It's never addressed because by chapter 10 the author was basically pretending the first few chapters didn't happen since they were so awful. There's a lot of other retarded details that were quietly dropped.

There's a drastic shift in tone and quality somewhere around chapter 7 or 8.

 

Gah! That pissed me off when I read it. It's in Darth Drafter's Girl Who Loved (HP/Sailor Moon).

It's like he thought better of including that plotline, but never took out the part that alluded to it. The relevant line is near the end of the third chapter.

Read a certain way, however, it could imply that Hermione "would surely" be raped by the time she actually consciously had the chance to lose her virginity, not that she already had been. Even if that's true, however, it still leaves the whole issue of how every professor has been boning the students, and most of said students were unwilling and unaware of what happened... and then the author never speaks of it again, and no one gets punished for it.

To draw a parallel: It would be like the whole Daphne rape debacle from Clell65619's Marriage Contracts story, but instead of the perpetrator being killed in a duel and Harry marrying Daphne, everyone shrugs and Daphne is still forced to marry the old creep.

There's actually another scene in Girl Who Loved, chapter 5, where Harry tells Ranma that he lost his virginity when two unidentified girls stunned him after a DA meeting, tied him to a bed, and fucked him. Apparently his ONLY misgiving about this was that he hoped they were old enough... As if that matters when they were the ones committing sexual assault?

I remember this because there was a reviewer for his other story, The Little Veela that Could, who flat out demanded to know whether there would be rape in that story, because it was mentioned so much in Girl Who Loved and its sequel, and he/she was worried since canon-age!Gabrielle is the title character of The Little Veela that Could. The author responded by accusing the reviewer of hypocrisy -how that was supposed to work I do not know, maybe because the reviewer LISTED every instance of rape in the two Sailor Moon stories- and somewhat lamely pointing out that the reviewer was anonymous.

Edit: Ah, I completely missed that Saot beat me to it (Welcome to DLP). The review I mentioned is no longer there, but it must have been for chapter 4, since the reply is in 5.

 

I don't see a problem with this, I wouldn't exactly complain if it happened to me.

In stories involving the scene where Voldemort fails to kill Harry (where he becomes the BWL), Harry has a supernatural calm and seems almost defiant. Another variation of this is in wrong-BWL fics, when Harry's sibling is bawling his eyes out but Harry is calm as shit.

Here's how that shit would go down.

Baby's are NOT calm, rational things. It's ridiculous how badly people want their characters to come across as 'cool'.

 

I find this more irritating; I can't imagine Voldemort speaking like that. It looks like he is a small child himself, speaking like that, out of character.

This is a common problem, many authors do this. They use dialogues that are out of character for speakers; and this happens mostly with Voldemort and Dumbledore.

 

Well, I was parodying shitty stories like those, so... Besides, I'd have to disagree with you on some cases. While it's true that people write canon characters OOC, I think it also depends on the type of story. Canon Voldemort doesn't have a sense of humor, so if you're writing a comedy fic, then he'll obviously be OOC.

 

By that same logic, if you're writing an independent!Harry fic then your protagonist must be witty, charming, and calm in every situation that doesn't call for it. So a one-year-old version of Harry would be giving Voldemort a death glare and throwing his mustard-like shit at the man.

Voldemort would probably just scream, "Crucio!" :facepalm

On this note, my biggest pet-peeve in fanfiction has to be in the time-travel genre. Harry is anywhere from seventeen to a century-and-a-half old, generally. He returns to his eleven-year-old body and treats adults like they're children to their faces. He gets on his soap box and insults his teachers, maybe even insulting Dumbledore to his face in the middle of the Great Hall.

None of this, and I repeat none of this, is met with anything but bowed heads and solemn nods of contrition. Except by Snape, who is met with glares of absolute loathing from everyone as they suddenly realize all his faults from one, long tirade.

Hell, Harry will meet with Madame Bones, or some other older witch, and woo her... he's eleven, you dumb fuck of an author! When was the last time you looked at an eleven year old and the word charming fell from your lips?



More so, Harry can often get away with using magic to 'prove a point' (I'm recalling the Imperio curse on the Prime Minister in the last one I read).

He's an old man in a child's body, not a child in an old man's. He should be using cunning and masterful acting to appease those in power, thus surprising them with his knowledge, not jumping on a high-horse at every opportunity and wowing everyone with his masterful use of an ability he's supposedly had for less than a month. Fuck me...
