    Emphasis mine.

I erroneously read that as "Harry's prick", but I think the sentiment comes out the same, in the end.

Read a Harry/Hermione/Luna story a week ago or so and Harry was visiting Luna at some for some reason.
When he's taking a shower, she gets in with him and like the typical guy he runs away from the naked teenage girl who it has been established he has the hots for.

Oh wait. Teenage guys don't do that. No single guy fucking does that. Either ignore sexuality in your story entirely, or portray it accurately.

Author has been watching too much anime.

I hate it when these Anime features make it into written stories. I can accept the overdrawn stereotypes of characters and exaggerated reactions in the medium of Anime itself, but not outside of it. In Anime they show the inner conflicts and emotions visually, because they would be hard to notice otherwise - but sweat drops or blood gushing from someones nose and flying into a wall from the force of it (when thinking about something naughty) is completely ridiculous in fan-fiction.

This kind of stuff also completely misses my sense of humor, so I don't accept it in those kinds of stories either.
Any kind of anime-ification of characters is almost always an instant click on the [x] for me.

Particular pet peeve: female characters hitting/kicking male characters for being annoying or a "pervert".

Addendum to the statement above: Unless they're Draco Malfoy, who should be kicked until he dies from it in any given situation.

I hate reveries. And especially characters snapping out of them. Aaaargh.

    'Sir'.

People use it to an unrealistic degree when characterizing their Harrys.

    That is all.

I'd blame JKR for that; she puts altogether too much emphasis on its use, especially in OOTP and HBP.

Well, in British schools "sir" is what most male teachers are called by students. Much quicker than saying "Mr Whydoyouhavesuchalongname".

I can understand if it's for, say, the Prime Minister or your Hogwarts professor, but they (and by they, I mean FFn authors) make him say it to every adult.

    Especially his Uncle.

It's like it's a mission to make him as polite as possible to everyone over the age of, maybe, 25.

Maybe it's just from living in the South, but I call everyone "Sir". The only exceptions are people who are younger than me or about the same age. And women, who are called "Ma'am".

South of (US) America is different from Sussex in England, much like how Japanese people bow while Westerners give a hand-shake.

I think that's the problem, actually, since most writers are American.

This is one of those things that is simply lost in translation, similar to suffixes and certain words in Japanese. This is why I'm okay with minor usage of it in Naruto/Bleach. For example, the most recent chapter of Naruto, where Naruto calls Killer B something along the lines of "eight tales bro" in Japanese that just translates horrifically into English, as seen in the above.

Similar to Ichigo's name, where it can be read as Strawberry or the number fifteen.

Authors that seem to miss basic indentation. I don't get why someone would not take the time to make sure that they used paragraphs and that the paragraphs were left-aligned. I noticed that a few authors on PatronusCharm seem to leave their paragraphs centered-aligned.

Now that you mention it, I can't stand when authors indent at the start of each paragraph in their stories. It's technically correct, but by god is it annoying to read.

Actually, Ichigo's name is 一護, which cannot be read as "fifteen" or "strawberry" except when only going by the the pronunciation. In this case, I would translate it as "the protector," using the "ichi" part to emphasize the singularity of Ichigo's position as a hero/protector.

Yes, IIRC, they specifically use this pun to make fun of his name, though it's been way too long since I've seen Bleach, and I only saw up to episode 75 before I quit watching.

There was a recent commercial that drove me crazy for using a butchered metaphor in a very deliberate and not at all ironic way (unless the ad agency hired the criminal mastermind of all internet trolls, getting them noticed by enraging people who know better); and, unfortunately, I've started seeing the same mistake in fan fiction and (most recently) in at least one book review.

Let me be clear, "The eight-hundred pound gorilla in the room." is incorrect. It's not even really a series of mixed metaphors, it's just flat out wrong. Saying it makes you sound like a jackass.

It turns your idiom into idiot... See what I did there?

The original phrases are "The elephant in the room." and- Well, shit, the other is just from that lame-ass riddle, "Where does an 800 lb. gorilla sleep/sit? Wherever he wants to."

    Har dee har har.

And it's not, "The white elephant in the room." either. :facepalm
