    What's not? Fighting dragons, the premise or the idea being novel? I'm not sure specifically what you mean and I'd be inclined to disagree regardless. There's a grand total of three stories on ffn.net about with Torrhen Stark as a listed character, so it's hardly played out. The next books are going to include warfare against dragons, fingers crossed GRRM does better than the show, which happens to be a classic of fantasy. I'm genuinely confused, or are you just being snarky for the sake of it?

    I wasn't expecting it to go well or be successful. Just thought the initial conquest could be a good setting for a story. Of course in the face of three dragons resistance is futile. But I imagine that initially when he first received notice of dragons being tamed for war it seemed pretty far fetched. I think the sacrifices steadily increasing would be the interest.     Anyone know of any half decent Torrhen Stark stories? Preferably where the North musters a better war effort than marching thirty thousand men south and surrendering. I think exploring the sacrifices the North would make to fend off the conquest could be interesting. Anyone read anything or have any ideas on how they'd go about fortifying the North and repelling the Targaryens?

    I think that that assessment is a little on the uncharitable side, personally. Reflecting on the story, it lacks drama, which is practically sinful in ASOIAF. Jon overcomes his obstacles too quickly and easily. Honestly, it's almost comically straight out of a YouTube Pitch Meeting.     How the Dragon Soars just updated again. It's a Rhaegar lives, Robert dies, story. Yet, doesn't appear to be a Targaryen-wank fic. Seems to be consistently chugging along with a little over three thousand words a month. There's not much there, it's only three chapters in.     I couldn't stand that story. The way the Robb/Margaery scene at Highgarden played out did my head in. All the authorial contrivances just to push a ship. I noped out pretty hard. The worst part was that I was excited to read it based on the novel premise. Just goes to show you execution is everything. I'm in the same boat though, been wanting a Robb and Jon story. In my head it's ideally a Jon goes south. But I've exhausted all my recc's.

    I found that fic to be quite frustrating. It has a lot of great minute long flashbacks that are glossed over in favour of pushing forth the generic fix it fic plot line. It would be better suited as a series of short stories. I'd much rather the storyline focus on Jon changing his journeys on each successive life, than an overall fix everything.     It was recommended earlier. The start is very weak with Varys being omniscient and Robert acting out of character. Once you get to the trial by combat the story starts to turn right into guilty pleasure territory, with potential to maybe become somewhat decent. But that start was through gritted teeth.

    Okay, does anyone know of any stories that explore the tension between Jon and Catelyn? Something like Allies In A Time Of War by liesmyth, or Snow in the Morning by Puzzled. I reckon it can be a pretty interesting dynamic. Especially if, like in Snow in the Morning, it's known that Jon is Ashara's.     I think the author said that they were reworking the plot because his ideas were already covered by GRRM. I'm assuming the sixth season confirmed a few things he was planning. He also said he was working on some of his own original stuff. So I'm hoping he's come back with some better writing skills and a better plot outline.

    It's Jon and Tyrion centric. And yeah, it starts from the start of GoT, and works it's way forward. The first few chapters are basically GRRM with a few slight changes, but it has a fairly rapid pace. Ned's already in KL talking to Tobho Mott, 30,000 words in.

    I've never had a problem with the apostrophes vs quotation marks. Tim Winton has a habit of doing the same thing, but I understand how deviations from literary conventions can evoke loathing. I hate it when people use nauseous instead of nauseated. Personally I find Canvas of Crowns to be far less offensive as far as the source material is concerned when compared to ACV.

There isn't much there at the moment but based on the update rate of ACV I'm hopeful for more to come. This is basically a more Jon-Centric take on A Song of Ice and Fire where Jon gives joining the NW a bit more consideration after a few poignant conversations.
