Very true Banner, very true. My favorite one was definiatly the one with the giant bugs in the Ministry. How about you?

    Spoilers!

The Demon Summoning portal in ... was it Mexico? Whatever - Harry transforming and throwing himself into the center of the circle. That has to be the longest best combat scene I've ever read. She never confused me, she never lost track of who was doing what. It was exciting and intense and huge.

Seriously? That's your answer? So just because it's fanfiction, it's OK to be written terribly? What has DLP come to? We used to be a site that hated that train of thought. Now our own members adhere to that philosophy.

Stupid niggers be stupid, Sree. Smoke a bowl and ash it in their cheezburgers, for they are too dense to argue with.

Don't we? Damn; I'm on the wrong website.

If we wanted another fucking Ernest Hemingway or Longfellow or what have you, we'd be reading original works. We want a decent story that makes sense, not drivel that makes your ears bleed out. We'd ALL prefer Hemingway to bloodyrists.

Why not? Most authors have two jobs because the money that they make from authoring won't quite pay the bills - meaning that authors write in their free time. Very few books are as popular and as expensive as Harry Potter, after all.

Relative to what? Lots of fics are relatively better than a simple note written on a bus transfer by sheer volume. Would I read those fics? No.

No, Sree, I'm saying that chapter one was enjoyable, and that it helped set up the next few chapters. It also showed us a Harry who wasn't hobbled by AD's policy of "keep giving the bad guys more chances: eventually they will repent." Under Dumbledore's control, Harry would have tied the guy up, NOT interrogated him, and hung around waiting for the Aurors to show up and blame Harry for everything. Chapter1 showed why Harry dumped the other kids from the Ministry crew. The house blood protections failed because the attacker wasn't a Death Eater: chapter 1 gave reasons for Harry to drop out of sight. Chapter 1 also gave Harry motivation to buckle down and focus on survival.

The next few chapters, in the RoR, are set up so that they Make Sense. Harry (non canon, of course) is intelligent and disciplined enough to willingly hurt himself in order to improve his chances at survival, victory, and a future that is bright.

I believe that Harry finally grasped that blindly trying to duplicate Dumbledore's apparent reasoning for his actions and inactions was going to get Harry tortured and killed. JKR gave us a "combat pacifist" who had been beaten and warped into a horrible parody of self-sacrifice. Dumbledore didn't expect Harry to survive the last battle with Voldemort, and to assuage his concience the old man encouraged the boy to focus on play. Why force the sacrificial lamb to learn unpleasant adult skills?

*eats popcorn, shakes head at the combined idiocy of Banner and Dranco, drops a "Terrible" rating*

Knew I was forgetting something. Had to do me civic duty.

I don't think seeing an Owl die will push you over the edge. It probably had more to do with Dumbledore. That made him doubt the Light.

Sorry, I meant in the story, Fred and George give him the knife.

No Sree, what I meant was that I will accept a few plotholes, cliches, and spelling/grammar errors if the fic is good enough. In my honest opinion, this fic is good enough to do that.

No, it isn't ok to be written terribly. I'm sure everyone would prefer a literary masterpiece. But it isn't. What we have is a good story. And good storytelling can make up for other problems.

It is a very short list for fics which have excellent writing and it isn't going to be getting longer any time soon.

Even when a question is answered Sree refuses to accept it. I saw this coming, and I also saw him picking at minor details and not having any MAJOR PLOTHOLES that he said he was going to point out and then rip apart the story.

I feel like I'm repeating myself but I certainly wouldn't be the first person in this thread. Most fanfiction authors write to get better at writing, yes the writing is weaker at the beginning but the more she writes the stronger the story becomes.

I can't help but laugh at all this DLP ONLY THE BEST shit that Sree and Inquisition are spouting, take a look in the library.

If someone acting in an OOC manner really bothered Sree he wouldn't be on DLP, it's all he's got to bash this fic with though so I'm sure he'll continue screaming it louder and louder until he forgets what he was screaming about.

I'm still looking forward to the actual review about the terrible plot. I won't get my hopes up.

Exactly. Canon Harry is not a plausible character, he's a caricature. He's basically a saint, who despite being a neglected child, having his parents murdered, yadda yadda, barely holds a grudge for any of it. Bellatrix murders his godfather in front of him and he can't even work up enough hate to use the cruciatus. He's got craploads of money (JKR said so) and yet he's still miserably wearing Dudley's throwaways, not because it makes sense but because he's supposed to be some kind of example to "the children". A realistic Harry would probably be a borderline psychopath after everything he's been through. Constantly fearing for your life makes people loopy. Would YOU use stunners when people are trying to murder you?

I'm sorry, but you can't have a Harry who acts like a real person would and a canon Harry at the same time. Most good stories try to work around this by starting at canon and moving him to reality. But I'm not going to get all frothing at the mouth because someone chooses to start with reality, provided they at least attempt to keep his character somewhat intact.

And to put it in simple terms that even an idiot of your magnitude could understand, they're wrong.

That was terrible Trag. You haven't even commented on anything besides: 'it sucks'.

    Don't bother.
