For the Naruto fandom, they're actually pretty decent.

Which says a lot more about the fandom than those particular fics, unfortunately.

 

Yeah, I was actually planning on having Naruto's team miss out on the Chuunin exams by being away on a mission. I want to do as little rehashing as possible because it's just as boring to write as it is to read.

 

Are you going to have an explanation for how Kiri became a Chuunin Exam member?

One of my biggest pet peeves involving the exams is the inclusion of villages that weren't originally participants.

 

Because they're one of the Big Five? Sides, the story is going to be very AU. Here's a few other deviations I'm planning on making.

• Hinata was kidnaped as a child
• Jiraiya is Team 7's sensei
• No Obito/Madara, though Akatsuki is still around

I could go on, but that would spoil the fun.

 

Being one of the Big Five counts against them. There is a reason why the only two of the Five in the exams happened to be allies.

 

So? Like I said, AU. Role with it.

 

Mass Effect fanfiction idea:
The Council, the Alliance, they all failed. The Reapers were winning, so they emulated the Protheans before them and set their greatest warrior and most powerful leader in stasis. Thousands of years in the future, Shepard wakes up. Everything he knows is lost, leaving him only one goal: Destroy the Reapers.

Basically, Shepard is thrust into a galaxy similar (since everyone still developed along the Reapers' chosen path) but not alike to his own. Maybe he is present from a civilization's early days. Maybe he is only discovered nearer the end of the cycle. Perhaps he (with his cybernetic enhancements keeping him alive) leads a people through its entire growth, all in preparation to fight the Reapers. He has to adapt to a different culture, convince the dominant species of the time that what he says is true, and unite a galaxy he knows nothing about, with technology vastly different from his own.

 

So, the more the manga reveals about Itachi the more I'm convinced that he would have been the perfect teammate for Naruto and Sakura. So the idea is this: Sasuke was born first and Itachi second, meaning (with some adjustments to canon of course) that team 7 now consists of Itachi, Naruto and Sakura.

I heven't really given this much thought, but I now want to see a Naruto-Itachi team of seven year-old archaeologists discovering the secrets of the Uzumaki and Uchiha clans.

 

This damn title won't get out of my head.

Dovahkiin: Douche with A Destiny.

And that's basically the plot of it. Somewhat along the lines of Nonjon's A Black Comedy. The Dragonborn is an asshole out for his own good/amusement and, somewhat reluctantly, the good of the rest of Skyrim. He's capricious, unpredictable, an unrepentant womanizer, a bit of a thief, not entirely trustworthy if he's been offended.. but also good at what he does. I envision him as a spellsword/spellblade. An unstoppable juggernaut wading into battle with Spell, Voice and Blade... and then causing good natured chaos in his relaxation time.

If I had the writing skill, I'd totally write it myself. As it is, I just want to put it down in the hopes that one of DLP's better authors will pick it up and run with it.

Naruto Story Idea:

I was working through some Naruto fanfics and had a thought after reading the story Inheritance by ThrashtillDeath. Naruto's seal is designed to allow the chakra from the Nine Tails into his system. Digging into Narutopedia this is because the Fourth Hokage left a gap between the two Four Elements Seal. Now my idea for the story is that the Fourth didnt leave this gap either through being rushed or intentionally, so Nartuo holds the Nine Tails, but cant access its chakra at all.

So that is the idea that I am playing with, I just though I would put it up and get some feedback and others people thoughts.

 

Well, that's not really a story idea, but it could be interesting if you can couple it with a good plot.

It would mean that Naruto doesn't learn the Kage Bunshin (at least not when he does in the manga) because he wouldn't have as many problems with chakra control and the Academy jutsu. So right there you've completely changed his fighting style, which is always nice. It would also mean that all of the big fights where he gets in over his head and goes berserk will have to be changed, either by him coming more prepared for them or suffering the consequences that the Kyuubi's chakra allowed him to avoid. Lots of potential there.

But no matter how you decide to handle it, don't make it an intentional move on the Yonaime's part. Because if he didn't want Naruto tapping into the Kyuubi's chakra, he would have just sealed the entire thing away into the Shinigami's stomach and been done with it.

 

Wait, the Yondaime could do that? I would think that if it was an option at all he would have done it rather than fucking his own kid over hardcore. But the idea is nice. Naruto has the advantage of the Uzumaki funky chakra giving him some impressive stamina already, and with a creative mind he could probably do a lot with the Academy techniques. Good luck with it!

 

He intentionally left the gap in the seal, so that Naruto could draw on the Kyuubi's chakra to fight Madara with. Otherwise, the retardedly overpowered bullshit hax boilerplate shounen villain known as Uchiha Madara would show up, stomp all over everyone, and declare himself king of the universe.

As for the story idea:

I'm pretty much with Menace on this one. The idea is interesting and could lead to some really neat bits, but it's not a story concept in and of itself. You'll have to come up with some kind of plot or something to go with it, because on its own, it's just kinda meh. Naruto would be dead by the end of stage 2 of the chuunin exams, if not earlier otherwise.

 

Huh. Could have sworn that he just did it the way he did to give Naruto an edge, but I can't actually remember why I thought he could seal it all away if he'd wanted. Ignore that, I guess.

 

I meant the part about sealing it into the shinigami guys, not the mixing chakra part.

 

Star Wars: KOTOR plot bunny.

During the attack on the Endar Spire, it is Trask Ulgo who survives and Carth Onasi who dies.
This isn't the only change, when they crash on Taris, they land directly in the Undercity near the Outcast Village.
Naturally, they eventually encounter some Sith soldiers and take their uniforms and identification.
Using the things mentioned above, they leave the Undercity and go up to the Lower City, where they learn that Vulkars have Bastila.

I don't really feel like you're changing enough to hook me here. Although I was never a fan of Carth he was at least an interesting character, whereas Trask dies too quickly to be even a little bit fleshed out. You would have to come up with a really compelling characterisation for him to make it worthwhile... at which point you might as well use an OC or any other minor Taris character.

More generally, as much as I love Kotor, it suffers from a problem common to many RPGs (though few have it as badly as Kotor) - when you take away the game, you're left with a seriously game-shaped plot. It's fine when it's a game but when you turn it into a fanfic it's kind of a dead weight dragging you down.

Of course you can compensate for it by writing really really well, but ideally someone writing great fic that followed the basic plot of Kotor would be gutsy enough to replace the entire map quest with something that doesn't scream GAME.

Not that I would cut Taris, but maybe changing the whole Bastila-Vulkars-Davik story would be interesting. In fact, when I think more about it, another thing that Kotor-as-fanfiction suffers from is too many characters. As an RPG, you want plenty of companion choice and plenty of interesting sidestories, but most fiction would need either far fewer characters in the protagonist's group or a much longer main plot to sustain them and introduce them over time.

Damn this is giving me ideas .

 

I've been flirting around with a Pokemon story that's kinda like a jumbled mess of Ash's Kanto journey. Like instead of heading to Viridian and then Pewter, Ash manages to get aboard the St. Anne just leaving Pallet and heads towards Cinnabar but it still crashes like in the anime so he's like stuck on an island Cast Away style with only a Pikachu at his side (obviously he hasn't met Brock or Misty yet) looking for a means to escaping the island. I'm stuck trying to decide whether Ash should just have his Kanto team or others from different regions - like a mix of them, but considering I haven't really watched the anime since he beat Gary in the Silver Conference I'm kinda torn. But I have what I think is a decent idea surrounding his Kanto team if it were to be the ones picked, then I start writing and I say, "This pokemon would fit nicely here!" and I'm switching out his Kanto team for some others and the cycle begins.

 

So the question is: why Ash?
