    Does Snoopy write fanfiction?

On an unrelated note, Harry getting rid of/not needing his glasses. Why do so many writers feel the need to do that? What do they have against corrective lenses?

Authors who tell me half the plot in their Authors notes. They'll shoot out a string of sentences like: ' the pairings will be gen, so it'll be ginny/harry and hermione/ron, but then later on hermione will fall in love with neville after he rescues her from voldie.'

Congratulations fuck-wit, any and all suspense when 'voldie' kidnaps Hermione is now gone, because you've just told me what's going to happen, that and you have terrible taste in pairings.

I cant stand his glasses. Anytime his get knocked off in the middle of a fight and he can't see shit and stumbles around like a retarded kid, it makes me want to punch babies.

There has to be a middle ground between Velma!Harry and Harry without one of honestly not that many defining physical features. Surely that's not too hard of a balancing act to manage?

Maybe just have harry have Hyperopia (farsightedness) so that he needs glasses to read, but can see fine at distances. This way if his glasses fall off or are damaged in a fight he is not up a shit creek. It would be a fairly minor change to his background.

Or maybe he just doesn't let his glasses fall off. Something like that is only a problem in a story if the author wants it to be. There's no need to find elaborate ways around it.

You may be missing the underlying symbolism.

Harry is myopic- he can see and handle what's right in front of him, but can't get a clear understanding of the big picture.

Albus is hyperopic; his vision of the landscape and wide scale is clear, but he often misses the details close at hand.

Mad-eye is damaged, but now sees much more than anyone else; more than he needs to, which has him reacting to things that others feel are invisible enemies. Constant Vigilance!

Except there are situations in action adventure stories where your glasses would and should be blown off. Like wtih an explosion. If Harry's rolling around in the dirt fighting a dragon I'd expect him to lose his glasses during the scuffle.

Obviously if you made it so his glasses can't ever come off or break due to magic, then that's fine as well. I have to take off my glasses when I play basketball, much less when I fly at over 100 mph on a broomstick.

But Dear Lord does it irritate me when they fall off and now he's suddenly fucking impaired.

You do realize that there is a very good reason why she wanted her hero to have glasses, yeah? And by removing them, you complete screw that up.

It's not deep symbolism. It's right in the face fucking obvious. :p

Okay. A pet-peeve of mine. Fix-alls. I'll be the first to admit that some elements of HP canon disappoint me and are damn stupid.

But fics that treat the entirety of canon as stupid get on my nerves. If you're going to make up a whole new world, you're no longer writing Harry Potter fanfiction.

Usually hate the XXXX!XXX method of tagging characters, but Velma!Harry was pretty damn funny, IMO.

If the author decides just to make him no longer needing glasses for some stupid reason, it's usually a sign of immaturity or an author insert to some degree.

If it's part of a larger narrative and makes sense in the story, I don't have a problem with it. In one of my fics, Harry's training to go back to England and war against Voldemort. In the process his glasses get destroyed. Instead of getting new ones, His trainers find permanent contacts that bind with his eyes. It's meant to be one of the more obvious signals of a very changed man going back to England to war against Voldemort. It also, as was said before, signals his ability to see a much broader picture.

Moleskin = A type of cotton fabric. Hagrid has a moleskin overcoat.

Mokeskin = Skin of a magical lizard called a moke. The skin retains the shrinking ability the creature had while alive. The pouch Hagrid gave to Harry is made out of it.

And, thus, we have to endure heaps of fan fic where Harry or some other character has a 'moleskin pouch,' because the authors are either ignorant, or do whatever their spellchecker tells them to do.
