    Dumbledore? In my Doctor Who?

First (minimal) details about the Christmas Special - a take on A Christmas Carol, starring Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins (Welsh opera singer, never acted before...)

EDIT: Sorry for anyone who clicked on the previous link. Epic fail...

So it's less than two months till Christmas, and being the impatient sort that I am, I'm bumping the thread.

Anyway, apparently there was an interview with Moffat way back in August saying that Doctor Who will be split up into two series a year from now on.

    Sauce

Basically, they're still going to show 13 episodes a year plus the Christmas Special. Only, they're not going to show 13 episodes straight through, but rather they'll have a Spring and Fall series of Doctor Who. We will, to borrow Moffat's words, "never be more than a few months away from the next Series of Doctor Who". There'll be seven episodes in the Spring, six in Fall, and then the Christmas Special.

Personally, I'm all for it as it would necessitate more over-arching plot rather than having to fill space with filler episodes (although those are great as well, most of the time), and it'll be cause for more fanboying celebration every 6 months, rather than having to wait nearly a year for the new Series.

    Thoughts?

Dude... its kind of obvious. Or do you seriously think they'll end it with the thirteenth Doctor? AND lose possible future profits? HA. HA. HA.

I've just got into the show as a whole a year or two ago, and the one fact the show and the fans have consistently brought up was how many regenerations the Doctor can have.

Time Lords have been given extra regenerations before, in canon, IIRC, so it's not outrageous.

I don't mind the season split. As long as all thirteen episodes get shown in the same year, it's fine. I think I read somewhere that there's a big cliffhanger at the end of the episode that starts the split, which should be fun/evil as all fuck.

Meanwhile, I also read that Mark Sheppard is coming on for a charismatic affable villain role... as written by Steven Moffat! There is no hating that combination.

As others have said, it's possible to gain more regenerations. Time Lords could be granted more (as shown by the Master, although he ran out of regenerations and went body-hopping in non-Time-Lord-bodies for a bit also), but it's also possible that without a functioning Time Lord society, the Doctor has quite possibly unlimited regenerations.

In a recent Sarah Jane Adventures two parter (crappy, crappy show), where the Eleventh Doctor made a cameo, he tells one of the protagonists that he has 507 regenerations.

In short, it's been left open-ended so that we won't find out until that point where the Thirteenth Doctor dies.

    :awesome
