregnancy and STIs. Contraception is probably pretty easy with magic, but we don't know whether disease is still an issue.
