I do see your point. Yes, there are flaws. I think that difference between us it amount of irritation those flaws induce during the lecture. For You (and, it seems, vast majority in this thread) those flaws seem to be constantly present. Hence approach “good story ruined by <...>”. As for me, I do not notice those problems while reading. Sure, when I’m looking back and analyzing, they are there, but story provides me convincing enough picture, that "list of problems" is usually ignored. Hence, I’m more “superb story, could be improved by <...>”.

Heh, you know, given that opinions in this thread are raging from something like “You f...ing enjoyed THAT?!?” to “Passable”, admitting to liking it without serious reservations feels like admitting to being naive and immature.

Ah, to hell with it. I do enjoy Gabriel’s current style and I do think “In Flight” is good just as it is - and if it is sign of any mental deviancy on my part - deviants are at very least, interesting. :)

Gb seems to do fight scenes well. Reading In Flight again I've got to agree that the fic is kind of bloated. With so many characters its kind of hard to keep track that these are characters not just names and a reaction.

It feels like it wanted to be a FSN/Sekirei fic that diverged a bit but it kept hitting the canon plot points in terms of getting the characters when I dont believe that would have served the story very well.

Alas Sunk cost fallacy strikes, I've already read so far into it might as well see how it ends.

I think GB also did a pretty short Alternate that its Shirou/Miya? Much better and more succinct too.

Bored bored bored bored HOLY SHIT HE JUST STABBED A FOOL bored bored bored.

Start to finish, this chapter is full of energy. GB hits everything he needs and doesn't dwell on the unnecessary bits. If he can keep this level up I'll be excited to see how he finishes In Flight.

This chapter really made me interested in reading some Sekerei fics. Are there any other decent ones besides A Soul of Fire, Veiled Moon (Bleach), The Conquest of Tokyo and Heart of Iron?

The begining had the same old problem of Shirou explaining too much but the rest of the chapter was good.

This chapter exemplified his talent while highlighting his biggest weakness:

GB is great at writing stories in motion.

GB doesn't write like this nearly enough.

That aside, this chapter was probably the best one in the past 10 or so. The action was good, though not quite fluid enough due to info-dump interruptions, the scenario was well constructed, and the execution was refreshingly flawless.

Since this is supposed to be the home stretch, let's hope the story keeps this kind of quality instead of falling back on old, and terrible, habits.

Shirou lecturing the girls in the beginning was a bit tedious but the rest was excellent. One thing is sure: I don't look forward the chapter where Shirou will have to explain everything again to Takami.

Didn't mind the lecturing part in this chapter. Even while speaking, since he was preparing his attack, it felt like offhand conversation he was making while concentrating on something else, and maintained the tension in the scene.

Despite his external explanations, his internal monologue was short and to the point. Previously there would be a lot of over thinking in his action scenes. There wasn't paragraphs of him extrapolating in his head exactly what magic and battle theory he was employing.

The reactions of his Sekirei didn't feel too overdone either. An odd comment here, a few shocked looks and no bullshit about "Royal Ghosts", thank god.

I actually had some mixed feelings about this chapter. I liked the action portions and the overall execution of what happened to both Higa and Kakiazaki but something felt missing. I'm not sure if this is just the fact that I'm reading this at 4 in the morning but the entire chapter just felt dry, no real conflict or tension in the action at all.

Perhaps I'm just to used to Shirou being in pitched battle with other more viable threats but this just felt like it was lacking in some of the parts that make a good action scene. I look at this and think of it as a pubstomp with none of the enthusiasm and then I look back at some of the earlier scenes like the spar between Miya and Shirou, or the fight against the Fraga and I just can't relate the two.

Legacy, I think the 'missing' section is the lack of a 'fight' that is characteristic of most conflicts.

Shirou is simply terminating a target from a distance before letting his girls do a good chunk of the heavy lifting. It's not like the fight with Karasuba or other Sekirei, where his enemy matches or outclasses him in a direct way, he's just tossing out the trash.

Yep, finally a chapter that I was interested in. Not to mention, I think the best part about an In Flight chapter is that it prompts all the other FSN authors to update their stories too :D

Is it wrong that I'm a little disturbed by how long that list is?

    Btw, thanks for the post.

Two of those three I'm surprised aren't already in the recommended threads portion, been enjoying Path of the King and Fate Revenant Sword quite a bit. From Fake Dreams just seems to rub me wrong so i'm a bit biased against it but still deserves a look by everyone.

It's not just you. I'm disappointed that fic even made it as far as the Recycling Bin. It's an example of how not to write a story. https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=20643

From Fake Dreams: I'm disappointed in how many liberties were taken and how many unbelievable leaps in logic were made, but I still read it and I still enjoy it. Guilty pleasure, I suppose?

Path of the King: Currently my favorite F/SN fic. The author has this way of making all the action come to a head in the most chaotic way every chapter. Great build up, great execution.

And I'm actually quite a few chapters behind on Fate Revenant Sword, so I've gotta play the catchup game on that.
