Trailers often have things in them that only make sense given context from the full film.

Certainly Marvel don't always have the neatest or most consistent plots, but I'd wait to see what the context of that statement was before assuming it makes no sense.

I can give you the context right now. "We're good characters with no flaws, who've been always around, but not in previous movies, tho, cuz reasons, which were important for thousands of years, but not anymore, cuz we're nice like that." Basically, they want to have the cake and eat it, because if they were to write about god-like beings, who simple didn't give a damn about people's petty squabbles untill shit hit cosmic proportions, the world will implode.
Actually, it's a good thing to have zero expectations. It leaves the possibility of being pleasantly surprised.

    Huh?

It seems a pretty straight forward plot. They're eternal. They've lived pretty much through the history of the MCU-Earth's world and nudged it developmentally in certain ways. Now they have to get involved in a big way, because of.... something, likely the upcoming Big Bad of Phase 4 & 5 Kang the Conqueror (as hinted at by the rumor mill media.)

Seeing as I never read the Eternals comics, I'm not using much side knowledge a lot of people have going into whichever film they're going into, I feel fairly good about this movie. It's not massively CGI. It's got a good cast. It's an established universe, so there's a lot of minutia that they don't have to waste with backstory.

Looking at this, I don't think it's going to be another cookie-cutter superhero movie, which is welcome in my eyes. Also, it's the first trailer.

It never fails to amuse me how people shit on an upcoming movie in a series that has more than proven over and over again that they can produce kick ass content with questionable material. Is/was everything perfect in the past? No? But it was damn entertaining every single time. This isn't the DCEU where you have to flip a coin and hope for the best.

My only question is why open Phase 4 with a movie that should belong in Phase 3 (Black Widow), and a random Kung-Fu movie. I don't know, but I guess I'll see what they have to do with anything later this year.

Nah. I'm not one to poke at a company for being successful in business. The only horrible decision I think they've really made over the last decade is putting Kennedy in charge of Star Wars, but that's for a different thread. Kevin Feige is Marvel's golden goose that has yet to disappoint, but there's always a first time for everything.

I've been hopeful for Phase 4, but there are a lot of movies listed that I have serious doubts about. I also had doubts about Guardians of the Galaxy when it was nothing but a title to be released in the distant future without a cast or story line known. So, I'm more than willing to give the benefit of doubt to a studio that has yet to disappoint me.

I can't say the same about Sony, Lionsgate, 20th Century, Paramount, etc.

"We have watched and guided, we have helped them progress...throughout the years we have never interfered"

Why not something like "...as much as we were allowed." Hint at something holding them back during all those MCU events.

The whole trailer feels lazy and boring, while the movie itself looks like it was made during the short period when 'wokeness' couldn't go wrong.

It's a bit over the top, but the Drinker's reaction sums it up pretty well.

I couldn't help but watch the first Guardians Trailer to compare the two.

Excitement, action, humor, and an introduction.

There is a rumour that the new Spider-Man will have the whole Sinister Six, not just Electro and Doc Octopus, and the question is if the film will be able to make it work when the previous two films that had more than one villain were disappointments of their series. If there are two more Spiders in as everything suggests, I would say it needs to be Endgame long if they want to have at least one good scene for everybody.

Oh god no, I loved the last two spider man movies. The reason the last two iterations failed is to many villains...

Watched the first episode of Loki.

Working with the vaguely fascistic heavy handed agency of a tyrannical government being the right thing to do is certainly a strange choice.

Wow that is not my read at all, I felt like Loki as the audience surrogate was constantly pushing back on it as the "right thing to do" and was instead forced into it to avoid... you know.

Yeah this is already going to be better than FAWS and Wandavision. Both good shows, but Hiddleston is just leagues above the other actors.

Just saw Loki ep1, really good. I'm glad that this is the direction they're taking with it.

Agreed. It feels very much like more of a drama.

    Watched ep1

I really don't like how Loki is seemingly the but of every joke now.

    Always has been.

    Liked it, interesting premise.

Anyone else feel the CGI looked... cheap?

Specifically the scene in Mongolia. Felt 20 years old.

Shit I specifically remember thinking during the opening scene in Mongolia that Marvel really did a great job with the CGI.

Hmmm I think my complaint is that a lot of it didn’t need to be CGI.

The sand dune and bug were obviously cgi, but they could actually get and to film it. A few other bits like that.

It’s the issue the Hobbit movies had, made 10 years after lotr and looked way worse cause they did cgi over practical.

Jurassic park looks great today as they used only limited cgi and practical where possible.

I think we are still well over a decade away from cgi looking indistinguishable from real life. Until then you are better off just shooting a real fucking sand dune.

He killed many. He deserves every abuse he gets.

The reason for that is that CGI is way, way cheaper.

Yeah probably cheaper than fucking off to a sand dune with a film crew and finding a beetle. It would still need to go through post regardless so my as well just have it CGI.

Just finished the first ep of Loki. Very interesting set up, lots of avenues for drama and moral dilemma. It'll be very interesting to see where they go with it from this starting point.
