Title: Tom Riddle and the Boy Who Lied
Summary: Tom Riddle is a very misunderstood man. Not like as in, "he was abused as a child and all he wants is a bit of validation, that's why he kills" kind of misunderstood. No, people take everything he says the wrong way. But that's what happens when your childhood accidental magic just happens to take the form of the Unforgivable curses.

So, Tom tries to come back to life, but is not at all trying to kill Harry. Harry, on the other hand, really likes messing with Riddle...

Yeah, this is a really silly idea.

An idea for a mystery/horror story, preferably written in a lovecraftian style.

Post war. Harry, as a temporary Auror, was part of a task force that brings arrested but untried death eaters to Azkaban. When there, the dementors suddenly went berserk, knocking him out and consuming the souls of the death eaters (thankfully none of the Aurors were taken, though).

Harry resigned his commission during the investigation (and the Ministry dealing with the political fallout), and decided to settle down with Ginny while pursuing a different career. He became a (insert occupation) and had two children with her, but what happened on that day stayed with Harry; he wanted to find out why he had such an acute reaction to the Dementors.

    Then one day, he disappeared.

A few years later, Ron and Hermione found what was probably once Harry Potter - as well as a journal. It was Harry's.

Investigating the demonic creatures' history, he found that they paralleled that of the descendents of Ignotus Peverell. Ignotus was cursed to a non-life, un-death existence for all eternity for his trick on Death as the first Dementor, and every descendent he had would transform into a dementor as he (or she) grew older. By the time of the revelation, however, Harry had resigned to his fate. Half mad from the pain of his transformation, he wished only the release from his mortal shell and to join his ancestors in their eternal lament.

During the events in the Chamber of Secrets, Cho Chang (or a different Ravenclaw student) stumbles upon the Room of Requirement.

She accidentally finds Ravenclaw's Diadem and wears it. Voldemort's Horcrux takes over her body. After figuring out what is going on with the Basilisk, Ravenmort intervenes and steals the Diary for himself. Then, of course, he targets Harry.

I've always thought an easy plot bunny was Dumbledore dying during Harry's childhood of natural causes. The story can just change so fundamentally and in very different ways considering how everything relied upon him.

Not too personally keen on this idea, but the concept that a point of divergence being some character being warped by an external force is very appealing.

Especially if said character is rarely used, such as Katie Bell.

When her silly older sister is busy flashing smiles and swishing skirts at the smelly English pigs, Gabrielle decides it is her time for an adventure, and decides to explore Hogwarts. Eventually, she finds a portrait of a monster in a pink tutu, and mimics the dancing of the funny, grey-skinned thing for a few minutes. When they finish (curtseying, of course, as she is a Proper French Witch with Proper French Manners!), Gabi turns to leave, and sees a doorway that wasn't there before.
    Adventure!
Two hours later, she emerges, a beautiful crown on her head.
Voldemort is furious. He's now female. Prepubescent. Not only a half-blood, but a half-breed.
    And perhaps worst of all...
    French.

Why he can now taunt Harry until he gives up. If he doesn't give up he can taunt them again. :fire

He doesn't have to hang with silly English types either. ;)

Hufflepuff frienship, Gryffendor Courage, Slytherin Ambition, Ravenclaw Knowledge. These are not division that 11 year olds are split into by a dusty old hat. These are demarkations, levels, places the school encourages students to go through. Hogwarts wants her students to be friendly, to be brave, to have ambition, and to learn.
And so all first years go into hufflepuff. They learn of the virtues of frienship, they see older students helping younger, friends standing together against stronger opponents, and the comfort of knowing they will have friends.
But that is not enough for some students. And so they go "under the hat" wherein they wear Godric Gryffindor's magical hat, and take a test of courage. Whether it be swimming the black lake without a wand in the dead of winter, leaping from the astronomy tower to catch themselves on a leviosa'd platform, or some other feat of bravery. If the hat has deemed them worthy, they are brought into the select Gryffindor House. Friendship still stands, but now students search for ways to make themselves better, to perform even stronger feats, to push themselves as hard as they can.
And some strive further still. For they do not limit themselves to self-improvement, they wish to be seen as great. They cultivate reputations within Gryffindor, and they are approached in the middle of the night. "Under the Robe" they are offered, to join the ranks of Slytherin. They must not just have an ambition, but the strength to use it. It is considered the cruelest of initiations, for they must use a secret, or must in some way use the power they have gained. If Slytherin's robe judges their ambition sufficient, they are brought down to dungeons, to join Slytherin.
And resting in the center of the slytherin common room is the hardest test of all. It is a simple book, with an inkstand and quill resting next to it. Inscribed in it are the secrets that Ravenclaws have found. For when a Slytherin finds out a secret of Hogwarts, an elusive secret that has been lost to time, they can inscribe it in the book, thus ending its secrecy. And in so writing in Ravenclaw's Book, they are no longer slytherins, for their ambition for themselves has been eclipsed, by the ambition for knowledge.

I see this working in that maybe 70% of the school is in Hufflepuff, 15% in Gryffindor, 10 in Slytherin, and 5 in Ravenclaw. To some, it becomes a competition to see who can get out of Hufflepuff first. To others, a chance to see if they can get into the elite Ravenclaw house, with its library of forbidden tomes and ghosts that tell of ancient secrets long forgotten.
But for many, it is a struggle. They want to stay with their friends, and want to stay in hufflepuff. To them, how far will they go to follow their friends? And what happens when their best friend comes to them, wearing Slytherin's robe?

Prompt: Harry Potter was The Chosen One but he wasn't the Son of God. What happens to the Wizrding World and the Muggles left behind in the Apocalyptic Rapture that took place on December 21, 2012.

Answer: I don't know but it seemed interesting to me as a "what if-" involving the past years "end of the world" claims and such. Any thoughts?

Harry Potter/Castlevania crossover - Vampires/Cultists/Voldemort sympathizers attempt to revive Dracula using Hogwarts' ancient magic as a battery for their ritual using three ancient books. Ritual works and of course Dracula is revived, and he's converting Hogwarts into Castlevania. Story could go in a few directions, take place over the course of a year as Hogwarts is slowly taken over, with noticeable effects as the two castles 'bleed' into each other, or maybe students are transferred from one to the other. Story could easily take place a year after Deathly Hallows since in Castlevania canon Dracula was finally defeated and his castle sealed in an eclipse during 1999, a year after the Battle of Hogwarts, which can also be a good reason for why the story takes place. The battle weakened Hogwarts defenses against such intrusions and provided whoever is trying to revive Dracula with the perfect location for him, another Dark Lord and master of evil, to be revived.

As for why Harry and party could be there, it's Ginny and Luna's last year at the school and with the war resolving a year prior and Harry not having a chance to go to school because of the Horcux hunting, it's not unbelievable that McGonagall would allow Harry, Ron, and Hermione to come back and complete their final year, and I could see the three of them wanting a chance to relax and have one final year together before being forced back into the world, even though they strictly don't need to go back. Or they could just help with reconstruction.

Death is also a character in Castlevania. He's Dracula's number 2, so hey that could be something. Alucard, Dracula's son, could use the Resurrection stone to help Dracula reconcile with his dead wife, setting up for Dracula's in canon reincarnation and redemption. Harry can use the cloak to fight and evade Death. Someone can do something with the Wand.

Genre could be standard action/adventure, or survival horror. Castlevania's filled with tons of different mythological monsters and magical creatures.

After leaving Hogwarts, Tom Riddle founds two groups. Walpurgis, a political organization that gives him a way to publicly speak his ideals and influence the laws and regulations passed by wizarding government, and the Death Eaters, a terrorist group that acts as his personal army. Riddle's more affluent and personable followers join Walpurgis, while his more zealous and sadistic join the Death Eaters.

Both groups start small in size and scope, but over the decades their numbers and influence swell. Walpurgis becomes a multi-national political organization, with chapters opening across all the major European nations, led by the International Chairman Thomas Riddle. The Death Eaters, and their mysterious leader Voldemort, become feared from the Black to the North Sea.

Suddenly, in 1979, Thomas Riddle dies. An unknown disease ravages his body, and one of the most influential men in Europe passes away. His will states his chosen successor of Walpurgis, and Lucius Malfoy is voted in as the new International Chairman with unanimous support.

Shortly afterwards, the Dark Lord Voldemort appears in public for the first time. A hideous creature, his unveiling marks the beginning of a two year reign of terror. Not a night passes without a dozen murders or kidnappings. The Dark Mark flies over Europe, virtually uncontested.

It suddenly ends on October 31, 1981 when Voldemort raids the house of James and Lilly Potter. No one is certain what happened that night, but after killing the two elder Potters, Voldemort attempted to kill their infant son Harry, and failed. The reign of terror was over.

In the coming years, internationally coordinated Auror investigations and Hit Wizard operations result in the near complete dismantling of the Death Eaters, who had splintered apart following the death of their leader. Hundreds are executed for their crimes, and those not killed are sent to the prison of Azkaban, built off the coast of Scotland specifically to house and contain them. A deal is struck between the International Confederation of Wizards and the Dementors, and this new jail has its own, special guards.

What few Death Eaters escape captivity or execution go to ground. Though few remain, they are the most wile, and the most loyal. Even without their leader, the group commits acts of terror across Europe, though certainly with less frequency. In recent years, however, their area of operations has slimmed down to the Balkans, and no one can guess as to why.

Despite numerous attempts, there has yet to be a proven connection between Walpurgis and the Death Eaters. Though both groups have similar goals, no formal investigation has been able to connect the political organization with the terrorist group. Despite this, many individuals believe that the two are connected, such as Albus Dumbledore, who retires as the Headmaster of Hogwarts to pursue a political career shortly after Voldemort's fall. Named Minister of Magic in 1984, Dumbledore is the most vocal opponent of Lucius Malfoy and Walpurgis, and has been able to block or stall much of the legislation they have attempted to pass within the United Kingdom.

    -----

This is something that's been rolling around in my head for a while. Not too certain what kind of story this would serve as background info to, yet, but I want to hear some feedback regarding this bit first.

*Lily Potter - you should be ashamed of yourself.

As for the actual concept, it is no doubt the foundation for a kick ass story and a great setting for our hero to rise up and face his destiny.

Even with Dumbledore as Minister of Magic, Walpurgis could set the political stage for Voldemort's return, making Europe's defeat swift and bloody. How Harry would fair and what he would do in response would be up to you.

I think this image would fit the mood of the fic rather well:

Would set the stage for a rather interesting rebellion style of story, bit like DH done 'right'.

Meh. The alpha version of this story had Lily ending up dead, but not James. Fastforward 20 years, and HP has joined up with the Death Eaters. He gets kidnapped by Hit Wizards, tortured/interogated, and forcefully coerced into becoming a double agent before being released. Tonks was going to be his "handler", and the plot was going to focus on finding that connection between Walpurgis and the Death Eaters, and bringing it to light. Lots of fun spy shit with the added bonus of Tonks frustrating Harry in more than one way.

The only reason I haven't started writing this one is that I can't figure out how to make HP decide that joining the same group that murdered his Mom would be a good idea. Teen-angst-rebellion BS only goes so far.

Well, really it just depends on who is whispering in his ear. Kids are impressionable as fuck. It's not beyond reason that someone could twist his mind towards the Pure-blood propaganda and convince him that his mother's death was necessary, or a least plant the notion in his head, then bring in sorting him into Slytherin or Ravenclaw, where he's further exposed to ideals different from his father's, and add the teen-angst-rebellion BS.

In the middle of third year, Hermione has an accident with the time turner and is erased from existence/killed by a paradox/whatever. Naturally, her absence has quite an impact on Harry's life. Plus, without the time turner, Sirius may not be saved at all.
