And half the remaining words are about characters you don't really like because of the chick-bickering and hammer-axe-erectile complex which just bores you to death.

BUT the remaining half is so good that not only you'll wet your pants but you'll be willing to read those 3.5 fucking million words and even then you still won't be able to wait for the next books - which incidentally still narrate the unpassionate desert travelling of the same cunts. I don't think I need say more.

So yeah, WoT despite its flaws is something I highly recommend. If you have two months to dedicate to that task.

That aside, this thread isn't probably the best place but I wanted to ask if anyone knows a good book written in Swedish which is easy-to-read and has vivid imagery to practice the language; I tried Stieg Larsson's books but it is a bit too complex and he as the only Swedish author that comes to my mind; and before anyone says the HP books: just no, no, no. Translations suck and are for pussies.

Two months? More like three weeks. And I recommend it as well. I might be one of the few people in the world who didn't mind or at times enjoyed the attention to detail.

Three weeks if you are a speed-reading zombie. I meant two months for normal people who actually sleep, eat and have jobs or studies to attend to D:

Sleep and Eat? You do that when you're reading Wheel of Time?

But yeah, I always save my reading for the holidays.

Possibly the original swedish version of Let the Right One In, by John Lindqvist, or Låt den rätte komma in. Enjoyable, sparse writing style that might be easier to read. Sadly, I've only read the english version, but hopefully it'll be good.

Took me about a month, because exams got in the way, and Towers of Midnight released 2 days after I completed The Gathering Storm. :awesome

Hmm. It's hard to find epic fantasy nowadays with a single POV.

I'd recommend Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series, which does have an alternating POV, but unlike The Way of Kings, he limits it to two per book.

Personally, I hated Lev Grossman's The Magicians, but it does have a single main POV character and a detailed magic system.

And if you haven't read the old-school stuff yet, Michael Moorcock's Elric series is something every fantasy fan should read at least once.

I can read every Dresden book in a week, but a single WoT book would take longer. Becayse they're so. Damn. Boring. The first was amazing and I wish I'd left it at that.

As for 'Let the right one in' I watched the original film with subtitles and it was amazing. I imagine the book would be fantastic too.

The Earthsea books. Well, the first three, at least. Absolute must reads.

Just finished reading 'Best Served Cold' by Joe Abercrombie (he of the First Law trilogy). It's set in the same universe, with appearances from a few of the more minor characters, and just as good as that series. A charming tale of revenge, murder, revenge, betrayal, revenge, war, revenge, cynicism, revenge, and just a touch of twisted sex to sweeten the deal. Oh, and revenge. Definitely worth checking out.

Then you dont want to forget No More Heroes by the same author and set in the same universe.

Enders Game? Any good? Ive got the 1st book but I'm hesitant to commit to a series just based on the blurb.

Don't worry, I haven't - I've just got a stack of books to read before I get anymore (and it hurts just saying that, actually...)

Eh. It's an enjoyable enough read, if you don't try to poke logic-shaped holes in it. Honestly, I think the sequel, Speaker for the Dead is really the only book worth reading in the series. Xenocide and Children of the Mind were both awful.

I have just finished the Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins and I can only recommend it. It has its issues and flaws but overall, it was an enjoyable read, all three of them, even though the first one was the best. Nothing outstanding but still, rather good.

One of the Borders locations here in Nashville just closed, and they had a fire sale on *everything* in the store. Besides a truckload of books, I bought four of their 8'x3' bookshelves, and an enormous two-piece bookshelf/entertainment center monstrosity. Where they're all going, I haven't a clue.

The point, however, is that now we have a place for most of the books still boxed up from our move a year ago, and now that I'm digging them out, I ran across one of my favorite little-known* books.

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe isn't remotely new, and isn't remotely fantasy or sci-fi. That said, it is a very moving story about tribal life in Nigeria during colonialism. I remember being blown away the first time I read it, and it hasn't lost any of its power and sadness in subsequent readings.

*Might actually be more well-known than I'm giving it credit for, but it certainly wasn't required reading when I was in high school or college.
