I agree. The 'half your age plus seven' rule is ideal to determine the right age. So by that Hermione, Cho who are year older than Harry wouldn't fit nor would girls his age. Ginny, Luna age girls would be the appropriate ones.

The rule is for determining what is and is not weird between adults. Dicaprio, for example, is weird for having a preference for women under 26. It's a consensual 'age gap' relationship- weird, not predatory. The point of my post was to clarify that a relationship between an 18 year old and a 14 year old is predation and you seem to have sidestepped this entirely. Secondly, it's bizarre that you seem to think this rule means a single year can't exist between a man and a woman; the rule goes both ways.

Don't Hermione and Krum go to the ball when she is 15 and he 18 same with Cedric and Cho who have a relationship at 18 and 15. Would that make it predation? Are 18 year olds in schools actually full grown adults and shouldn't be allowed to date teens who are younger than them? On the second point I didn't think so but thought the rule did.

Krum goes to the Dark Arts school, of course he is a little scummy.

Going to a ball isn't 'having a relationship'. Cedric was 17, and we don't actually know that Cho was 15 in her fifth year; she could have been another Hermione, but that's not the point; it's not an age of consent issue if they're only going to the ball. Regarding the point of teenagers in schools, the way I happen to think it should work is that if you have two ages, an age of consent and an age of majority, then the difference between those ages should be the maximum age difference. Where I'm from, just for example, it's 16 and 18, so I wouldn't normally see anything unusual about a 15 year old and a 17 year old dating; by the time one hits majority, the other should hit the age of consent. No wizarding age of consent is ever stated, but I really don't care what it is if it's below 16; that's just a testament to living in a relatively pedo-y society.

A Tonks/Harry relationship would be quite weird, even after Harry came of age, at least until they were both quite a bit older. I'm pretty sure that the Tonks/Remus relationship is a lot fucking weirder though, given that there's a good 15 years at least between them.

I teach high school Sex Ed.

The only answer here is yes. She is too old.

All you need to do is compare the priorities of an 18 year old with the priorities of a 14 year old to see why.

This is also why a Harry/Tonks relationship is morally wrong.

There's a word for older people who date those who are way younger and far more immature: Predators.

In defense of my cousin's husband after doing some age-related math: occasionally it's just a doofus and not a predator

    Other than that: Yes, 100%.

Wait, why are people saying Fleur is 18 in GoF when she would most likely be 17? Krum is explicitly stated to be 18, although I don't remember if it's ever said if he doubled a year. Fleur, though, is 17 and is only three years older than Harry. Now, do I think a relationship between a 17yo and a 14yo is weird, low-key pedo-y? Yeah, absolutely. But this is fanfiction, guys. Writers pair Harry with Fleur because she's canonically the most beautiful student-aged character we're introduced to regardless of gender. They want him to have the (almost supernaturally so) pretty girl. Also, Harry is rarely even close to being like an actual 14yo in fanfiction and most of the time is just a not very well-camouflaged version of the author with his name and description tagged on.

Everyone knows the age doesn't matter when the woman is a supernaturally beautiful woman with a date-rape aura, or is capable of shapeshifting her tits.

Also, Chosen Ones get a pass. Just look at Anakin mack-ing on Padme in Phantom. That clearly worked out great for both of them.

I presonally know this kind of couple. The girl at her 22 took virginity of a 14 years old boy. Or was it the other way around? Because she's the ultra sweet kind, and he's the street type of guy. Anyway, here comes the fun part. She got pregnant.

They are married now, raising their son.

The morals? Teach your kids to use the effing rubber.

Yes, that is the moral. Make sure that your kids know to use a condom when they get raped.

Just to be clear: you guys think that a 22 y.o. girl who can't keep her knees together deserves ten years in prison?

She was 22, he was 14. Both legally and morally she's a predator and a rapist. This wouldn't even be a question if the genders were reversed.

In addition to keeping better company, you need to stop being a simp for literal rapists.

Ah! But they are your morals and your undrestanding of the laws of your country.
You know who defines if a person is a rapist or not? The court. Which does that after an investigation which starts after the police gets a report. Which nobody made because neither of the parties nor their parents considered it a rape.
    I guess it's a cultural thing.

So I told a controveral story and you're ready to lynch me. Doesn't make your company look appealing, you know.

To paraphrase Mark Wahlberg in The Departed, I live in a civilized country. You must live somewhere else.

Yeah, nothings says 'I live in a civilized and morally upstanding country' like parents not pressing charges against the person who raped their child. You are hiding behind the most bullshit of excuses. Courts and police and investigations? Come on bro. One person was 14, one was 22, and the proof is the conception. Hide behind your galaxy brain all you like, doesn't change the fact that the 22 raped the 14 year old.

My company seems unappealing? You willingly hang about with literal rapists, defend them, and threw some misogyny on top of it all. Any opinion you have isn't worth the coils my dog leaves on the lawn.

I'm not calling for a lynching. I told you to keep better company and to stop being a simp for rapists. Quit your candy ass bellyaching.
