This isn't surprising, they did the same thing with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Eh, as long as it's available eventually.

It's not that bad, actually. I'm guessing 300+ hours of gameplay should be able to keep you entertained during those 30 days. If not, there are always mods which will inevitably begin popping out, hours after the game release.

Which will all be much, much bigger, more expansive, more interesting, more creative, infinitely cooler, and just plain better then any of the DLC Bethesda will throw out there.

On the lore side, I'm curious how they'll handle this. I doubt I know as much about it as others in the thread, but isn't the main character always the same 'hero', being reincarnated? In which case, wouldn't becoming a deadric prince at the end of Shivering Isles throw that off?

Morrowind and Oblivion had too much overlap to be a reincarnation. They were set within, what, two to four years of each other?

As far as I know, the lore only says that each of the game heroes were prophesied heroes of the Elder Scrolls. Morrowind touched on reincarnation in that you were the reincarnation of a war hero from centuries before who'd been murdered by his companions/wife, but I don't think any of the other games had anything like that.

Anyone else think that developing DLC, even in the planning phase, will a game is still months from release is fucking retarded? Money-grubbing assholes...

Your right - 6 years. Still, I could have sworn I read that in the wiki at some point.

If the disc is full, then it's fine. If not, and it's just unlocking content on the disc...

On the one hand, the pre-planning of DLC means it's less likely to be something as ridiculous as horse armour. On the other, it's the reason all my friends are waiting for the GOTY edition instead of buying Skyrim upon release.

The fact that they're already planning it, doesn't really smack of money grubbing to me, if only because it's not only expected (they've been doing DLC since Oblivion), but it's pretty much industry standard now.

Whether or not it's money grubbing, or an acceptable alternative expansion/income method from expansion packs generally depends on the quality of the DLC themselves.

Borderlands DLC, reasonably priced, mini-expansions for the game.

    SIMS DLC, money grubbing bullshit.

That said, I don't think anyone actually likes DLC.

I have never in my life bought a DLC pack unless it came with the game. Never. If I want something added onto my game I'll download a fucking mod.

I don't really see the big problem. If half the game was missing and required another $50 to buy, that would suck, but it's not, it's just some little add-on or quest. It could be an entire expansion quest, like the Borderlands or Fallout DLCs, which would be awesome, because I love both of those games's expansion things. No big nothing to rage over, really.

    Heavy Morrowind spoilers ahoy:

The protagonist in Morrowind was a sort-of reincarnation of the Nerevar - Azura pretty much cheated and kept grooming different people to step into the role and when each one failed said 'whelp guess they aren't the real Nerevarine'. Then the protagonist went on to kill Almalexia to avenge Sotha Sill and possibly killed Vivec too and then wandered off to Akavir, at which point all hell breaks loose in Morrowind. Vivec disappears (possibly killed by Nerevar, possibly because, with the destruction of the Heart of Lorkhan, his divinity has a shelf-life now) and the Ministry of Truth (which is a moon from Oblivion, and was thrown at the city by one of Vivec's many, many enemies, and frozen in place by his power so that if the Dunmer people ever stop loving him, he can unfreeze it and fuck them over - he's kind of a dick like that) promptly slammed into Vvardenfall, causing Red Mountain to explode, pretty much destroying the entire island and covering most of Morrowind with ash.

Oh, and the Nords, Orcs, and Argonians all invaded, too. The only parts of Dunmer territory still under Dunmer control are Solstheim and the Telvanni territories.

Meanwhile, Azura's laughing like crazy, because she seriously has a hate-on for the Dunmer for dumping her to go worship the ALMSIVI (ALMalexia sotha SIl VIvec, for those of you that never made that connection). Just as planned.

So no, they can't be the same person.

Nope. The Elder Scrolls refuse to have anything to do with the Daggerfall period, going blank if the Moth Priests try to focus them on it. This is because there was a 'dragon break' - in-universe, it's what happens when shit so serious goes down that it breaks time. Out-of-universe, it's what happens when a game has six different and mutually-exclusive endings and when it came time to write the sequel, the writers said "they're all canon!"

Read the Oblivion book 'The Warp in the West', the Morrowind book 'Where Were You When The Dragon Broke?' and the book in both 'The Dragon Break Re-Examined' if you've got a powerful need to try to wrap your head around it. And keep in mind that the same thing probably happened when the ALMSIVI and Dagoth Ur tapped into the power of the Heart of Lorkhan, which is likely the cause of all the confusion re: who really betrayed Nerevar.

And remember that it seems that the only ones that can remember the true and whole events of a Dragon Break are those who have achieved CHIM, which is a whole other can of worms.

    Update;

-Imperial Legion is a confirmed joinable faction.
-No shields/torches/bows in the left hand, despite previous promises. Weapons and spells are still both.
-Hand-to-hand is no longer a skill, and doesn't have any perks.
-Pickpocketing took it's place, apparently
-No spellmaking in game seems confirmed as well, though pretty much expected. I am disappoint.
-An article where the writer was given a hands-on demo.
    -Pets confirmed (dogs, possibly others)
-August 30th interview with Todd, discussion of AI and questing, among others

And a new gameplay demo/trailer is coming out on monday. Possibly.

    This.

And anyway, spellmaking is more fun in the Construction Set anyway.

The release date is two months from now. Stop adding features already. Focus on streamlining, efficiency, and BUGS.

It's Bethesda. Most of the bugs will probably be handled in the month or so after release, and several things will be left to the moders. That said, most of the features have probably been added already. Now, it's just them announcing 'new' content in order to get hype up as much as possible.

Yeah, they're not adding brand new features, they're just revealing stuff.
