If your fight is entertaining to watch, you're doing it wrong.

Let's face, it: it's damn easy to kill or maim people if you really want to, and magic is only going to make it easier. Fighting is definitely not the ultimate pinnacle of magical know-how.

Interesting to watch and practical are radically different. They must not be mutually exclusive if you know how to write, but then again, even fisticuffs fighting can be interestingly written, without any fancy spells and all that.

It is the difference between Flitwick and Moody. A duelling champion who can make a show and result in a duel, and the guy who put half of the death eaters in Azkaban.

NO ONE uses AK in duels, but they sure as hell use it in a fight. Even Aurors did.

So, according to you, Evan Rosier dropped dead of his own accord did he?

While arkkitehti exaggerated I do agree that there is vast gap between magical knowledge/skill and actually fighting well. Both Voldemort and Dumbledore clearly focused on the former even if they do the latter pretty well, someone who completely ignores the former and goes just to the latter could potentially deal with either even with training only a fraction of the time.

Off course there is the inherent danger in that since people who did spent time looking for knowledge and are still fighters will inevitably know how to do things you won't counter. Basically it is either end it very early or lose.

Time skips to include technology into the stories. And using guns to kill off DE's. If it were that easy, people would start buying guns to protect themselves from DE's.

I would like to read the opposite. I want a HP story set in 1891 instead of 1991.
Basically, everyone relevant to the series was born 100 years earlier.

That way, we won't have muggle guns, no tv and purebloods watching Star Wars (for fucks sake this happens so much).
Also, there won't be arrogant muggleborns who talk about the moon landing.

I'd love to see, just once, something like this...

With teleportation, the ability to conjure air, and house elves; I really don't think a moon colony is outside the reach of Wizardkind.

I did see a story recently where Hermione was bitching about how Wizards are backwards and have no idea that Muggles have been to the Moon, and to shut her up Harry asks Neville when Wizards went to the Moon. Neville matter-of-factly replies that it was sometime in the 1700s and wonders why its so exciting.

You'd have to go back a lot farther than 1891 to not have guns.

According to the HP wiki (which has this sourced from Tale of the Bard) the Killing Curse was created for duels in the first place.
Then again, it is the HP wiki and I haven't read TotB. :sherlock:

Very true, but in 1891 guns were obviously less advanced than their modern versions.

Diary TMR and Harry friendship. TMR is insane in every form and sense. His 16 year old self isn't going to be super cunning or regretting what he became in the future.

Is it canon that DE's didn't even find parts of Rosier after Moody was done with him? Certainly makes Moody look bad-ass.

Afraid not; all we know is that he died, and took a chunk of Moody's nose with him. Meh, Rowling doesn't seem the type to favor a ruthless hero. Unless it's Hermione, of course.
