Do you think if Lily had loved Snape, he could have been saved? I think he would have a changed for Lily and wouldn't become a Death Eater.

    *grabs popcorn*

You're not from around here are ya, sonny?

(Just FYI might want to lurk more before asking questions. This site can get brutal)

    To answer the question:
It depends on -when- Lily started loving snake that would effect the character

Lily can't deal with Snape's greasiness, and in his anger he turns to Voldemort and the Death Eaters in the hopes that they can help him develop magical prescription-strength shampoo.

Well, his 'love' for her didn't stop him at least dismissing the victimisation of other Muggleborns as jokes, so...I'm going to say no.

I believe JKR said Snape thought Lily would be impressed by him joining the Death Eaters. So no.

Fo real? I thought Snape was supposed to be smart? This makes not any kind of sense not only did Lily seem to hate dark magic but it should not even be a question why she would have anything against their cause.

Jk again showing that she can't write a logical/intelligent character to save her life.

In what point do you think Lily actually loved Snape, he was freaking creepy from the get go.
So he was her neighbor and somewhat friendly with her, but as time in Hogwarts progressed, you could easily see who is friends are.

I mean, if loving her and wanting to be with her didn't spur him to be a better person and someone who she could see herself with, why having her would change anything? If anything, it would make him paranoid about losing her and make him double down on his shitness. Surprise, surprise, obsessed people don't really develop healthy habits.

All the people who say DLP is brutal are wrong. We've collectively mellowed with age. I remember even six years ago there'd be a lot more pitchforks ready to go for threads like this.

Whichever one of you trollish cuntmuffins created Severus must have something better to do with your time. Surely. Can't you take up flower arranging or quarry diving or something?

Just spare us the firehose of inanity already.

I think I'll actually give her some credit on that point: it's exactly the sort of stupid thinking you'll see from some hormonal teenage boys. If he'd been a modern muggle boy, he'd probably try to impress her by having her watch while he played an online shooter and screamed expletives and racial slurs into his microphone.

He canonically left and opposed the DEs for her, so. The issue with them in canon is that by the time Snape got invested in the DEs, he was 1) still a teenager, and 2) had had years of Lily already being his friend and making excuses for him. Her loving him romantically wouldn't really change anything, because the friendship was already toxic. If he has to change *because* of Lily before joining the DEs, it has to be made clear on her part that she disapproves of his actions before they develop any kind of trust.

I mean...I don't think Lily should have had to state, "I disapprove of you joining a group who think people like me, your childhood friend, are subhuman."

I think Lily could have saved Snape if she had expressed love and affection to him from maybe their third or fourth year. By fifth year Snape was already too entrenched in the young Death Eater club.

Don't get me wrong. Snape is a jerk who ends up a bitter man that verbally abuses children. That said, I cannot blame him too terribly much for his choices in school. He was a young kid and surrounded by this ideology. He did what he had to to survive which was conform.

Snape, if he ever had a chance of being a good person, required a stronger moral character instilled in him as a child. That obviously didn't happen, so you have him doing whatever he could to survive.

Up until after he is named to the post of Potions professor, I see him as a tragic figure. Here is where we could have seen him truly become a likable and good character. Lost his first love because of his mistakes, he instead devotes himself to being a good teacher and preparing for the day voldemort returns. Instead, he reverts to verbally abusing and scaring kids. He's bitter and no better a person.

I don't see how her loving him romantically in third or fourth year or w.e. would change anything, because she already expressed love and affection to him- he was her best friend.

What she should have to do is irrelevant, it's about what's likely to influence him. JKR said he didn't understand why she didn't approve. He's used to her loyalty, and separates her from how he treats others in his mind because of it.

Lily says directly in that quote that she's made excuses for him for years, and then that she doesn't want to see him again. There's more to say about this, but rebuilding a relationship and broken trust is radically different than building a relationship and trust.

As explicitly stated in canon, Snape decided to join Voldemort even when he knew what Voldemort was capable of and what the future Death Eaters were doing to other students. Lily loving Snape wouldn't make him change his mind and Lily has already tried to make tonnes of excuses for him over the years.
