An idea just came to me.

    HP/Reaper crossover.

James wasn't the father of the Harry instead Devil himself was. Now he wants Harry to work for him to bring the apocalypse.

Uh. So, the plot would be about how Harry has to either kill or redeem his father, Satan? Or maybe he joins the dark side and ends the world? What're you going for here?

Could be interesting if it was post series and the souls he had to collect were Death Eaters or Voldemort.

A little idea I had inspired by the movie with the same title. Aberforth Dumbledore is not just a little brother of more famous Albus Dumbledore, but also ex-Unspeakable and part of movement in this organization that was experimenting with unorthodox ways to make stronger connection with magic (like using Muggle's New Age philosophy).

Now seeing that there is no way Harry will be able to defeat Voldemort with skills he has, Albus decide that he needs his brother help to discover the Power He Knows Not that is hiding in the Boy Who Lived. Hilarity ensues.

Harry Potter and The Hydra's Blood

in year four Hogwarts is host - instead of the insanely dangerous Triwizard - of the "Hydran Games" with nine schools, hogwarts one from W. Europe which is Beauxbatons, one from Eastern Europe which is Durmstrang, ones from Russia South America North America, Japan and one from Egypt. The story will be part of a four year series, and the North Americans will be major players in year 7. the point of the stories is to write a plot where Voldemort never achieves a sudden rise to power and hides as the MoM moronically shoves their heads up their asses, but instead fear builds as he works in the shadows with just a few followers. The British know he is back but can do nothing as he attempts to affect the world from the shadows. he will continue creating consistently more powerful bodies as the years go on.

It seems like you mushed together several different bunnies, heading in different directions.

The title offers one idea- what's the value of a Hydra's blood? The mondo-competition seems like an opportunity to open up comparisons between all the different cultures, just to give Hogwarts a black eye. The intention to make North America prominent is both disappointing and irritating- why them? What makes North America more important than any other hidden culture? It's not like television is part of the wizarding world, so American values and cultural influence should be minimal.

(adding to the rant) and Why JAPAN? There's a billion Chinese on the planet but every third fanfiction journeyman thinks multi-cultural = a visit to Mt. Fuji. They're remoras- dwarf culture pirates who had their delusions of grandeur smashed quite admirably about 66 years ago. Move on.

What does seem interesting is the idea of a Voldemort that doesn't act like invading the British Ministry is a supreme achievement. The stumbling block here is 'how do you present Voldemort's worldwide infiltration?' Would you write from his perspective, or Snape's? Perhaps Harry takes the ultimate risk and agrees to join Voldemort in hopes of defeating the genius from within his organization.

    Just my tuppence.

Errr... no. I think no. So many things would go wrong by writing "Americans will be major players" in a HP fanfiction, at least that's what I think.

    But this:
can make a good terrorist!Voldemort story :awesome

    EDIT: sorta Ninja'd by Wordhammer.

    Isn't Voldemort already a terrorist?

If you see it that way, then maybe yes, he already is. But from my viewpoint, I always pictured him as sort of in "Rebellion" category. Or maybe "Revolutionary". He aim for taking over the government, by gathering big numbers of follower, building his own army. He assaulted ministry and later Hogwarts.

Terrorist spreading their ideology by means of terror, with lower numbers of group members. And as far as I know, their goal isn't involving taking over a government, much less declaring a war or doing an open, all-out battle like Voldemort did.

As soon as I saw 'Hydra's Blood', I automatically thought 'CTHULU!'

And then a creepy "some Old One has taken a peverse interest in Harry, and awakens some ancient blood within him" (kind of like this old Kim Possible story) thought came to me, set inside of the Second Task after rescuing the hostages:

Hmm. Would be a good read.

Read the book of the same title; it's much better than the relatively mediocre movie.

I'm sorry did we read the same series? Voldemort doesn't have large numbers of followers, he has a relatively small group of devoted Death Eaters until he takes the Ministry. And how on earth can you argue he doesn't spread his ideology by means of terror? He blows up bridges, murders his opposition in the night, and frightens the opposition into silence and terror.

He never "declares an all out open war". He takes over the Ministry by assassinating key members and putting the others under the Imperius curse. He never "assaults the Ministry." The closest thing that comes to that is the DOM fight, which is an attempted theft and then a skirmish between two small groups, neither of which is the ministry.

There is exactly one "assault" or "pitched battle" in the entire series, and that's the final battle at Hogwarts after Voldemort has already achieved his goals and IS THE GOVERNMENT.

I didn't say he doesn't spread his ideology by means of terror, Tenages. What I mean to say is they (Voldemort and terrorist in RL) both using terror in their actions, but the things that differ them are the numbers of their group members and their goal. I'm sorry if I didn't state that clearly.

But maybe you're right: Voldemort only has small group members until they've taken over the ministry. I just get the impression that Voldemort has larger number of Death Eaters from the DH trailer.

But I'm still thinking that terrorist in RL never aim for taking over a government. Terrorist in RL using means of terror to spread their ideology, giving warnings to their enemies, and to inflicting fears towards people, but never for taking over a government. Unlike Voldemort, who clearly aim for that. But of course, I don't really know what is the terrorist true goal, so maybe I was wrong here too.

That bugged me a little. How exactly Voldemort gains more followers after he takes the Ministry? Open recruitment? Forcing people to join Death Eater? I don't remember he did something like that in either the books and the movies. But, then again, I'd never finished reading the book.

IMO the Death Eaters are a bit like the Taliban, in terms of their proportional numbers, strength, and "achievements." As with the Taliban, you could use multiple words to describe them, depending on your point of view; there isn't a hierarchy where "terrorist" is lower than "rebel," which is lower than "revolutionary."

Interesting comparison, and now that I think about it quite a good one. An ideologically motivated force that uses terrorism and more conventional small unit tactics to create an entirely new political order, while claiming to be restoring the polity to an earlier status quo.

Because wizarding England is not geographically centralised, there are differences in tactics, but apart from that they're quite similar. I always thought of the Death Eaters as a terrorist group who never quite realised they'd become a cult, simply because their stated aspirations were so at odds with what Voldemort seemed to actually desire.

the hydra's blood is just a title idea and obviously poor as it suggests something that isn't important.
the purpose is definitely not to make Hogwarts look bad, it is one of the most premiere schools there is according to canon, I just want to have a large pool of interesting characters to use, and have a fourth year plotline that isn't rehash
What I meant was that the Americans will be coming back in 7th year to Hogwarts again, I have no interest in getting any more into American Wizarding culture than little nuances just as all cultures will be covered slightly
I have no interest in China, but I didn't realize Japan was so over-used until I looked it up, I dig samurai culture and some formal customs so I thought Japan would be a cool place to have a school from, I was going to avoid all the -chan -sama -san crap, I just figured I would have places all over the world, what do you think? perhaps India? Also I left out Australians which will be another group in play in the school part
after more talk with my partner in writing, Voldemort is only active in Britain, and the ministry covers up his crimes due to a fear of panic, they just don't want to admit who is performing acts of terrorism

Ah, well, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. For the most part.

However, would you believe there is no internationally accepted definition of terrorism? There are over a hundred in use around the world. A lot of them carry key elements of similarity. I hacked one together from various other definitions:

'The systematic use of politically motivated violence against civilians or non-combatants in order to advance a political, religious or ideological cause by creating an atmosphere of fear in a wider audience than that of its immediate victims.' (Joe, 2011).

Key elements are in bold. Voldemort attacking that bridge in London was a terrorist attack, if we stick to canon.

Have a look at this article, if you want: http://www.international.ucla.edu/article.asp?parentid=47153

Basic premise of Four Wave Theory to terrorism. We're currently in the religious wave, which will probably last another 40 years thanks to 9/11. Voldemort would probably be a 'New Left' terrorist, which primarily used kidnapping/assassination to achieve given aims - such as overthrowing governments. Cuba, anyone?

Although, overall, did the Ministry declare war against Voldemort? Was that ever explicitly stated? If so, then it adds justifications to his cause beyond simple revolutionary terrorism.

Hmm... there could be an interesting fic in there somewhere. Or then again maybe not.

Speaking of foreign cultures, are there any decent Chinese-raised!Harry stories around?
I have an idea or two of that (which does NOT involve Shaolin monks in anyway).

Methinks an Indian(the Asian, not Aboriginal North American)Raised!Harry story has potential too.
