I'm pretty sure you have to buy it. It requires authorization on login.

If someone has it already they can gift code you a cheaper version, as is, you can play the classic version on the site for free, and the survival version for 20 something bucks.

Got a hold of it, playing the offline single player version, but the graphics are a bit weird, I guess it's some sort of fog effect? But it looks like there's doubling of the image in some cases.

Nm it was the 3d option, it defaulted on

Questions. Where the fuck is coal. I KNOW what the wiki says, but I'll be goddamned if I can find it, and any tips? I keep falling off of ladders for some reason =/

I was getting mad as shit, so I boxed myself in and started hollowing out a mountain literally in the dark because I didnt know about the whole shelter yourself up deal. I also did not know monsters spawn in the dark, so I kept hearing noises, turned around to several of those bomb monsters, lol. Inside a sealed up tight behind a door bunker =/

Rule of thumb: Create a very small outside shelter your first few days outside. Find coal on the outside of lower cliff faces. I know it seems like a real cunt to find, but it is there.

Don't go inside a cave or mountain without light, just don't.

Generated a few different worlds, and got one I like. Tons of caves, bunch of treed hill tops jutting out of water, and a fucking Titanic load of coal inside some of the caves. Took over a small cave straight out, built out from it in an expanding U, threw a second floor on it, started adding glass windows.

By day 3 I'd expanded the second floor to cover the bottom half of a small forest, so I don't really need to go outside. I've found I get distracted, and I havent even dug down deeper then maybe 8 tiles total. I can't seem to get the hang of how water works in this game, really strange. The amount of volume doesn't ever seem to matter, it tends to just do what it wants.

It spreads seven blocks then stops, so don't expect it to full up any pools for you.

Make a 2x2 hole and put 2 source blocks diagonally to have infinite water. Use buckets to acquire source blocks (also used on lava) which you make with iron ingots. The water is a bit unpredictable and it can be difficult to get it to do what you want. It took almost 3 days in game to set up the waterfall that disguised the entrance to my old mountain fortress, and I'd already carved out exactly where I wanted it to go:(

I'm trying to get out of the mindset of blocky fortresses. Is there anyway view a map or something, it's stupid easy to get lost.

If you get a world you really really like but you can't find any coal, you can also just burn wood with planks in a furnace to get charcoal. Or burn planks with wood. I always forget which...

Either way, it's a perfectly viable substitute for coal - if there's something you can use coal for but not charcoal, I don't know about it.

I'd like to Giz, but considering I just had to spend 30$ for a new monitor cable, and my unemployment qualifying week is up next week (you have to miss 1 week each year to be qualified, during which week you don't get anything) spending 15$ on a cool game isn't going to happen, like for a long time, so I don't have the legit version.

How does multiplayer work, you can steal each other's resources and stuff? Wreck each other's stuff? Hopefully there's some sort of stopgap on that. Finally started digging a quarry and had some lulz as about 30 blocs down suddenly fell down to one heart into a massive cavern.

Having a few problems with the game atm, after about 2-10 minutes it'll black screen and stop running, it'll save my position in the world, but it'll wipe out anything I've done in the last few minutes. Supposed to be some sort of Java problem according to google.

Built this cool tower jumping up and placing the blocs beneath my feet, and with two buckets worth of water I managed to split the streams enough to cover the tower 360*. What I couldnt show due to it crashing, was how freaking awesome this looked at night. I rode up the waterfalls placing blocks, and torches underneath the blocks, so it lit up and looked cool as hell.

As for the map, I just started building straight up jumping and placing the blocs beneath my feet, and I scope out the map from there.

I'm pretty sure using planks as fuel and burning actual wood will give a better return rate.

Rambling play review, been up like 36 hours.

I just stopped playing o_O Started at 1:30am and I can't tell you what the hell I accomplished. Built a rectangular fort inside a huge hill, had to spent at least 2 hours cutting down, came across a metric fuck ton of obsidian, yay me with the stone pickaxe. Eventually found diamonds to cut it. I've got probably a bagillion torches underground to keep the monsters at bay. Doesnt seem to keep the monsters from dive bombing me from ledges in several of the caverns that have to be a 50-100 blocks high at least.

Constant monster sounds underground driving me crazy, very annoying. I've gotten a ton of stone, a full suit of iron, barely any gold, a few diamond pickaxes, 30 obsidian, more coal then I can carry, and all I have done productively is having a nice stair case. Blow several hours to literally click on blocks. Didnt build anything else underground, was too busy trying to find iron, and then wound up bumping into lava everywhere. Some really nice lava fountains.

I can understand why this game's so huge for folks who like to show off by building something awesome, but I was frustrated far more then I was enjoying it. Collecting 60 stone in a row with the left mouse button just help down can get hypnotic as hell. I really hate when you die and you loose all your shit because you when to snag a resource and had a million pound pillar of gravel drop on your head.

Will play more, but with a timer limiting it, it's too hypnotic.

Mid, you know you can go to hell by building a gateway out of the Obsidian, right?

Very important things to keep in mind, Midknight:

    1) Never dig straight up. Gravel/sand/etc. will fall and suffocate you, as you've seen.
    2) Similarly, never dig straight down. You can fall into dark caves full of monsters, or just straight up fall in lava.
    3) If, somehow, you run out of coal and simply can not find more, you can always burn logs to make charcoal. It is functionally identical.

Other than that, it looks like you've got the general idea down. You should probably make some chests to store your shit, though, and always, always bring some food (or the materials to make it) with you when you go spelunking. A fuckload of wheat (which is easy to farm) will make more bread than you know what to do with.

Also, we needs a Mumble (or Vent or TeamSpeak - Mumble is better though...overlay ftw). The ingame chat gets in the way sometimes. D: I almost died from a skeleton I couldn't see through the chat.
