Just over 60 hours played on my first character and I realised I have barely done anything. I haven't even been to Solitude yet.

I may actually put in 300 hours for this character.

    Also,

What you did there, I see it.

Uh...no? I'm more impressed by things actually relevant to me, like when I was on a companion quest and I walked across a group of thugs in imperial armor. They said they were "uh... Soldiers" and they requested a 100 gold "tax". Of course, I'm in the army and I called them on their bullshit, then killed them all. I then discovered the corpses of the real imperial officers nearby.

So because it doesn't apply to you it isn't cool? Don't be silly, it's a nice little touch.

Hey, you know what's completely awesome? Using Fury to make deer attack you so that they don't run away. :3

Picked this baby up today. This is my first time ever playing the Elder Scroll series.

I wanna make a Dunmber Battle Mage. Any idea which I should level up first?

For some reason Deer, elk, rabbits, and foxes don't run away from me when I approach them most of the time. And then I kill them with an axe.

Huh, lucky for you then. When I play as my warrior I have to chase deer for ages if I don't get the drop on them.

Always focus on your combat skills first - I'm assuming destruction and one-handed based on your class.

This will help immensely as most enemies begin to take quite a bit of damage as you progress and if you have poor offensive stats and level up skills like smithing the enemies will get harder and you will die quite easily as you will be doing the same damage as you would at lower levels.

If you are charging into fights then you will want to wear armour - light or heavy - to soak up enemy damage. Wearing armour has no adverse effects on your magic which is nice.

Alchemy is something that helps as well - particularly restore health and magicka potions which are quite easy to make.

Thanks. I've been watching the gameplay on Youtube with people I guess enchanting their weapons/heavy armor and go in guns blazing.

It would be smart to take the Mage Stone right?

Depends on whether you're going primarily magic or sword for your battlemage.

I have to recommend a mod called Vals Crafting Meltdown.

It's a nice addition to the crafting system, letting you break down items into their appropriate components. You can melt down armor and weapons for metal ingots or leather and bows into wood.

You can also melt down those items meant for decoration like plates, goblets and iron pots. Break down rings and necklaces for the jewels and craft arrows.

It's not overpowered though, considering you've still got to go out and collect all that junk, minding your weight limit. You also don't get the gold you'd have gotten for selling that stuff.

I also recommend this carry weight mod if you're a packrat like me. It increases your carrying capacity each time you put a point into stamina. Pretty handy.

What? I still haven't found any recipes for healing potions(besides the one the barkeep tells you at riverrun, to which i don't have the mats) and it's killing me.

Go into your inventory, then into the ingredients menu, and "use" (read: eat) each of the ingredients you have once. It will reveal one of the effects each ingredient has and give you some simple combinations to make potions from.

EDIT: The mountain flowers you find everywhere are great for restorative potions. Blue restores health, Red restores magicka, and Purple restores stamina. (this is just off the top of my head, I may have the blue and purple flowers mixed up)

This should help you with alchemy. Yes it takes away from the adventure, but it's damn useful.

Someone posted a link to that article on the Bethesda forums and raged about how untrue it was. Needless to say, when I informed him that Christwire was a parody website and the article was trolling, lulz were had.

I was pretty pissed off by the stealth DRM update Steam forced on us a little while ago. Was using the Large Address Aware mod to use more RAM, and the new update stopped that. It also started giving me CTD's every ten or so minutes, and missing textures everywhere. Luckily, someone ported the 4 gigs of RAM mod from New Vegas, and that seems to have fixed my problems, and it works with the new update, so I'd highly recommend it.

I generally like Steam, but the forced update did piss me off. Looking forward to next actual update though (and the CK that is rumored to come with it).

Just out of curiosity, what platform are you guys playing on?

PC here. A fairly low end one, though, so I can't really run the game to it's best, but I'd still rather play it on this than a console simply because, well, mods.
