This last episode was somehow underwhelming.

It was decent, but it felt more like a mid-season cliffhanger than a true season finale.

Tbh, both season 6 and 7 felt a little off to me, like the writers were floundering for a direction to go in post-apocalypse, specifically how to top Lucifer with some new Big Bad. First we got Eve, with a fair amount of buildup talk about how badass and dangerous she is, then she dies mid-season like a little bitch. Next, Castiel randomly goes darkside and fills the villain role for the last third or so of the season 'till he die-I mean gets memory wiped.

Next we get the Leviathans, who if they weren't so numerous and damn hard to kill honestly wouldn't even rate a 5/10 on the scary-shit-o-meter. Seriously, demons are scarier than the Leviathans. Demons can throw you around the room with a thought, sick hellhounds on you and drag your ass into the pit. They can also possess just about anyone, which in practical terms amounts to the same thing as the Leviathans' shapeshifting, and they have no bizaarly distracting need to eat every person they come across. As the main villains, the Leviathans just sort of fall flat for me in almost every way.

One thing that I actually did like about the finale was burning Bobby's flask. I personally hope he stays dead, if only because the whole "main characters are always resurrected" pattern is getting old. I'm marginally okay with them bringing back Castiel again, because Loopy!Cas was actually pretty entertaining, but that was the second-to-last straw for me in that department.

Hopefully they'll get their shit together for season 8 and figure out just what the hell they plan on doing with the series.

Seems to me the whole Bobby issue was resolved really anticlimactically and didn't amount to much, and overall seemed more like filler but seeing that the way they disposed of Dick was equally disappointing, I guess it fits.

Was an okay episode but nothing really special. Next season is hopefully the last and they do something awesome with Crowley.

How did Crowley break his word, by the way? I thought the whole point of that contract was that both couldn't or was it just a "normal" contract, as in, like a regular human contract? If there were no repercussions, it seems as if they both just wasted their time there.

I get that they both knew that the other was out to screw the other but still, why make that deal in the first place then if it wasn't going to matter?

I will miss Dick, nobody could smile so deliciously disturbed. I'm wondering how long the actor trained that expression.

I think we'll probably see Dick again. He just died, but Dean is in purgatory, where Dick's soul is. It's likely he'll appear again just to taunt them.

God I want me some more dick ;)

This. The series was only planned for five seasons and the main writer left after the fifth was complete since he felt it should end there. Despite them being lower quality I've been pleasantly surprised since I was worried it would turn to complete shit after he left.

Seriously, did no one else watch the season 8 premiere?

It was interesting, but it had some telling flaws that left me (somewhat unsurprisingly) disappointed.
Sam's complete lack of surprise at Dean being back from the dead - again - came off as though it was meant to be another meta pseudo-joke, but fell flat and only served to highlight the fact that the show has been there and done that entirely too many times.

Sam quitting seemed entirely out-of-the-blue, what with him buckling down and appearing to accept his life as a hunter over the last couple of seasons. Not to mention the flashbacks of how he met the chick he fell for in the interim portrayed her as a completely unlikable, judgmental cunt.

I was also pretty annoyed that they stuck with the "skip to the resolution of last season's cliffhanger and drag the aftermath angst out over the course of the season" approach yet again. I was really hoping this season would try something new, like dedicating a good chunk of itself to Sam scrambling to figure out what happened to Dean and Castiel, while the two of them struggle to survive in Purgatory, eventually culminating in their combined efforts allowing their return to Earth.

*Sigh* I guess I'll watch at least the next couple episodes to see if they can salvage the show, but I'm honestly not expecting much anymore.

It was disappointing. Then again last season wasn't much better. I agree with Othalan, it would've been better without this angsty atmosphere.

I used to be such a Sam girl, and now he seems so ... worthless.

Apparently, Sam spent an entire year wandering around in the car. He spent what sounds like a couple of months having a relationship of sorts with a woman, and really liking a dog, and then he just ... drove off.

And that really creepily sexy/attractive monster Dean met in Purgatory was so much more ... everything.

So, no Bobby, no Castiel, Crowley's shtick got tired, Dean is an even bigger douche and hypocrite, Sam is an even bigger doormat/always the wrong one/wimp and they pretty much just jumped back into status quo with both brothers having angsty issues that they don't sufficiently talk about while trying to get something to stop someone.

Oh, and one of the brothers is working/consorting with a dark creature. Wonder how that will turn out.

I know I am a bit unfair, but really, this just seems boring to me. Not a single new idea so far. Going to stick with it for a few more episodes but it better shape up fast.

Oh, I don't know. I thought it was okay. I found Sam not looking for Dean to be pretty OOC, especially considering he just disappeared and wasn't lying there dead. Dean palling around with a vampire is pretty hypocritical considering how he treated Sam for doing something similar. But then again, a year of constant hunting can change a person. I'll be interested to see what happened to Castiel and whether he'll make an appearance. The whole closing of Hell permanently looks like a pretty good spot for a series finale though.

Now that I think about it, we've generally been disappointed with the season openers. It always got better, though.

I was highly disappointed as well, but there is no way in hell that I'm not sticking with Supernatural until the end. I doubt they can fuck up enough shit to make me not tune in every week.

Anybody here understands why this episode had significant show time about this "Thor?" character and the artifact when he had no real meaning to the episode? It felt somehow pointless to me.

I think he was mostly the comedy relief for a pretty grim episode.

Also, in "Hammer of the Gods" Thor was killed by Lucifer. I think the underlying theme is that the gods aren't dead - that might be important later. That Sam left the Hammer is annoying, though.

I am reasonably sure that was Odin.

    brb

    Yep, Odin it was.

I'll be honest, the show hasn't been great since the sixth season but like someone said above, there is no way in hell I am not sticking till the end.

I'd be embarrassed by the mistake, but it's too early in the morning to bother.
I'm just glad that I finally know how to pronounce Mjolnir.
