All kidding aside, I'm really, really thirsty now. And scared shitless for our future, of course; can't forget that part.

330 million cubic miles. I think by any standards, that's really a lot of water. Showing it compared to the Earth like that makes it seem small, but I don't think it's a particularly helpful visual considering how irrelevant the volume of the Earth is.

Regardless, it's still less that I'd imagined. I had thought the oceans deeper at well.

Yeah, when people hear that 1/3 of the earth's surface is covered in water they always assume...

So does anyone want to explain to me how they calculate/estimate all that? Oceans and stuff I can understand, but measuring all the smaller bodies of water all over the world and all the water present in organic things seems like it would really difficult if not impossible to me.

I imagine it's an incredibly rough and inaccurate estimate, but it wouldn't be that hard to work out. You could work out how much water, roughly, is in each organism, and multiply it by the rough populations of each species. The smaller animals, and plants, probably make such a small difference that you can ignore them. Same with most of the small bodies of water, like ponds and stuff. All of the figures have probably been collected before, it's just a matter of adding it all up.

Not an eclipse. The eclipse that happened yesterday (day before?) as seen from the International Space Station.
