I don't think anyone was arguing that Champions was actually a good fic Sesc. More that it was like daytime soaps or Jerry Springer in that it's so terrible and such a train wreck that it's semi-entertaining.

When your in the right mood that is.

    Good, good. :)

I wonder if anyone's ever tried writing a manipulative!Fleur story, using what little we know of her character as a base?

    Edit:

    Pretty much this. Soap opera.

Lol Sesc, get back in your box, sonny. Did I say it was a good fic? No. I said that personally, I enjoyed it slightly once I was able to ignore its many many faults. You can rant all you like but nobody is forcing this fic down your throat.

    The French Affair

Written by Sesc, in the WBA. Also on FFN. Features a Fleur who is some sort of spy/agent and seems to revel in using her Veela nature to manipulate men to her advantage.

Yes, they so did. I took this shit with me onto my summer-camping trip. And when I ran out of things to read, I had to read this.

    Also, I hate soaps.

    Yes, I do.

Edit: Ninjad regarding my own shit. Wtf :p

That's what happens when you write such epic shit:p

Seriously though I love that story. Even if I have no idea how its all going to tie together. The suspense is delightful.

The thing with Champions is that, despite how bad it is, it's still better than 90% of Harry/Fleur fics. Which means that, if you need a Harry/Fleur read, Champions it is.

    This makes me sad.

What Taure said. Full of tripe and cliches, but reasonably well-written at least. And it did manage to avoid the bane of all Harry/Veela fics; the Veela-Merman war. There are times when I wish spontaneous combustion on Jeconais for inventing that particular idea.

Besides the French Affair I can't think of anything. In 99% of h/fleur stories (the exceptions being the French Affair and "The Lie I've Lived") Fleur as portrayed as a misunderstood beauty, a girl who can't make friends with girls b/c they're jealous, and all guys want to do is get with her, therefore she takes solace in books and her family, who, by the way, is incredibly rich and powerful within the French ministry.

I would love to see a story where Fleur not only has her own agenda, but is from average stock, and kind of slutty, like an average teenage girl.

What makes me sadder is the fact that there are already good ideas that have been thought out and are ready to be used, posted early on in the thread by the likes of Jbern, Percy, Vesvius and Lucullus, to name but a few.

It's not like there's an armada of great writers waiting for a decent plot bunny to surface so that they can start writing it. There are plenty of good plot bunnies lying around, just no one's bothering to actually write any of them.

It's all a worthless discussion that no one's proactive enough to execute, so we're reduced to discussing the latest pieces of shit from FFNet.

Your day was ruined a long, long time ago.

We have a grand total of Sesc, Blaise, and Perspicacity that have done anything. It's great, but I don't blame anyone for expecting more folks to have stepped up in three years since Methene started this thread.

Of course, this would only be a massive bitching of negativity from me if I left it at that.

I am going to double-back, and choose one of the many excellent ideas put forth that causes a spark of inspiration, and then write the shit out of it.

I request that, if you're reading this, and want to write at all, whether you're Stephen King or Robert Newcomb in ability, you also go back and at least make the commitment that, if something inspires you or makes you think it has to be written, that you'll try to write it. No one else is likely to do anything with it, and if you want to do something other than resigning yourself like a pussy, then you have to be proactive about it.

We're all old enough and mature enough to know that the "There's not enough time" excuse is bullshit. Just devote the time you usually spend browsing DLP, and then you'll have time.

Methene already attempted this much earlier on, three years ago in fact, and it failed miserably. And back then, interest in Harry/Fleur was at its peak. It's much diminished now, so chances of us rising to action should be even worse.

But if we don't attempt this and give ourselves a chance, nothing is ever going to happen. And even if we only hit a dead end of a hundred false starts and fics of two chapters apiece, one of them might end up inspiring one of the many followers between us or a random skilled writer browsing FFnet to start a fic on their own, and maybe that will be the Harry/Fleur masterfic we've envisioned. We don't know till we try.

I'll be seeing you in the WBA, bitches.

    Addendum:

Did I say I want your thumbs up? I want your thumbs, on the goddamn keyboard.

Swim, Circular Reasoning is ostensibly Harry/Fleur, but no Fleur. The fuck's up with that?

MattSilver, you are one of DLP's finest authors, and you need to keep writing.

Blaise, stop playing coy and post that Champions update immediately.

Anarchy, you've got the talent and writing ability, now it's time to put it to use.

Menace, Oephyx, Ichor haven't seen examples of your writing. TIME TO CHANGE THAT.

I started my own HP/FD fic about 2 weeks ago, So in maybe another 2 weeks you guys will have another shitty ff.net fic to pass your time with.

Basic premise is that Harry put's his own name into the goblet of fire in a bid to impress Fleur. He wasn't actually expecting his name to come out as well as Fleur's. (There are only 3 champions as Harry got chosen over Cedric. Being bound to the tournament twice wouldn't matter.)

It doesn't work, Fleur still calls him a 'leetle boy', and most of the fic will be about Harry trying to show off (in stupid ways) to gain her affection, and Harry getting very lucky during the actual tasks. I suppose Harry kind of acts how you would imagine James Potter was acting in order to gain Lily's affection, although we know very little about that.

I already got 20k words done, and I really like how it is coming, so naturally everyone here will hate it.

I think more people would write H/F if they just weren't so put off by writing her accent. I mean, there should be some form of accent there... otherwise she's just not quite Fleur is she?

And damn you Andromalius. Must resist... attempt... to write... fanfiction...

You know, a storyline that has the opposite aim of that (Harry impressing Fleur by accident and as time went on, she becomes more and more obsessed about him, etc) and having her chase after him (resulting in him being completely freaked out and essentially running away from her) could be pretty good as a humor/crack fic', as well as a parody of the 'Fleur suddenly being magically in love with Harry' stories out there.

"Uh, Fleur? We should...uh, you know - middle of the maze? Third Task? Triwizard Cup - ring a bell?" Harry swallowed nervously, and he began to clumsily stumble backwards away from the dead silent and rapidly encroaching veela - the predatory gleam that could now be seen lurking within her normally cold, sapphire blue eyes wasn't exactly hard to miss even at this distance!

Harry's eyes desperately flicked to the closest passageway on his direct left. Judging from the flickering and nightmarish shadows being ominously cast against the sprawling dark green hedge walls, it seemed that his only two choices were limited to either engaging in mortal combat with a potentially horrific beast or challenge, or being accosted, stripped, groped and then essentially humped into sheer exhaustion by a horny and deeply obsessed veela.

Whilst there was a good chance that he might be able to survive and pass any of the possible challenges that were lurking down that forboding passageway, he wasn't so sure about the chances of survival that a lust-driven encounter with Fleur would grant if he decided to take 'option A'.

And what of the Triwizard Cup?

A sudden low and aggressive growl emanating from Fleur's throat caused his eyes to quickly dart back to her stalking figure, and he wasn't at all surprised to see her smiling seductively at him with her set of perfect, straight white teeth.

"Right," Harry quietly muttered to himself, his eyes still warily watching Fleur, "life threatening challenge it is then!"

It's bad enough having a well meaning yet somewhat manipulative headmaster looking after your well-being as well as a psychotic dark lord wanting to kill you, but an upcoming and obsessed veela, too?

For the accent thing, JKRowling did butcher her dialogue quite a bit.

    "'Ello 'Arry!"

Although for long term writing, I could imagine why this would be a problem, but since she had such a small part in the books, why couldn't she of mentioned Fleur's thick accent in the narrative description?
