I'd like to see a one shot, or a series of one shots, about Dumbledore's Next Great Adventure. After dying at Snape's hand, he wakes to find himself in a strange land--one the locals call Tamriel, or Thedas, or Tyria. In Tamriel he might find himself grappling mentally with Daedric beings, in Thedas he might take up the cause of the mages in his own unique manner, in Tyria he might join the fight against the Dragons with awe inspiring magic on a colossal scale.

I'm probably going to have a crack at this myself in the future if I can justify taking more time away from Magician or my Anthology submission, but I was curious as to what thoughts others might have in regards to this idea. What worlds might be entertaining to watch Dumbledore striding through?

Here's something that could either be awesome or extremely terrible:

    AU (obviously).
Harry is actually Voldemort with amnesia. Sounds silly, I know, but hear me out! When the Dark Lord hit Harry with the Killing Curse, he actually did kill the boy, however the curse still rebounded and destroyed Voldemort's body. Because all this was happening in an instant, a piece of his soul was transferred to Harry's still-warm-but-dead body. The process also erased all memories inside the soul piece.

So the Dark Lord goes away as in canon, but his soul piece inside Harry's body grows up...believing to be Harry! So this is basically a Horcrux that believes himself to be the Boy-Who-Lived.

Years pass and he is raised by the Dursleys, however he does not end up exactly like canon Harry, there are personality differences, mainly due to Tom's true nature.

That provides us with an explanation for potential OOC behavior (which may or may not be an improvement). And it provides us with an excuse to remove the Harry-Has-To-Die and Power-of-Love from DH.

Have at it dude. I might have to do one of them just to get it out of my system, but we could make a round robin type deal out of it. I don't know nearly enough about the subtleties of Tamriel lore to give that one a crack, but I'm digging seeing Albus in Tyria.

It wouldn't quite fit in with the tone of the oneshots themselves (probably) but I think it'd be an amusing way of tying the stories together by having Albus die at the end of each of them, only to be propelled on yet another Next Great Adventure. Have this image of him killing a Dragon only to choke on a candy at the feast held in his honour afterwards.

@Wise Tomato. I am woefully unfamiliar with any of the worlds you mentioned (Tamriel, Tyria or Thedas), I looked them up. I thought they were more like countries in the same world lol.

Anyway the mage stuff in Thedas seems to be the most interesting, plus the other two places seem far too extensive, with very complex lore and stuff. Still most of the knowledge I have concerning the world/institutions of Thedas (The Imperium, the Chantry, Circle of Magi, Templar guards, darkspawn, mages, etc) is fresh (I just read the wiki for Dragon Age: Asunder) and therefore rudimentary. At the same time, it's pretty interesting. If I do ever read the book (and not a summary of each chapter) then i might give it a shot.

I do want to see how you tackle it though. And just curious, is most of your knowledge gleaned from the books or playing the games?

I first played Guild Wars back in '06, so I have fairly extensive knowledge of things there. I've only ever played Skyrim though, and not even to completion. Dragon Age I've clocked a few times.

Tamriel is by far the most lore intensive of the examples there, and any fic set in that world would benefit immensely from in depth knowledge of it.

My main interest in seeing Dumbledore in Thedas lays in the fact that you know he isn't going to be all that pleased with the way people with magical talent are treated in that world. So you have him coming from being a vocal supporter of Muggleborns in his own world, to being a champion of those with magical talent in the next. Conflict would be inevitable, and Albus would seek to further his newfound cause in his own unique manner.

The beginnings of an idea: Dumbledore appears, and is seen as a rogue mage. Cue a Templar Guard hunt

That definitely seems like a logical starting point, but you can't forget that the mages are just as capable of fault (even moreso since, really, the templary has good reason to do what they do: mages are stupid powerful in the Dragon Age universe). Don't fall into the trap of turning the Chantry into bad guys.

Regarding playing the game, if you like RPGs, I'd do it. It would also be the easiest way to get a lot of lore: the codex (click every book you find in game to get a lot of codex pages that you would, otherwise, not get, protip. and play it on the computer, makes it easier to find tiny objects like books) is a treasure trove of info. I haven't read any of the Dragon Age books, so i Can't comment on those.

OA is very lore intensive with tons of background info for a lot of things. The big issue would be balance. I think ALbus would be the most powerful being in the story by quite a bit. Excepting maybe the Archdemon or the Morrigan hax baby.

I was debating on a Sirius abducts Harry after the Aunt Marge Balloon incident. It seems to be interesting atleast in the planning part so far. I also don't think I've ever seen it done before.

I don't think Dumbledore would take the side of the mages because of any sort of oppression (not likely that he would observe such a thing on a scale to compel him to take up arms in his first few weeks in Thedas) but because he objects to their treatment (imprisonment for an accident of birth) purely on moral grounds.

I had to write the first few paragraphs for my own attempt at this idea. It's going to be the one set in Tyria, but it could really be any world, at this point. Likely throw it up in WbA once there's more.

    X

It was a seagull's cry that woke him, and the sound of waves breaking gently on a shore that kept him awake. He lay in a bed of sand, the grains warm against his back. For a brief moment, he considered taking the opportunity to doze off once more, because it really would be a crime not to take advantage of such peaceful surrounds. It was at that point that his conscious mind caught up with himself, and he sat up abruptly.

“Oof,” Albus Dumbledore grimaced as his body protested his movements. He felt as if he had been pressed into a very small space and then wrung out before being put up to dry.

    Severus, please.”

The Headmaster frowned to himself. To an outsider, it was a look that spoke of disappointment, one a teacher might wear upon reading a particularly poor piece of homework. The frown became a look of acceptance in short order, however. His moves were spent, his last gambit out on the board to unfold as it would, and he would likely never know if his school would be safe from Tom.

Still, one did not reach the tender age of 149 by worrying over things one could no longer affect. With a groan, Albus rose, taking stock of his surroundings, a gentle breeze flowing around his unbound beard and tugging at the simple grey robes he wore. He stood on a sand dune overlooking a pristine beach, the sea a brilliant sparkling blue and the sky even bluer. Far off the shore, eyes far keener than he had any right to at his age picked up a pod of whales breaking the surface and expelling great gusts of air, before disappearing again.

The wizard rubbed his hands together with just a touch of childish glee. It was very possible that he was about to embark upon his next great adventure. He offered up a quick thought of thanks to that most flighty of temptresses and took his first step in this new world—only to stumble and nearly fall, muscles trembling.

Adventure may just be over the next horizon, but first, a walking stick.

I read an interesting plot bunny within Shadow Rebirth's profile and would love to see how it would be played out.

Plot bunny?! That's probably the single most common setup for crossovers and alternate dimension fics in the HP fandom. There are dozens of stories you can read on ffnet where you can see how that plays out. Some of them are even good. One or two might even be finished.

Read Worm by wildbow and was wondering what would happen to HP world if there were monsters like Leviathan/Behemoth/Simurgh causing similar mass destruction. Would there be full Muggle/Wizard cooperation, humanity vs. monster for survival? Would the force of MAGIC create correspondingly powerful wizards/witches to counter them?

Well, I don't know, but the realistic answer to big monsters is a single Avada Kedavra.
Or focused fire. Or evacuating the area and dropping a big, big bomb.

A single small man with superpowers against one big monster is a manga (and movie, some books ...) theme thanks to it's coolness, thats all.
If you want to have a chosen protector vs evil monster setup some sort of mind control the chosen one is immune to would make more sense . Like vampires.
Or maybe evil mages vs someone immune to magic.

Physical combat has all those nasty rules attached to it. For example, no matter how strong an ant is, it's bite still coudnt hurt me. It's simply to small.
If it's a matter of weapons or spells anybody could learn there's no reason to fight 1v1, projectile weapons tend to take the tension away too.

Of course, illogic has never stopped a cool Idea.

How about an excuse to write overly long fight scenes?

A few years pre-epilogue, Harry is bored by his job. Being head auror is more paperwork and bureaucracy than actual field work, and times are so peaceful that there aren't any exiting missions.

Then on his birthday Ron takes him to watch a small dueling tournament. Invigorated by what he sees, Harry makes the brash decision to quit his job and try to become a professional dueler.

    - You'd have family members angry at him for what is essentially a dumb move brought on by a mid-life crisis.
    - He has the usual sports movie arc of starting out terrible and in over his head, dueling in bars and things like that, before he rises to the top and enters the world dueling tournament (or whatever you want to call it).
    - Maybe he gets a retired Flitwick to become his trainer?
    - I picture large chunks of this fic just being fight scenes in the vein of how tournaments play out in shonen series, I.E. each round Harry would face some opponent with a specific gimmick (the ice guy, the shaman, the LT. Surge brute force guy, the person who only uses transfiguration, etc.)

Really you could build the fic any way you want, just have an excuse to write a dueling tournament.

Why would he be bad at it? Harry has fought more battles than almost anyone and has amazing reflexes.

There'd be a difference between a formal duel where you plan out your strategy to face one opponent vs life or death situations Harry's faced. He's at a disadvantage against a bunch of people whose entire life for years has been training for that specific format.

An Auror wouldn't be a great professional duelist from the jump just like a Marine wouldn't be a great MMA fighter.
