Mehs, I have read only a third of those. Goddamn, I need to move out of Finland.

Salvatore and Pratchett. Those guys NEED to be on that list.

I didn't like Earthsea that much.

This is a very nice list, I'll have to ask whether any of those would be available for me.

Dresden files is awesome fuck you :/ EDIT: Also, after reading the synopsis of the first Felix Castor book it seems remarkably similar to Dresden...

I love the Dresden Files, it's a great series, I just think the Felix Castor series is much better written. And yeah, they're somewhat alike, but the Felix Castor series is a lot more serious.

Felix Castor is good, I liked it better than I did Dresden actually, because the first book wasn't boring as shit, as compared to the first few Dresdens'. Has a ton of potential, as compared to Dresden where you can almost already guess where its going.

Also, Name of the Wind is fuck win. I want the second one.

The first Felix Castor book is actually the worst one too (Still great though), they progressively get better. The final book in the series was released in the UK earlier this month, I really need to get it somehow.

Why do so many supernatural/mystery novels (or books in general) take place in freaking London. No offense to the Brits among us, but I'd much rather hit the beat with Dresden in Second City than experience more London.

Because it's an old, famous city that lots of people know with a ton of history behind it? Seriously, there's a lot to work with if you pick a city like London to base your story in, even if you just isolate it to messing with history a bit.

Can't believe that this one made it on the list. I borrowed the first book from the library a couple of years ago and almost burned the book halfway through. Guess I just wasn't ready for the classics.

Glad someone else likes them too. One of my favorite fantasy characters is Drizzt, don't really know why. If anyone doesn't like him thats fine but the books got me through my senior year of high school so... fuck you :).

Goddamn I hate The Chronicles of Amber. My parents made me read the first book when I was twelve, and I didn't understand shit in it. That pretty much ruined it forever for me.

Meh. I might try the series again. If I am particularly bored.

And Portus, no, that was nine years ago.

Seriously, he does a lot of awesome characters. I'm not fond of a couple of them, but Drizzt, Entreri, Jarlaxle....

    I like that series.

Eh, series started going downhill after Passage to Dawn, IMO. Favourite character remains Zaknafein, closely followed by Entreri and Jarlaxle. Probably doesn't deserve to belong in the top fantasy books of all time, though.

Anyone else read The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett? (or The Warded Man in some countries). A relatively new novel, but a real great read. Better then half the classics on that list.

Oh, awesome list. I was just thinking that I needed to find some new books to read. I was debating trying Twilight even, though I am fairly sure I'll hate it, just to know what I'm talking about when I bash it.

Dresden Files, a Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, The Name of the Wind, and a few more on the list I've read and enjoyed, so I'm tempted to trust the list. Therefore "Gardens of the Moon" is now on my "must read" list, and I'm sure a few more will be once I read the descriptions/summaries.

I'm somewhat surprised though to see "His Dark Materials" on this list. I read those and found the 2nd and 3rd books to be heavyhanded and a bit boring. The first one was good though.

Likewise I've always been on the fence about whether or not I should try the "Wheel of Time" series. I hear very conflicting opinions on it. Some say that it's entirely too long and drawn out to be entertaining. Others say it's good through and through. It's on the backburner now as always.

    Thanks for posting the list.

His Dark Materials was my favourite series as a kid, and I still go back and re-read it now and then. I'll admit though that the whole "religion sucks" theme seems to takeover a bit.

And Wheel of Time... I read the first four of them in about two weeks, the next two over a period of about four months, and then gave up. Starts off amazing, but starts to drag, and drag, and drag on.
