So I have heard about each of these mods before but never tried any of them at a large scale. I installed tekkit using its launcher but have no idea where to begin.

Any advice? (I don't know any items/recopies/mechanics right now.)

My first home in one world was a Mayan temple I had found and pilfered!

This was an awesome place, filled with secret entrances, portals and, for some reason, horses wandering about near the lavafalls. Ultimately I had to move out because it was so damn big. Heheh.

I spent a good long time setting up with Thaumcraft 2 in one of my worlds - now that is an awesome mod. I have boots which catapult me into the air, and it may just be the best thing ever.

Also played a tekkit survival map, where all the ores were found in floating spheres in the sky. Lots of fun! EE was pretty much a necessity, though.

Thaumcraft 2 is just amazing. I know we're supposed to turn our nose up at graphics and such, but it really does look good, and has a sizable amount of gameplay in it. Definitely my favorite mod to come out lately.

The 6 direction inchworm drive I posted (which got deleted with the rest of my posts D: ) is actually going to dig with Thaumcraft 2 Arcane Bores. I have this vague idea of my Death Star flying around, tearing up the landscape while killing mobs with a bunch of Runes.

It will of course also need a mob tractor beam for abducting villagers.

Man, I really need to get off my ass and finish it.

So... explain these constructions to me. What do they do?

They're actually really simple. In Redpower, the mod was designed so that a Frame Motor could never push itself. What an inchworm drive does is use two motors to get around this limitation, allowing you create mobile constructions not tethered to one area.

This is a basic inchworm motor. First, you power the bottom motor, which moves the motor above it. The top motor is then automatically powered after being moved, which pulls all the other blocks back in line.

By making six of these single direction inchworm engines you can make a device go in any direction. Then it's a simple matter of putting in some kind of digging tool, or seige weapons of some kind, if you prefer.

Here's a video someone did explaining it: Linkage.

    Edit:

Lol, you just missed a massive wall of text of me arguing the same thing, Militis, which got deleted. I'd suggest an edit.

FYI: Technic/Tekkit don't have permissions for 90% of the mods they package. They also modify said mods (again, without permission).

I feel really sorry for anyone that uses that shitpack.

    Bump?

I have no idea how to use/what to use.

Youtube only has people advertising stuff they made and not showing how they made it.

BuildCraft has no official instruction manual. You'll have to go to the BC wiki.

IndustrialCraft however does have official documentation - and you can go check it out on their wiki as well.

ThaumCraft I haven't actuallly fucked around in yet but others can probably tell you more about it.

I am using RedPower right now because I vaguely remember watching a video a year ago about how wires stick to walls and can be used with colors so they can be bundled together. Any idea where to find out more about it?

Also, are RedPower and Industrialcraft alike?

I watched a whole bunch of let's plays to get to know them all... but there are quicker ways about it.

This is a nice starting guide I also used! [link] And haven't looked through this one yet but it seems to have suggestions at the bottom of what you can do next. [link]

If you're playing on your own then play Technic pack rather than Tekkit - it's got more content, notably stuff like random dungeon generators and more creatures. You can play version 6 which is the last stable build, or the developmental build 7 which has Thaumcraft 2 in it. Thaumcraft 2. So good.

But as a basic rule, I always start out by getting rubber trees, mining a bit until I have the materials for the basic IC2 machines to start off with. IC2 has a lot to play around with - meanwhile go exploring and gather crystals if Thaumcraft 2ing, or explore random dungeons. IC2 and buildcraft will have you trying to gather lots of power, and EE gives you something to spend it all on. :3

I am gonna end up wasting weeks on this but it will be totally worth it. I just have to get some important stuff out of the way and then I am going to start on a new world.

Is there any way we can get this shit on the DLP server? No one uses it right now, it might bring back people if there is new stuff to work with.

It will probably overload the server putting all that shit on there.

On the topic of mod packs I've been using the DNS pack recently. It has industrial craft, buildcraft, and pretty much everything. My favorite addition is the Portal Mod, because when you put the pieces together correctly you can make a badass looking redstone power plant. Plus with the colored wires you can have power going pretty much anywhere. I built a pretty nice sized town and had one power plant in the center underground with wires running to each building giving them power for everything.

The server seems to be down. :<

I will fuck and bribe my way back to connectivity with the passion of a thousand suns. Please halpz. If the cost of hosting the server or something is causing these problems, I'm happy to help out, as I'm sure a few others will be.

Do we actually have a DLP server still?

Unfortunately my friends just never seemed to get into Minecraft, and while Technic is fun, I'm dying to find some people to play Tekkit with.

So I finally decided to give Minecraft a go... didn't wanna try it in Alfa stages and get hooked :p Anyone know of a good texture pack for making water look brighter and clearer? Or do you have to get one of those shader mods?

A bunch of us have a minecraft server up and running which we regularly play on, but the DLP server's been down for a long while yet. CareOtters bought the thing, so ask him about it. It's vanilla, which is fun considering the recent updates.
