Bioshock Infinite is standalone, but there are a few references here and there. They're basically fanservice, not actually important to understanding the story. I don't remember there being many jump scares, but it can be atmospheric when it wants to be.

Do you need to have played previous games? Not necessarily. Is it better if you have? Arguably yes. I'd strongly suggest playing the first one at least.

There's not really many horror elements in Infinite, that I remember anyway. The Plastered Splicers in the first Bioshock might catch you off-guard though, if you're not careful.

Time to remind everyone as we must every year. If there's a game you want, wait till it goes on sale through either Community Choice, Flash Sale, or Daily Deal. If it doesn't go on one of those, then buy it on the last day of the sale. Nobody will feel any sympathy if you buy something for $30 when it was half off, and it goes on sale for 90% off the next day.

That does happen, too, it's not an exaggeration. Last year Sleeping Dogs went on sale for $5 because of a typo. It was literally >90% off.

Also check other websites for sales too, steam can be beat. For instance Amazon is giving away three indie games, including Ticket to Ride, with the puchase of select indie games. So you can pick up Hotline: Miami for $2.50 from steam or get it from amazon from $2.50 and get three other free games. GMG also had Bioshock Infinite for $24 with the price match and a coupon, but the rumor is that the 20% off coupon isn't working with Bioshock anymore.

Is it worth picking up Skyrim Legendary Edition for $30? It's only 40% off but given it's popularity I'm not sure if they'll discount it any further.

Picked up Saints Row: The Third - Full Package, for shits and giggles. Got it for $7.49 when everything together came to $94 before markdowns.

About to get XCOM:EO, the control scheme has to be better than it was on 360.

I'm going to recommend picking up Chivalry to those of you who haven't yet done so. Tons of fun, and with the ridiculous discount there's no reason not to own this.

Yay. Steam sale time. I haven't actually got a lot on my wishlist, but if something piques my interest I'll purchase.

For example, I've felt like playing a new racing game for the last month or two, so the 75% off Grid ($3.74) seemed like a good buy. Got good reviews upon release. I would've bought Grid 2, but it's $37.50 at the moment in Aus.

I would be all over X-COM if it wasn't $17.50 in Aus instead of the $9.99. I'll wait another six months for that, I think.

What I do hate about this time of year though is that I'm a semi-follower of the video game deals reddit and I can barely stomach it during the Steam sales. Every second post seems to be "the sales aren't good enough", or infinite variations of the same.

Not gonna lie. I complain a fair amount in my own life. But about Far Cry 3 not being 99% off? Yeah, I have more of a life than that.

Is it bad that I get more excited about the Summer Sale for the Steam Santa Christmas thing than I do for getting games for myself? Christmas, bitches, it's coming... and you will be too.

You'll find plenty of both in that game.

Maybe I'll be grabbing SR4 at Summer Sale 2014. :)

Because my brain took a leave of absence, and I missed when GMG had Tomb Raider stupid-cheap this spring, I'm hoping Steam has it as a daily deal.

I know Amazon has it on sale right now, and with the coupon code it comes out around 15 bucks, but greed and my abysmally small games budget dictate that I sit on my thumb and hope Steam has it even cheaper. :facepalm

(Anyone else get a chuckle that FarCry3: Blood Dragon takes place in the future... in 2007? Hehe.)

I have totally got stuff for Secret Santa next time we do it. Last time or two I got something without giving, that's about to change. ^^

I'd say yes, given it comes with all of the DLC included. Still would be wise to wait until the last day of the sale to see if it does go cheaper though.
