FF.net is still listing us at 1692 subscribers - can anybody confirm how accurate this number is? It just seems strange that the number of subscribers would stop short like that instead of trickling in at twos and threes at a time.

That number has to be wrong, I created at least 10 new email accounts and subscribed all within the past 2 months. And that number was the same number I saw each and every time I subscribed.

Well, I really hate to break it to you, man, but that might have been part of the problem!

Seriously, I thought at the beginning of this, we made the rule NO multi-subscribers, because we wanted to win this legitimately, and we didn't want anything suspended if ffn.net found out about this! God, you fucking moron.

And you didn't think they'd catch that? They probably discounted all of the new subscribers after that just to keep duplicate accounts down to a dull roar.

    Fucktard.

I thought we were unofficially racing LessWrong for 'supreme domination of this fandom'..?

Well at least you took a well-thought out, considerate and sensible course of action in the interests of the entire commu-

    Owait.

'Benefit'... :facepalm ...it's written in plain English.

The frozen subscriber number has been brought up several times now.

I have to say the description of the C2 bugged me as the phrasing was...odd to say the least. Unnecessarily Capitalized Words Are Unnecessary.

Well shit, I didn't even think about that, sorry if it turns out to be the problem, but if it isn't then whatever.

Edit: Swim, I added them one at a time when I found the time. I didn't just dump 10 at once, I don't have that kind of time. It was more like 1 a week at the most. So how would they notice 10 different accounts from different IP addresses? (<--Clueless about how they would go about checking)

    WHAT THE FLYING FUCK, SON.

Not only could they simply delete your accounts, they could burn the whole fucking C2. It's not exaggeration in the least to say that anything associated with DLP appearing on ff.net would be starting waaay behind the 8-ball, since the large majority of the fandom hates us. Which is fine for 99% of the time, because fuck them.

But the one time somebody is cool enough to do something legit outside of the boards - that isn't a condescending mockery of rabid fangirls or some trolling failraid, but actually contributes to the fandom in a positive way - shit like this comes up that potentially jeopardizes everyone's efforts. Not just the efforts of active members, but of those lurkers who might have strayed across this thread once, but otherwise can't be fucked to check it again - because they've done their part, will stick to the library as they had before, and be blissfully ignorant of the potential fuckery that could go down.

Let's be clear: I'm not naive enough to believe that you're the only one who's followed through with making multiple accounts. Logic dictates that you are probably one of many who have done so; if anything, ten accounts is rather tame compared to what one could've done in a similar timeframe.

But since you were dumbshit enough to admit to it, if enembee's C2 gets the axe, I'm blaming you.

I'm pretty sure that we decided that NMB has to look at the control page of the C2 in order for the number of subscribers to update. Don't know if we still believe this but NMB?

Well, I gathered that, but I mean, whence the origin of this term "gen"? Is it short of "General" relationships?

Yes, Gen is short for General. Blaise has the right of it on what it means.

The multi-subscriber dude says that he did it over a reasonable period of time, not all once, and from different ip addresses. Granted that is still "cheating" and we might not have wanted to do that, but it sounds like maybe you should give him a bit of break since he seems to have done it correctly to avoid trouble at least?

I subscribed and was surprised that the number has been at 1692 or whatever for a long time now.

But I wasn't surprised that there are multi subscribers. I signed up to DLP C2 before reading this thread and thought that was your whole gist of it, considering the way you guys come from no where and ass-fucked some people incredibly fast, I believed it couldn't be anything BUT multi-subscribers. I'm happy to learn I am wrong that wasn't your intention, even if that's what most likely happened :)

Still Potions and Snitches definitely has them, they have been ranked number 2 constantly for a long time now without their subscriber base growing or decreasing significantly, then suddenly DLP takes over, and a little while after Potions and Snitches suddenly shoot up 200 subscribers after a long period of stable subscribers? I smell something fishy.

Sorry guys, you should have chucked me a PM or raised it on IRC and I'd have had FFNet update our actual number of subscribers.

Don't panic so hard, I just checked the actual number and we're at 1818. 14 more than Potions and Snitches or whatever its called. When FFNet updates we'll be back to 2. Not to mention reigning IDPH in hard.

Well at least now people know not to multi-subscribe in the future. Way to bring awareness to the issue Hello. You have spared all future multi-subscribers the ass-raping they would have received (if they admitted their mistake). Such a selfless man.

Still, the first post should be edited. I hardly think new members will actually read nearly 40 pages worth of posts, just to find out if they can multi-subscribe.

I hadn't noticed until just now, when you mentioned it.

    :facepalm
You've posted less than 90 times since the beginning of 2009; why do you even care enough to make fraudulent accounts?

I posit that you have exactly one account too many... and that it may be the one you have here. Don't be a tardbot.

There we go, back to #2.

For the record Hello, I for one appreciate your efforts, even if they were reprehensible and misguided ;D

Actually, I think the fact that the C2 is doing so well is counter to that. If DLP were so reviled, I don't think as many people would have signed-up. Taking that further just a bit, I think it is safe to assume that the reputation established by DLP is where it is known for quality fics, thus explaining the C2's success further.

I guess that reputation is also one of assholes, dicks, etc. (The usual names thrown about), but despite that people realize this is a bastion of both well-written stories and authors.
