    Challenge accepted.
This will probably fail spectacularly, but I do have a couple of plot bunnies that I could roughly shape into a hopefully decent plot.
It will take some time, and I will definitely need some beta, mainly to tell me if it is actually worth posting, but I think I can manage it.
If nothing else, even crappy H/F stories are something for good H/F stories to step on and rise.

P.S.:On HP and the World Beneath. It won't be H/F? What the fuck? Addictedforlife, are you his beta? Bring him here on DLP so we can fork his fucking face out.

I'm still unclear as to how this would work. Are you going to create a world where the wizards have managed to hold back Muggle advancements for the past 800 years, keeping them weak and in the Middle Ages? I can possibly see that working, but only if you're careful with it. As Tenages said, it'll be difficult to write a convincing world that's so drastically different from our own. Your wizards would also have to be extremely ruthless and decisive, none of the wishy-washyness that we see in canon. You'll also need to do a lot of research to make sure you get your details right. Because of the previously mentioned massive culture gap, you won't be ale to write it like a modern fic.

@Republic21: Go through the HP & World Beneath thread. TS was here... like a while ago, then got fucked already because he was being a little presumptuous ass. Believe me, I'm working on it (getting him to man the fuck up and do the H/F, that is).

EDIT: @coleam45: I think your still getting the wrong image. The time will be the Middle Ages, and Harry (and other canon characters) were born there, and live there.
Everything else... that's partly why I'm procrastinating actually working out the story, but every time I do that (procrastinate), I get Andro's little speech in my mind again... damn you Andro.

Ok, then it's not like Skitterleap. Skitterleap was set in an AU where the Nazis got help from Grindelwald and the war is still going in a sort of stalemate, even into the 90's. At least that's the way I understood it.

I'm not really seeing the point of just tossing canon back 800 years. You say that you'll use canon characters, but there's no reason for them to be in the Middle Ages, other than the fact that you wanted them there. If you're going to change that much, you might as well make them OCs. In stories like Skitterleap, the characters may be completely different from canon, but they had a reason to be there: it was their time period. By moving canon back in time, not only will the characters be completely different from canon, they'll have no reason to be there.

Looks like general consent is no, it doesn't work. Thought so. Discarded. Thinking of some new plot bunny to stop feeling so damn guilty!

I say we all spam his FFnet account with messages telling him to do it already, and do it good.

Will post this on the HP&TWB thread for good measure.

You won't be spamming anyone, Republic.

It's up to the author what he wants to write, not you. Don't even fucking try it. >_>

Ok ok chill. I did send him a PM, but it wasn't spam. I considered what addicted said about the guy, and since I have already discussed with him at an earlier date about his story, it wasn't really out of the blue.
Fortunately, what I do and who I spam outside of these forums is none of your fucking business. It's up to him to write what he wants, and up to me(and everyone else that cares) to suggest things to him.

It's mainly for my own satisfaction, yes.

The thought of making simple screw ups by not fully understanding the plot or just by simply missing a single detail is a horrible thought for me. Since I'm also re-reading the books at the same time (as it's been years since I've sat down and read one of them), it's not that big of a deal for me, to be honest: with help from the wiki/Lexicon, I usually get a book chapter noted out and read in about an hour or so (for the earlier books, at least), and since I've got so much free time...ya know. :)

On Harry Potter and the World Beneath: we can ask, hell, even beg for him to not pussy out on acting upon the Fleur/Harry romance angle that he's so well craftily set up, but to generally harass him? Not a good idea: it'll likely just piss him off, even if he is an arrogant arse like most people have said.

It really tempts me to go back and begin writing my Harry/Fleur story that is already plotted out with a few chapters written. Alas, I've two pending stories to concentrate upon. But rest assured, I'll finish my H/F story.

And it's good to hear that you're writing again, Andro and if you say that your H/F plot bunny is more awesome than the last one you posted then I really look forward with anticipation to reading it.

And, since, this is Harry/Fleur community, my main story at the moment, ASHH, contains at touch-bit of H/F, mostly hinted at till now but I've a planned scene with the two in future.

Granted, "spam" was a poor choice of words. But I was angry at the time.
Well, I talked to the guy, he said that as the story is he won't be able to fit a building romance between Harry and Fleur and that he doesn't believe in love at first sight, which in fanfiction usually means lust and all that. He said it may happen in the sequel, but that it doesn't fit that particular story.
I asked him some more things, will tell you if he answers.
Oh and, I have talked to him before about his story, before joining DLP or around that period, and he seemed a decent bloke. I guess DLP brings out your inner faggot:awesome. No seriously, he may have an ego the size of a mountain, but it didn't really show at any point in our discussion.
I'll try looking at the story thread to see what happened that got him butt raped.

More Harry/Fleur fics? I'm in. Well, will be once I end HP/DF crossover I write right now (and there is possibility that it will end H/F too, because right now Harry only said his wife is blond ;) ).

But all this talking gave me idea for fic that I will never write, because it's too big for me to even try.

Harry has one more stop before ending in his own time around 1987. But because he know he can't interfere with his own past, he ends in France as bodyguard for the granddaughter of some important politics - Fleur Delacour. Over time Harry develop sort of friendship with his young charge (think Man on Fire), but as always his stay ends quite violently when he is protecting Fleur from kidnappers.

Now in the present day, Harry is interested in Fleur when she appears in Hogward, but for different reason that everyone assumes. When the rest thinks he is as taken by her beauty as everyone, he is just curious in what kind of woman she grew up.

What he didn't considered was that after his display of magical skills in the First Task, Fleur becomes interested in this little boy, because he did something unique that before she only saw her decreased bodyguard do.

I think it is interesting set up, also because both of them would see the other one as too young to have serious relationship and even before that Harry would need to stop thinking of Fleur as a little girl he protected.

I can see why update of champions is so slow - the end of the current latest chapter - pretty much leaves it up to the Author to decide alot of things, before the next chapter begins, unless it's a pointless filler.

Prime conditions for writer's block to set in.

Except in the very first chapter the author says they've already written over 100k words - 4 chapters short of complete - of the fic and just have to tidy it up.

Johnny Farrar, I for one am especially excited at reading yours. Both of the stories you're writing are fantastic.

Celestin's H/F idea made me think up a slightly similar, but different plot:

A central figure is Monsieur Dellacoeur, who the French government is keeping surveillance on. Newspapers have published blurry photos of him meeting with French Dark Wizards and revolutionaries, source anonymous.

Customs officials barely miss him whisk him taking elder saplings, a commodity under the strictest trade restrictions, and allegations of him accepting bribes from prisoners of the Bastille are made.

Monsieur Dellacour does the last thing anyone expects: he submits a formal request for a professional to protect from Dark wizards he claims are after him and his family. The French Magical Law Enforcement is uncertain of his intentions, and tries to discern whether this is a ploy designed to divert attention away from illegal activities.

Suspicious but willing to play his game, French government selects a suitable Auror to act as bodyguard, and if necessary, as an undercover mole, while private investigators and criminal bureau members try to draw the noose around Monsieur Dellacouer. However, Harry is in the country, attending a Quidditch press conference and is appearing as guest spokesperson for the British.

It is an unexpected boon. He is told the situation, and agrees to accept the mission. This surprises Moniseur Dellacouer since Harry is unlike the French Aurors, none of whom are remotely close to the family. Fleur and Gabrielle, who are on good terms with Harry and would prefer him to an outright stranger from the Auror force, keep him from declining Harry's offer. Fleur, not married to Bill in this story, works as a researcher, and consents to her father's request to live with her family while she is threatened.

So begins his tenure as bodyguard.

He is personally on Monsieur Dellacoeur's side, as the man is noble and brave, and he delicately sweeps his entire study, and doesn't so much as find a shred of anything related to Dark magic or correspondence to shady men.

Which doesn't help in the least. If Dellacoeur is in league with enemies, then he would arrange for someone affiliated with the government - Harry - to declare his home clean after removing any incriminating elements.

And one day, a Dark wizard attacks while Harry is enjoying himself at an art gallery.

It's a brutal, surgical strike, unlike anything Harry has had to survive before. A Muggle sniper scores a glancing blow on his temple. Muggle elite operatives in street clothes (going overboard, but I'm thinking this up on the fly) materialize around him and try to finish the job, but an anti-Apparation enchantment means a wizard is overseeing them. Harry recovers and stuns the Muggles. Harry catches a glimpse of a man with a wand disappearing as the police arrives.

This essentially ends the suspicions on Fleur's father, and the Aurors step up operations against whoever is against him. Harry is convinced too. The public is appeased, especially once it is discovered that the source of the incriminating photos was a former political enemy of Fleur's father, still bitter.

The Muggle assailants are memory-checked by Obliviators before being released, to see if there is any hint of the Dark wizard's identity. A game-changer: no false memories were detected. They were not Imperiused, they were acting under orders from the highest echelons of power. The leaders of the Muggle government and defense are under 24-hour guard by French wizards. Something is very wrong.

He begins getting closer to Fleur, and is adored by Gabrielle, who are increasingly fearful for their lives. Fleur convinces him to teach her some of the specialized duelling tactics and spells he knows. He agrees, and when she isn't working they bout, gradually familiarizing themselves with each other's duelling styles.

The affair isn't over, not by a longshot. Harry becomes uneasy with his position, as he catches glimpses of fire hurtling through branches of the tallest, densest, treetops in his dreams.

He eventually receives a tipoff that Monsieur Dellacoeur has a safehouse where the hypothetical incriminating evidence is might be kept. He goes there alone, and the whole thing explodes.

He finds Fleur there, and when he asks her what she's doing, she immediately hits him with her veela charm. Stunned but still managing to retain control of his senses, Harry improvises and pretends to have succumbed to her influence.

He abandons this when she turns her fingers into talons and comes in close to kill him as he is supposedly enthralled and defenseless.

Harry shouts at her as they begin to duel, demanding why they are fighting.

Fleur attacks him viciously, and ends the duel in a blur as Harry is unable to adapt to Fleur's rhythm - her duelling in their friendly bouts were a facade and carefully fabricated to hide her real style. Harry had taken no such precaution however, so finds himself at the disadvantage.

He is knocked unconscious, and wakes up as he is being dragged from the burning safehouse by the authorities.

The French government has declared war on the Muirthemne - the Shimmerglades, the sanctuary of the veela, a massive forest in the heart of France where the trees stretch to the sky, easily navigated by the Veela in their avian forms. Dimensional magic kept it inaccessible to all but the veela, but the ancient magic has faded. There are castles and abandoned homes perched on the petrified branches, from a time when the race flourished. Wizards have finally located it over hundreds of years of searching in secret, and with its protections fading, are poised to destroy it.

This is the culmination of wizardkind's push to crush the veela society, who are vicious when backed against the wall and are willing to do everything in their power to live, graying the question of who is good and who is bad.

Hatred and paranoia of veela, accumulated over thousands of years as they used their power to secure the places of the highest comfort and luxury, lording over humans. In recent times, a semblance of tolerance and acceptance seemed to replace this, but the disappearance of the protective magics and sudden vulnerability of the veela, for the first time, causes a sharp regression. Wizards have long, long memories.

This sets Fleur as a femme-fatale figure, sly and having successfully deceived Harry, but is ultimately fighting for her home, heritage, and people, while Monsieur Dellacouer is doing all he can to protect his daughters, and consorts Dark wizards who are all too eager to be recruited against the French Republic, even if it means an alliance with veela.

It's ultimately a story of how 'civilized' and 'progressive' a society really is, where longer lifetimes and Pensieves ensure that memories fade slowly, and sustain hatred and grudges much longer than in the real world.

The story could continue as Harry arrives at the entrance of the vast realm of the veela, peering up at the distant canopy, many many leagues above, intent on finding Fleur again.

    Edit:
Yes, I agree. The proper foreshadowing, and hints of old hatreds would be key. At the point where I left off, you can go in branching directions. The linearity ends with Harry trying to track down Fleur, and they

You came up with that on the fly Andro? Epic. It'd be interesting to see especially because the author could take Harry in so many directions from where you bunny leaves off. What does he do? He may sympathize with the Veela and like Gabby/the Delacours, but Fleur just left him to die in a fire.

I think the key would be working in the background info about the old grudges and past wars. Even if the the mystery and the characterizations are done well the rationale needs to be understandable.

Also, knowing Harry's nature of 'fighting for the right/innocent', Fleur might try to convince him to help her.

She might even try to brainwash him, or to try and mentally break him in order to secure his aid. This could evolve into a sub-plot where Harry becomes unsure of his allegiance/decisions and/or becomes disillusioned with wizarding kind, and/or where Fleur eventually and accidently gets 'too deep' into her pressed role of 'handling' Harry, and starts to genuinely care for him.

Fleur could even screw up, or there could be unforseen results, and Harry ends up being twisted so that he becomes jaded, cynical and crazy. (I wouldn't say 'Dark', as that would just be an easy route for the author to go. Disturbed and less sane would be better descriptions for it).
