Mages in Oblivion were always a bit... underpowered.
I suggest getting a kick ass Orc with a huge battleaxe. If anything, it will be fun.

I think you definitely want to do a warrior at least once - max strength, endurance, etc. It's the 'default' class and consequently the easiest to not screw up as well.

Combat/melee. Be an Orc or a Nord, grab a blade of some kind and a shield if you can hold it. Pile on heavy armor. Most things will go squish before you even hit them. If you don't want to try that, be a Redguard with healing magic in your off hand.

If it's still to hard, you can always turn down the difficultly slider, then turn it back up when you've got the hang of it.

Assuming Skyrim has a difficulty slider?

Thief is a fun class at the start if you have a lot of patience but it's easier to just smash 'n' slash.

It does. I think that'll be a standard feature in TES games from now on.

May be a stupid question, but do I need to know the story of the earlier games? Never really got around to play the series but this game looks more than awesome.

It's not needed. Every game has it's own plot.

Nope, not at all. The stories are linked, but not so much that you need to know the previous ones. Like how you don't need to see Batman Begins to enjoy the Dark Knight, or whatever.

I'm going Nord for the first play through - my Oblivion character was a female Nord based off Paksenarrion; he'll be a descendant of hers. Second play through is the thief/assassin. I'm going with a male Wood Elf for this one, and the last play through will be my Mage character. I can't decide between Breton and Altmer.

You also get a badass huge dragon. I'm guessing he didn't get the CE, but rather the normal one. My bad. :nyan:

Uhh... Yeah. That's why I said 'I think it'll be a standard in TES games from now on.

The 'Game for Windows' thing kinda ruins the art :|

If I'm not mistaken the enemies are not scaled like in oblivion.

    Edit:
Never mind I'm wrong also very sad now. I hate level scaling.

They scale but apparently not as 'perfect' as Oblivion.

    Yes, and no.

Each area has a level range that they lock into when you visit the area.

An area can be 15-20 If you go in at under 15 it'll be locked at 15. From 15 -20 the level you go in at, and for above 20 it'll be locked in at 20.

    Make sense?

Hmm, if that's the case then maybe in this game it would be a good idea to level a lot early?

In Oblivion, leveling was a total whore unless you played in a truly systematic fashion or you modded. It was mostly about skilling up certain skills under certain attributes by a certain bloody amount so you could increase all your attributes each time you level.

In this game, each time you level you get to increase one attribute by 10 points regardless of what you've done or what you've skilled up, and the only attributes are magicka, stamina, and health. You also get a skill perk point.

This changes things completely. Now you want to level up, so that you can reach the higher dungeons. You also want to level to get 1 skill perk point. Getting certain skills high is now only important to get you to unlock the higher skill perks.

As we play this game more, I'm betting we'll be saving lots of skill perks for the higher teir perks. We'll get only the prereq's, then spam all the cool shit. :D

Fuuuucccckkkkkkk me, I'm looking forward to this. My girlfriend won't see any of me for a month. /fangasm
