You don't know 1) why he's chosen Hammerfell (maybe there's more to the story, a friend waiting for him at the border with some loot from a high profile heist or something) and 2) just how lawless Morrowind is (it's entirely possible, likely even given the sheer number of refugees, that the lawlessness in Morrowind is more of the gangs of bandits who beat up anybody travelling alone with more than rags on his back type).

Or, rather than making assumptions about that, we could just assume that the Dragonborn was crossing the Cyrodiil border right next to where he is at the beginning of the game. Occam's razor is a bitch.

... Didn't Morrowind get pretty much nuked, with the liveable (aka southern, non Skyrim-bordering) parts taken by the Aragonians?

Sure, if you want to ignore what Ralof says. But now I feel we're going around in circles.

    From the wiki.

    The facts:

The Stormcloaks are ambushed at Darkwater Crossing. The Dragonborn and Lokir are caught up in it.

This is two days before Helgen.

Lokir says "I could have been halfway to Hammerfell by now." He doesn't say that's where he was going - it's only an indication of how far away he could be from this situation if he hadn't been caught.

    --

What do you make of this? Whatever you damn well please. But there's not much more that can be said about this - it's the very opening of the game, so there isn't a lot of context.

Personally, I'd go for the option of having the Dragonborn be recognized as illegally crossing the border but evade capture, then later recognized by guards or soldiers. It solves the problem of wondering why he's far from the border when arrested and frees you up to give him whatever background you please.

If this doesn't solve your problem, I get the feeling that it'd end up as circular and spammy as you say. Ah well. In that case, just use creative license and fudge the details. Bethesda do it often enough.

Feel free to drop me a message if you want to knock back other ideas and Skyrimmage. My fic is slowly beginning to form. That makes, like, three or four of us writing Skyrim so far. *brothu'um*

I think I'm going to ignore the crossing the border info on the Dovahkiin, move the ambush to near lake Illitina (which is near where the Talos Shrine Massacre happened), have Ralof as part of the Stormcloak rebels operating in Falkreath and Ulfric being present due to having joined up with a number of his personal guards for a raid on an Imperial supply convoy that turns out to be an ambush. The Dovahkiin will be a blood-covered, rag-wearing, amnesiac Shezzarine walking right into the ambush area and getting knocked out by the Imperial Captain (who you get to kill as a Stormcloak escapee) and added as a prisoner.

Definitely planning to do so, Care. Maybe we should have one of those groups to discuss all this shit all in detail. Anway, my planning's up to the "how to kill Alduin" mess, so I might talk with you over that primarily.

Somebody mentioned a TES group somewhere up there.

I decided to go and make one here.

The group is intended 1) for prospective TES authors to share their ideas and brainstorm in a private setting, and 2) for those of us who enjoy debating the lore of TES.

I've gone ahead and took the liberty of inviting the following members to the group, since they're either accomplished Skyrim authors or have been vocal in this thread so far: Lamora, Fiat, Hashasheen, and CareOtters. If anybody else would like to join up, please PM me and I'll send you an invite.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

    Roaming, accruing charges... Please wait
Well the 30 day Xbox exclusivity ends today and no announcement of the Dawngaurd DLC.

So I went looking for one.

    http://www.xboxmb.com/forum/103-elder-scrolls-series/116959-[update-7-24]-dawnguard-pc.html

It's not the official port so it is reported to be buggy in places and isn't really playable the whole way through, but if you just cant wait this should tide you over.

Edit: Fuck... this dude is just starting to get moving through the DLC. Still better than nothing though.

Download Dawnguard. Open Dawnguard. Play Dawnguard.

Discover white trousers that glow with a faint lilac tinge. OH HELL NO. This can only be a concession towards the Twilight vampires.

Alright, I'm playing on the Xbox so I don't know how many of you will be able to offer advice, but I just maxed out pickpocketing with the perks to steal armor and items, only to discover that not one of the people in Riften I try to pickpocket has equipped weapons/items I can take. e.g. I can see the guard holding a shield, but it doesn't appear in his inventory. Any ideas? It's not just Riften by the way, it's virtually everyone, although there seems to be the odd NPC here and there that I can rob blind.

That's... very odd. I'd think it was because of the default equipment not showing up in listings thing that caused the invisible hunting bow bug for the housecarls, but I know I've stolen bows and swords off Riften guards before, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. What can you see in their inventories? Do jewels, etc. appear? Gold?

I don't think you can steal any equipped item.

I see gold, jewels, clothes, etc. However, consider one of the guards, I can steal arrows, bows, gold, etc. from them. However I can't steal their armor, helmet, equipped weapon. Yet with other guards I can steal their quipped weapons and armor, it's quite possibly the most irritating glitch ever.

Which guards? What city, which model (male or female), are you having any issue with one guard over another, or what? I dunno if I'll be able to help, aside from saying try it with another character and see if that helps. I haven't dabbled enough in the CS yet to know what the trouble might be, or know if that's even a glitch.

I figured it out! Apparently the equipped items/weapons only appear when you're completely hidden from the NPC in question. That eye is really goddam confusing sometimes.

Are you sure you were completely hidden? Apparently, if you're just sneaking but are still detected, even slightly, then you wouldn't get a chance to steal some of their equipment.

    Edit: Ninja'd. Shouldn't have left the page open while I googled ;_;
