Actually. The 'third' in those was the first Mother Summer. The current one is the second, what we assume to be the last sister.

While wholly possible, is there any evidence for that?

Theres a WOJ that states that Mother Winter is the original one, and Mab has always been the queen. However sometime in the past, the original Mother Summer died/ascended/something?, and the summer queen (at that time) was presumably promoted to become the new Mother Summer (which we have seen in the books). Titania was presumably a Summer Lady when this happened, and with the Summer Queen taking the place of the now vanished Mother Summer, Titania ascended from being a lady to being a queen. Presumably she then had a daughter (Aurora) who become the new summer Lady (until Dresden killed her).

Yea, but that doesn't say anything at all about the thing Jon suggested. All it says is that Mother Summer has changed once.

Like I said, it's entirely possible that the original Mother Summer is the third of the triumvirate, but there's no evidence of such. Especially since if that was the case, there wouldn't be legends of three beings wielding mysterious power. Only two of them would have any power at a given time, yet with both the Norns and the Fates all three are regarded as capable.

I'm willing to bet that the titles are part and parcel of the Mother mantles more than anything else.

    throwing this out there-

a couple of theories that i've been mucking around with since finishing cold days; in going with the 5, 10, 15 theme that jim talked about (it's somewhere in this thread about this) the next book is going to be a denarians / the archive / the swords book. WOJ also mentioned it would be a heist and that michael may get off the bench. In conjunction with that i'm guessing lash will make an appearance- i think it's been explicitly said that the 'parasite' from the last couple of books is lash. Or at least heavily implied. Maybe the IV nutrients from demonreach and all of the fucked up outsider/dark energy floating around had some kind of effect on lash, since she was running Harry's motor functions for like 6 months. Guessing maybe that the heist is gonna have larger implications of resisting the winter mantle on Harry's and Molly's parts. I think we might see a significant drop off in the summer court presence without explanation. I'm seriously hoping that the white council shows up at all. i want to see the look on langtree's face after seeing Harry. i mean, since they've last met he took on the winter mantle, died, and destroyed an entire vampire court. i expect stern disapproval.

---------- Post automerged at 02:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:48 AM ----------

    (expansion on earlier post)

new summer knight- larissa will pity fix, having seen the life of maeve and allow him to retire. i could see michael being lured into signing up as the new summer knight in order to broker a peace and keep molly (and dresden) from being attacked by summer. but that won't come up in the next book. maybe in book 16? which, lacking any red court vampires will probably be another fae book. unless we're finally dealing with the fallout from book 12 on the rest of the world. also, where the fuck did mavra run off to? it just kinda…. poofed off around book 7. unless i'm seriously not remembering things, last we heard from it was when it blackmailed dresden and then just dropped off the map. i feel like jim wouldn't ignore something that purposefully for so long. unless mavra's just irrelevant and i'm just being an obsessive fan.

in terms of the problem stated with 'the parasite'; what if lash isn't going to literally burst Harry's head, but the aforementioned 'heist' book 15 is purportedly about has something to do with harry being influenced by a demonreach-fed lash into working with the denarians / being more sympathetic to the denarians because he has so much hardcore temptation-resistance going on with the whole winter mantle thing.

Capital letters are awesome and you should use them! :awesome

Also Langtry, not Langtree. I also hope that he and the White Council make an appearance. I think they will and was sad they weren't more in this book. Rashid said in Cold Days that he'd help Harry with WC paperwork at least.

Does Fix even want to retire? Granted he took the gig to stay with Lily, and she's gone, but it's pretty much all he knows at this point and he wouldn't have much in terms of power without it. And he might want to work on revenge.

I doubt Michael is going to end up as Summer Knight either way. I think Harry scared Mavra properly when he told her he knew how to use the Word of Kemmler against the Black Court. I've been wanting to see her again too though.

Ferrovax was as that masquerade ball. i'm pretty damn sure we still know so little of how important that night was.

also, It seems to me that cowl is gonna show up again. and i seriously want to see where he is on the whole jedi/sith index now that we have nemesis on the scale. he was another one of those characters that seems to have a lot more ahead of them in Jim's storyline

Yeah -- "that night" as you put it probably has a lot more going on that we've realized. We know that the evil!nemesis Dagger was given to Lea then. Ferrovax was there which says something in itself as I doubt he pops out for parties all that often.

Of course Cowl is gonna show up again. Was there any doubt?

Which reminds me. In Small Favor didn't Nicodemus tell Harry that they were going to have some common enemies soon? After Cold Days I remembered that and thought he might have meant Nemesis. Maybe people like the Denarians, Cowl, and whoever else can be both enemies yet still end up briefly allying with Harry if only because none of them want the Outsiders getting in.

I don't think Cowl is a good guy, but maybe he'll end up being the least dangerous ally that Harry can grab up for some reason later. Much like Mab was the source of power that Harry deemed the least dangerous in Changes.

I can see that. Cowl's monologues in (Dead Beat? I think. I'll have to check) about how he's convinced that he's not evil / not mad seem to be some hardcore foreshadowing. i'm betting Cowl will reemerge as a kind of turbo Lloyd Slate cautionary tale figure. Just maybe?

It seems to me that since Lily's gone Fix would opt for more of a strategy of getting away from fairies altogether, just judging from his personality. Never seems to be that kind of stubborn. Also him seeing how much Harry resisted the white mantle would surely get him thinking.

As for Michael becoming a knight, that was totally a crap-shoot. I just have this feeling that there's going to be some other Carpenter involved with the fairie courts- to put tension on the unbreakable magical family unit they have. Or, more likely with Jim's writing, for said magical family ness to somehow fundamentally alter the dynamics of the court so that Sarissa and Mab can still be BFFs.

I'm pretty sure Michael's only going to be stepping back to consult and aid in whatever that heist might be focused on. He's in his fifties by now and still banged up all to hell.

Also every third book is about vampires.

Denarians vs. the White Court? Or maybe the Black Court?

Applying the third book and fifth book rule, I predict that:

Denarians and Harry compete to steal something from the Jade Court.

The Jade Court? The one that eat memories? ;)

Though that gave me an interesting idea. What if they need to steal something from the Archive? Inception style.

I kind of don't remember the "taking them out" part.

I'm looking at you, Water Mage.

With the way the last book went, i can't see jim dropping this huge free will / temptation /obligation stick that he just picked up. There's been so much precursory work on it (lea, lash, et cetera) that i get the impression a big part of the next book is gonna be Harry being a Molly-wrangler. I did wonder if there was gonna be some inception influences. Maybe a return to the surreal psychic combat we saw in GS? I have to admit, Molly's brain was probably the only part of that book i really liked.

I can't help but wonder if the mindwhammy Elaine received was the Nemesis mind virus all along.
