Yeah, by all accounts there's been some heavy-duty restructuring after Solo lost money. While the prequels had a lot of issues they did at least consistently turn a profit.

 

Fair enough. Tbh, I just thought his frustration was hilarious. I didn't see it as a legitimate critique or praise of the new Star Wars movies.

Sequels are technically stunning, but both scripts were ugh. TFA is okay, if you accept that it's a rehash of Ep4 (the opening crawl worldbuilding makes no sense) and TLJ is just atrocious.

 

All true statements. But worse than the prequels? I'm sorry. But no.

Take off the nostalgia glasses and selectively purge 90% of Phantom, 70% of Clones, and about 60% of Revenge and you'd maybe, MAYBE, have equal levels of cringe in both trilogies.

The sequels actually made us miss the prequels. We were wrong to think the plots couldn't make any less sense. This contitutes yet another example of where we should have listened to the wisdom of Qui-Gon.

 

The acting sucked in the prequels and seriously bad writing for character development

But the world building of the prequels is what gave it value and places it above the new movies.

The new movies do nothing to build the world and just shite on established characters to build new ones.

 

Not to mention that the world setup for the sequels sucks. It's Empire vs Rebels again, and JJabrams and Krazy Kate ignored the state of the world at the end of ROTJ. 30 years, Empire broken, but now Resistance is a tiny organization with basically no support from the new Republic? The Republic has no army?

The prequels were badly executed, but George actually had some new ideas for a new story instead of aping previous movies.

The more I think about the sequels, the more I despise them. I liked TFA at first--it was slick and new, and I hadn't seen the OT at that point. Then I watched Ep4 and turns out when it comes to scripts, Jajabrams is useless.

 

The beginnings and ends of movies do not matter to Jar Jar Abrams. Consider the end of TLJ- why is everyone happy? Things are way worse than they were at the end of ESB, when everyone was appropriately devastated. Posting stupid prequel meme in hopes of convincing Lucasfilm to de-canonize the sequels, lest they go back on an earlier statement.

 

If only they'd let the SWTOR crew write the story, not the actual screenplay obviously, for a Old Republic era series. I'd rather get my star wars fix from replaying those story arcs and reading fanfiction than suffering through either the prequels or the sequels again.
